let me first say - oh maaaan, i'm so pumped about paradoxspace! it is simply the coolest there is :B so, uh, i hope this is cool to do and all (since i haven't read through all 200 some odd pages of this great thread - yet - and don't know if it's been done before/would be weird to do again) but, in the spirit of the week of 4/13 i was wondering about what all you lovely folk think of homestuck! that is, would anyone like to engage in some sharing of favourite characters/moments/memories from the comic and/or fandom? i've been feeling the nostalgia mighty heavily and feel like asking, haha. so if anyone feels inclined to answer some of these: who are your favourite characters? what are some memorable moments? best story elements? any fun/not so fun fandom experiences? do you have high hopes for the future, either with the ending or the game or paradoxspace or any/all of them? and, most importantly - what is your opinion on betty crocker? > (if no one minds, i'll get the ball rolling with some of my own thoughts!) so my favourite character is bro, which i sometimes feel is a bit of a cop out because he isn't really characterized very much in canon. i think i like him as much as i do because in fanon (at least the stuff i enjoy), he's depicted as a lot more silly and ridiculous than some people make him out to be (which gives me a wonderful excuse to act just that way when i'm cosplaying him!) honestly silly, nerdy, not-cool-at-all striders are really important to me and i feel like people neglect that perspective a lot, i dunno. but i've been seeing it make a comeback! so that's exciting. i also really love all the kids, especially john, jake, jade and roxy, who are super, super great. my favourite troll is, i think, kanaya (or maybe terezi). i've cosplayed both of them, so that might have something to do with it my favourite moments tend to be ones that involve learning about dreamers and classpects and other game mechanics, which also tie into my favourite story element(s)! granted, we never really learn anything in a terribly linear fashion, but i don't mind so much. for a recent example, learning about jake's hope powers was really neat, and while it exposed a lot about him and other characters, it also sparked tons of theories about the ending which is one of the best things about the fandom - speculation and evidence for it is so, so cool! i'm really looking forward to the game, for sure. i bet it's going to be pretty expansive, given the budget (and i should hope so, too, because i backed one of the higher tiers and while i'm very content with the kickstarter swag it gained me, i still hope the game comes out top-notch too. even if it means waiting another year, haha) and, of course, the crucial answer: i love betty crocker brand baking and i am a slave to the batterwitch (though aren't we all?) (aaaanyways, i don't want to say too much more now, because i've already written a lot. but maybe if anyone else feels like jumping in and discussing things i'll ramble on a bit more!)

I'm sure it's always good to do! I definitely haven't read through all of the pages on this thread... I can't remember if I've even posted here before. >_> I'm rereading homestuck, actually, partly so I can try and understand what exactly is happening before it ends (if it's ever possible to understand it) but partly because it's just so much fun. I've actually started keeping a word file with all my favorite quotes. Unfortunately, I only started doing that midway through Act 5 Part 2. So a lot of great stuff is missing. As far as favorite characters go, it's so so hard to say. In the top tier are Terezi, Vriska, Rose, Jade, and Dave... I think I'm forgetting someone though. And because I can't gush about this enough: I think Vriska's development is one of the coolest character arcs I've ever seen in any medium. When I first got to her character when I was reading, I was going "Holy cow, how does everyone like her so much, she's terrifying and mean. And then as time went on I fell in love. @_@ I don't know how Hussie does it.

oh man ditto to basically everything both of you said. and because it's been a while since this thread had a good old fashioned favourite character smackdown, my list goes something like John, Dave, and then Karkat and Rose on about the same tier, which. always feels a little bit like i'm putting karkat and rose lower than i should, since every time they get the spotlight in canon i find myself gushing about how they're my favourite, but i think i do it for dave and especially john just a tiny bit more as for my favourite moments, apart from the generic "i like the funny parts" answer i could throw out, i think i can group my favourite parts as the bits where hussie casually throws backstory and character details at us that throw us for a loop. one of the best things about homestuck is the openness of the story and the characters, how we're just kind of given a framework and the rest is left up to our imaginations to colour in (which incidentally led to a fandom that has done the impossible and actually stayed varied and unpredictable enough to hold my attention for more than a year), but i think the fandom tends to lock in particular fanons as may-as-well-be-truenesses. it is impossibly cool when we just learn little things about the characters that even the fandom never saw coming, because it means that our impressions of all the characters are fluid and changeable, just like our impressions of real people. like in the past it was moments like these that sort of stopped the john fandom in its tracks and go "oh... i... uh, i guess he isn't just always nice and gentle and passive all the time. wow, ok, never mind, john is actually kind of a jerk". or how more recently learning that dave wanted to be a paleontologist has shattered some of the unanimous fanon about dave becoming a dj or a famous rapper or something when he grows up. good characters. there are a lot of reasons i like homestuck but the sheer scale of possibility within each character is easily the main one

