Recently, I've been playing with some very simple animation because I want to make a Homestuck-themed video to a song I really like. Sadly, not having access to much in the way of video/animation software, I wasn't able to do many of the things I wanted, making it pretty much a glorified slideshow in Windows Movie Maker. It was still looking good, but not like I wanted.
I was like, okay, I can live with this. But it did set me drooling over Flash, or just a decent video editor really, all over again. XD Not that I could ever afford either, right?
Meanwhile my laptop was giving me fits because the battery had died and the last of the charge was gone, meaning that any time the power cord was unplugged it would die instantly. This would be manageable, except that the power cord on that machine has always been extremely loose. The slightest movement can dislodge it. Not as much of a problem when it had battery life. Now - dog walks by, cord falls out, bam, I lose all my work. It was driving me CRAZY.
So my parents agreed yes, I need a new computer, so we went shopping for a new one. Last week I brought home a Samsung with an Intel i6 processor, an NVIDIA graphics card, 6 GB of RAM and 750 GB of hard drive space. It is by far the best computer I've ever owned. I'm not much of a PC gamer, but I did want something that could handle games and video better than my old one - and it does! Minecraft is so much less laggy, Portal runs so smoothly, and I've started playing other games and stuff that would never have worked well on my old computer.
It also happens to be a 64-bit computer. So, some of my old software and stuff didn't work. SAI does (thank heavens!!) but my ancient version of Photoshop - Photoshop 7.0! - refused to install. Actually, I don't know if it was the 64-bit thing for sure, but it definitely was refusing to install. So I started looking at my options for an upgrade. They didn't look pretty - my so-called student "discount" gives me Adobe Creative Suite for the low, low price of $300.
But! I had the idea of checking my cousin's college to see what their discount was. AND IT WAS FREE. I was like, whoa.
And then I was like "cousin can you pleasepleasepleaseplease download this for me?"
And she was like "Sure!"
SO WE DID AND IT WAS AWESOME THE END.
BUT YEAH I HAVE FLASH NOW. As well as the latest Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, and AfterEffects. I've wanted this stuff for YEARS! And the timing is just so cool. I am SO PUMPED. I can't wait to learn all about everything!!
