Here be the general thread for discussing issues related to taxes.
The topic is pretty broad and complicated, but to start off: what do you think of the tax system in your country? How does it differ from other countries'? Do you think your system is fair, or no?

Well I'm in Australia and I assume you are from the US of A. But I can say this much... I fail at tax returns. I googled etax, looking for the program I used to do my tax last year (which was free). I clicked on the first google result, thinking it was the same program and only after I finish it do I realise there is a fee for lodging my tax return through their website. Frustrating!!

Awright, I think I'll go specific. Some of these may be geared more towards the US; I'm not sure what the situation is in other countries regarding taxes.
What kind of tax is preferable? Progressive, regressive, flat? Is the FairTax a good idea? How much should the rich be taxed? Are the rich taxed too much, too little, or just enough?

Well, if there is one thing I know about taxes, is that Brazil is one of the most expensive countries in the world. ._. NOT cool, dude...not fun either.
While a my little pony styling pikie pie (What? I like pinkie pie! XD) costs around 17 dollars, it was supposed to cost 27 reais here, but thanks to those ridiculous taxes it costs 60 REAIS! O__e I mean, srlsy? I blame corruption, tons of corruption.

I think that progressive tax is preferable. I'm sure there are quite a few people who disagree with me. XD I just grabbed one of my paystubs to look at the Taxes withheld. I've got a good portion going to federal withholding for this week, which I don't mind terribly because it goes to cover an awful lot of services. The amount for for FICA/Medicare kinda kills me because it will probably go insolvent before I ever get to use it. >.< State is kinda huge, too. You're a little greedy, PA. Lol, went back and removed a specific number because it would be really easy to work out my annual pay from that. I hate filing with a freaking passion, though. I hate it more than I hate the withholding, by far.