ahhh i followed through on my promise to start rereading it. guys i really, really forgot how much i loved this comic. i'm just starting act 3 now, and it's great to see what all was totally foreshadowed from the beginning (how did hussie even conceptualize this much from the start? a mystery) and how things have changed so much over the years. i guess i'd say that one of my favorite things is the sense of humor? HS has a /completely/ different comedy style than i was ever used to before i started reading. like you've kind of gotta be open to weird, obscure references-- although it IS pretty awesome when you're able to catch a subtle joke-- but then it's just this great meld of anything from highbrow wordplay to creative swearing insult comedy to the whimsy of can town. speaking of jokes, i only just realized why serenity is called serenity. i've been reading for three years. i'm so ashamed. but another thing i really like, and i guess this goes for a lot of books/fandoms, is how HS gives the reader a lot of opportunities to imagine themselves individualized within that world. people love categorizing themselves, and HS is just RIPE with stuff like that: would you be derse or prospit? what would your god tier be? if you were a troll, what blood color? and so on and so forth. i've spent more time than i care to admit thinking about how cool it would be to be part of the game and where i'd fit in and where all my friends would be. i think it gives the story like a life even beyond itself when you think about all that!! ok alright though onto the characters & moments & such SOOO it's totally hard to pick a favorite character, because my favorites have changed so much over the years! i instantly fell in love with dave when i started reading, but now i've really grown a soft spot for jade. i feel like we're pretty similar in a lot of respects personality-wise. i've always love love loved roxy too! i feel like we could totally hang out oh my god
as for the trolls, aradia has a super huge place in my heart for tons of reasons. she's my patron troll, she was my first cosplay from HS and EVER (and it was adorable btw), and all the transformations she had to go through pretty much matches up with different phases i've gone through in my life. not that i've ever been dead, but i'm taking some metaphorical liberties here. i always found her friendship with sollux to be really sweet, they're probably one of my favorite pairs in the whole series
moment-wise, i really loved all the moments where i was just blown away by the beauty of the comic. everything is done on such a large scale almost all the time, and when you step back and think "wow, this is really all being done with something as simple as MS Paint", it's kind of mindboggling! lots of the earlier flashes come to mind but yeah idk. all my friends say they're out of homestuck but i don't really think anyone actually gets out of it. at least not with a bunch of fond memories :')

Robyn, I'm so glad someone else is rereading it and noticing the foreshadowing! The foreshadowing so early on completely blew me away. Like in one of Dave's earliest pages, there's a narration line along the lines of "It's like, what are you made of, time?" and right in Jade's first page about her interests, there's "You have a profound zeal for marvelous and fantastical FAUNA OF AN ANTHROPOMORPHOLOGICAL PERSUASION" (which gets brought up a bit more in the next pages). And totally agree on the opportunities to imagine oneself within the world. It's like how we all have given a ton of thought to what our Hogwarts house would be. I haven't spent quite as much time thinking about where I'd what I'd want in Homestuck, but I love how much variety it allows.

I remember some things pretty well, so I don't tend to re-read or re-watch things often. Plus when it's long and I have other random things to do, I really don't redo things XD

Wow, how badly abandoned was this thread?
Anyway, I'm reviving this cos I wanna say something about this little teaser trailer.
Interesting, so does this take place before or as parallel timeline of Homestuck's canon?
Also, a whole bunch of time looping and retcon shenanigans that canonically confirms Game Over as a doomed timeline.
