Sign Ups Closed
However, if you didn't get to sign up in time, you can still participate in the RP aspect of this game. See, more than thirteen people live in Netwaffle; but only those thirteen have much pull on matters-- nepotism and what have you--so you don't want to bother with voting on executions and silly things like that. So, you can still RP, but you will not be able to vote, nor can you be killed, and you can't win (obviously). I also ask that, to make sure the 'cast' isn't unfairly taxed and can make their own decisions, please do refrain from trying to influence the execution votes of the players. You can bemoan the mafia murder of Jimmy all you want, but no need to go around pointing fingers and calling for hangings, eh? That's the job of the voting people!
It's such a tragedy, lately-- the idyllic countryside town of Netwaffle suddenly overrun by the worst sort of people: the mafia. Suddenly Netwaffle's biggest problems aren't cow tipping teenagers and too much hugging. Oh no, poor citizen, it is far worse than that. Violent crime is happening left and right, ranging from assault and robbery to the worst of the worst.
Murder.
The townspeople are getting antsy. They can no longer stomach their peaceful little village turning into a place of savage crime. The town detective is well-meaning, but he is outnumbered. It's time to turn to vigilante justice.
That's where you come in, citizen! It's your turn to try and rid Netwaffle of these savages. But don't get too comfortable. The mafia isn't going to take these extreme measures well. And you might be next on their chopping block.
... okay!
I think most people have played the party game 'Mafia'. If not, the rules are simple. Your peaceful little town is being overrun by mafiosos, and you're sick of it, so the time has come to drive the mafia members out through extreme measures: kill off the mafia! Unfortunately, you don't quite know who the mafia members are. So obviously the best course of action is killing people you think might be mafia members... and if it turns out they're innocent, well, oops. Meanwhile, the mafia is angry with the effort to push them out. So angry, in fact, that they've started killing a citizen each night. Which, of course, just leads to more desire to get rid of the mafia once and for all.
The game will have thirteen players in a number of roles.
4 members will be in the mafia.
7 people will be ordinary townspeople.
1 townsperson will be the town detective.
1 townsperson will be a witness.
The game will be mostly played through an RP thread, in which you get to craft your character and have lots of fun interacting with other people in your town. Of course, your true role won't be known; everyone will be passing themselves off as normal townspeople, even the mafia members, because well... isn't discretion part of the mafia? The detective doesn't want to be killed off, so he's doing his sleuth work in private, and as such, also will try and pass himself off as a regular townsperson. The witness... well, that should be self-explanatory. The witness unfortunately saw the mafia members commit one of their crimes, and so he knows their identities. But he's terrified that even if he tells the townspeople, they won't believe him, so he's staying silent. Even though he may indirectly try and steer the rest of the townspeople towards the mafiosos' identities.
Each round will last a few days. The game's length will vary depending on how fast the mafiosos are wiped out, but I'm hoping it won't be more than a month or so.
At the beginning of the round, the mafia will decide on a victim to kill; the person they designate as their leader will PM me that name. I will announce the kill.
Then comes the fun RPing! You get to talk to your fellow townspeople-- mafia and all-- and gasp about the tragedy and decide who to punish for this heinous murder. Eye for an eye, right? After a set period of time, each townsperson will PM me the name of a person they think is in the mafia and committed the murder, and who they think should be executed for the horrible crime. The person with the most votes after a set period of time (so that a round doesn't last forever if some players are out of town...) is hanged. I will announce their name, as well as their true affiliation-- mafia, townsperson, witness, or detective. If you hanged a mafia member, congrats! If you hanged an innocent townsperson, well, all is fair in love and war, eh?
Meanwhile, the special character of the detective gets to ask me once per round if a certain person is in the mafia. I will tell them yes or no. Like the witness, they cannot tell others of their discovery, but they can try and sway the rest of the people in the right direction. If the mafia members kill the detective, all the more tragic. If the townspeople execute the detective, um, oopsie daisy.
Once you're dead, you're out in the sense that if you're a mafia member, you have no say in who is killed anymore; if you're a townsperson, you can't vote in the executions; if you're the detective, you no longer get to guess the mafiosos' identities. However, the dead are still welcome to be all ghostly and continue RP'ing if they like, lamenting their tragic demise and all that. Of course, if you were the witness or detective, no spilling the beans on true mafia identities. Because that's not fun, right? And if you were mafia... um, even in death, it ain't cool to betray your brethren, dear.
The game ends in one of two scenarios:
1. When townspeople kill off the mafia;
or
2. When the mafia and executions kill off the innocent townspeople.
Sound fun? If so, sign up here! Once I get the ten sign ups, I will assign roles and get the RP under way. <3 If you have any questions, just ask. ^_^
