Fyora! I went for a more stylized, elongated approach. By which I mean, long Fyora is looong.

Let me emphasize that it has been FOREVER since I last drew myself. In part because I hated my art, in larger part because I hated my face a lot. As of May 22, 2016, I...still sort of resent mmy face, but am content enough to draw it. The way I see it, I've drawn vastly uglier people, places, and things than my face, so what do I have to be afraid of? To accompany my glorious visage, behold two other colored pencil portraits! And with that, apart from maybe a handful of sketches, my summer art rage is about to go on a hiatus thanks to wrist surgery. Bah.

I think your self portrait actually looks very cute I love the soft expression you have along with the red and blue colors. Oh, good luck with the surgery, I hope you have a good recovery. What do you need it for?

My ganglion cyst is gone today! And um, just one more pic I forgot to share yesterday. And now I bid this thread adieu. At least for a few weeks.

All right, Forum! I've compiled my favorite drawings done in 2016. If any of you are willing and able, I would love some critique. ^_^ I'm putting multiple pics in this post because I think that can make trends more obvious. Some trends I've noticed: limited, static poses; avoidance of feet and some face angles; lack of complex backgrounds like landscapes and architecture; shaky linework, especially in sketches.

Hope you don't mind me commenting on this, buuuut I SUPER ADORE YOUR ART and I've probably fangirled about it to a fellow NTWFer or two. I feel kind of weird giving critique since I personally admire your art so much and I want to strive to do physical media coloring like you, but ah, artists must help each other out, right? Q.Q So if this is helpful, then I DID MAH JERB. So first off, I don't have much to say about your physical media coloring because you do it loads better than I can and I am, like, extraordinarily fond of it. It's so vibrant, and I am 110% on board with your usage of different, striking hues for the shading. I'm always in awe of people who can incorporate a whole palette of colors into their shadows, because it looks so durn pretty, and I think it resembles real life better that way, too. So YEAH. Keep using ALL THE COLOR WHEEL. I actually don't see too much of a problem with the lineart. I suppose it's personal preference, but I enjoy both crisp, clean lines and "sketchier" ones as well. It just depends on whether or not it meshes with the rest of the drawing, and I think in your case, your coloring and shading (in the digital art, at least) is very soft, so the rougher lines work with it! But, if you are truly concerned about "shaky line work," I recommend using SAI and upping the stabilizer level (upper right hand corner on the GUI), as that's pretty much what every digital artist uses to make clean lines. I feel like it's sort of cheating, honestly, because I've had to draw for years in Photoshop CS6 before I got my lines even remotely smooth, but even I've converted to the dark side now. XD On the subject of backgrounds, I think even your simple ones are very beautiful in terms of color usage and I especially like the forest scenery in the first picture. I also note that the perspective of the backgrounds could use a little refining, and I've probably only noticed it myself because I struggle with perspective, too... LOL! I get extremely frustrated whenever I have to use perspective lines to figure out things like furniture or foreshortening... gah. But I've found that what helps me the most is using a separate layer for perspective grids and turning the opacity of it way down before your initial landscape sketch: But I have a feeling you probably already know about these. I don't think your poses are all static. The one with Roberta at least looks pretty action-y. The Kyrii does seem a bit like she's just standing there with a sword out, but Roberta looks intense and well into the moment. The facial expression on her probably helps a lot. XD I think what the Kyrii needs to look more "loose" is to just use more curves on her upper torso, ie. more curvature in the back, arm not so stuck to her side, etc. I find that I like my poses a lot better when I see less straight lines, at least. XD I also have a problem with drawing stiff poses, and it's more obvious in my guy drawings, because I can't guy anatomy to save my life. D: (Working on it, though!) One last thing I wanted to point out are the lines in your backgrounds. I see that your poles and such have lots of curves to them, and each of them tend to bend their own way. I think it gives the overall digital painting a more "impressionist" feel and it's kind of endearing in its own way, but if you're worried about making them all uniform like a proper architecture design or something, I recommend just using the line/pen tool in your graphic program when you're sketching. It's kind of cheating, but it saves so much time and eventually makes your backgrounds look sharp (if that's what you're going for). Anyway, that's all I can pick out for now. Q.Q Still feel a bit awkward posting all this to an artist I look up to and is like, the color pencil queen, but hey, you don't have to be a writer to critique a book, right? XD Hope it's helpful in some way, and if you're confused or disagree, ignore me and continue on your merry way! I feel like art is very subjective, and my art tastes have changed drastically from when I was younger, so a lot of the things that younger me would have liked, I don't really prefer now. My tastes have moved from Eastern/Japanese art to more Western/American art, as I think Western artists know how to utilize their colors to their full potential (case in point: Dutch artists from the 1700s). Still love both, though!

Thanks for the feedback, Zoey! Helpful stuff. I'm hoping to try out new media later this summer--maybe watercolors? Shrug.
