As I have plenty of story ideas that I haven't started working on yet, I thought I could put NaNo to good use and see if I can't complete a story (or two) by the end of the month. It's not necessarily the 50000 word that's the goal (as much as I want to, that's not what I'm going after), but rather getting those ideas down on paper (well, in this case, the computer). Hopefully, the pressure of writing something within the month will motivate me to get going, even if the plot feels rushed or messy (after all, I can always clean the story up later). I want to make my first NaNo memorable.

Ruby Moon (Ruby Champagne)- Also known as Colonel Dexterity, she's the oldest sibling within the family. She also acts as the leader from time to time, depending on the circumstances. Even though she's a vampire, she has a slight resistance to silver due to her past training and deals primarily in fire magic
Jade Moon (Jade Star)- The twin sister of Ruby, making her the second oldest sibling. Works as a detective in Oceania, but will help out her twin if the need arises. Deals primarily in light magic
Pearl Moon- The youngest sister and second youngest sibling. Along with the running of her grandparent's company, Innotech Corporation, she's the de facto head of the family when Ruby's not around. Deals primarily in ice magic
Basil Moon -The youngest brother and the youngest sibling within the family. Often helps out Pearl with her work. Deals primarily in water magic
Forest Moon-The middle child. Has a somewhat strained relationship with the rest of his family due to the fact that he's often out of touch with them. Deals primarily in earth magic
River Park-Frost- One of Ruby's good friends and colleagues with the Paranormal Investigators. Considered the 'brains' of the group. Her vampire alter-ego is Lady Winter.
Amber Knight- One of Ruby's good friends and colleagues with the Paranormal Investigators. Considered the 'brawn' of the group. Shares a close friendship with River. Her vampire alter-ego is Lady Garnet
When other vampires are found turned into dust for no apparent reason, the rest of the Moon family is summoned by Forest to help solve the case. Eventually, Amber and River are involved after the family unravels a plot to enhance vampires with silver.
The plot was loosely inspired by the 'Turn Back the Pendulum' arc in Bleach along with a Facebook game, but so far, my plot seems a little bit forced. Hopefully, this will change as I continue writing the story

“Okay, Forest, what’s the scoop that you wanted to tell us? Pearl asked him.
“Well, recently, there have been reports of vampires here in London being turned into dust. Here’s the thing though. No traces of silver have been found in any of the victims so far. I’m going to need the family here to help me out,” he told us. I suspected that he had something else to say, but was hiding it.
“You’re hiding something from us, aren’t you, Forest? There’s more to this case other than what you told us. It’s not a simple one, that’s for sure; otherwise you wouldn’t call the entire family together for a meeting.” Jade nodded in agreement. Forest sighed.
“You got me. You are right, Ruby, this isn’t as simple as it looks."

“There you go, boss. Looks like everything seems to be normal so far, but I’ll take a deeper look just to be on the safe side,” he told us.
“Can you tell us how this vampire died?” Basil inquired.
“Hmm, looks like the PA is picking up minute traces of silver inside, so that could be the cause, seeing as silver causes burns to us vampires. He probably died once it reached his heart, but I can’t confirm that for certain.” I quickly wrote down what he told us.
I surprised myself by hitting the 3332 word mark (well, I will admit now, the chapter was shorter, but I wrote down an excerpt for another chapter, thus bringing the word count up), even it if was unintentional. So far, I'm impressed with the pace that I'm doing as it looks like I might be able to complete a series way before the end of November, but we'll see how things work out.

Uh-oh, I just had to have a bad time to get writer's block as Chapter 3 is currently stalled. Any suggestions?

Switch to another character's viewpoint in a different scene?

Switch to another character's viewpoint in a different scene? Yeah, that will work, although I did come up with something while I was in one of my classes, even if it was a bit forced.

Finally got the third chapter done, after three days of trying to hammer it out. I'll probably post the excerpt tomorrow. EDIT: And here's the excerpt “Jade, is something wrong? You’re as pale as a ghost,” Pearl asked. I slowly turned around to face her, wondering what to say.
“Umm, I’m not sure how to say this, but I think I may have witnessed the crime in progress. I couldn’t sleep after getting that nightmare, so I wandered inside the home. After witnessing that, I wasn’t sure if my mind was playing tricks on me or not,” I told her.

Started a B-story that's relevant to the overall plot with this chapter. I feel it is one of my better chapters. I opened the folder again and took out the sheet that was given to us earlier. There was one thing that stood out and that was the fact that the blood contained silver. Immediately, I looked at River with confusion on my face. Before she could answer, a smash startled us. I whirled around and saw that it was the person that I had just interviewed, only this time, he was a werewolf and judging by the fact that he seemed to be angry for no apparent reason, he was in his berserk mode, causing me to swear. River was way ahead of me as she began to run.

“Colonel Dexterity, Colonel Southpaw, on behalf of Lady Winter and myself, Lady Garnet, I do apologize for the short notice that I gave you,” I told them using their respective codenames. “We understand considering the urgency and nature of your case, Lady Garnet. Oh, screw the formalities, we’ll save that for when we introduce you to Forest,” Jade replied, causing me to smile. “Anyways, we’re glad to have both of you here.”
Didn't expect that I would merge the two stories together this soon, but what the heck, it'll do. My normal series is usually 10 chapters, so hitting the symbolic halfway mark for this series is a real boon, but I'm not sure if it will exceed ten chapters yet. I'll probably try to stretch out the chapters throughout the remaining days left in November, seeing as we're nearly a third through the month and I'm already halfway through this.

“Let me guess, we got another victim, right?” Jade shook her head. “While you were talking to your colleague, we received a threatening letter, telling us that one of us will be the next target. It didn’t say who that target will be, which makes our job a lot harder. Apparently, these guys know who we are. To make matters worse, the letter stated that they’re coming tomorrow night, which doesn’t give us a lot of time to prepare.” I closed my eyes and sighed.

Been a while since I last updated due to school projects taking its toll, but here it is, latest excerpt. “According to the report that Allan sent me, it turns out that those remains found were actually the people already missing, specifically those who worked under powerful or influential vampires, such as the Brightstones. As he told us earlier in the week, he found puncture wounds and incision wounds, but the cause of death was indeed a heart attack due to silver poisoning. As well, all of them died at nearly the same time,” At that point, Amber stopped her as she pulled out the map again. Pearl understood Amber’s reasoning and began pointing them out to her. Unlike the kidnappings, the ‘supposed’ attacks were more random as they were more scattered throughout the city. I was so lost in thought, trying to figure out why, that I did not hear my cell phone go off or Amber picking it until she tapped my shoulder, slightly startling me.

Copied from the NaNo General Chat Thread:
Well, I failed my self imposed challenge of completing a series by the end of the month, although, I will admit, 7 of a possible 10 chapters completed (I think that's what the amount will be, judging by past series that I've written, but I'm not sure yet), along with a 8th one in progress, is still pretty good, considering how busy this month was (final projects and exams slowly creeping up closer to the end of the month, along with a lot of Neo stuff happening as well). This is a good experience as well as I now don't have to rely on whenever inspiration strikes me to write as much, causing me to write bits and pieces, thus slowing down the pace as I don't know when it will strike again.
