I just had an idea for a NaNo, and now I really want to do it... so I'm giving in and signing up, with the proviso that *college work comes first*. :3
I even came up with a rough image for the front cover:
The title will either be "Black Rabbit Society" or "Reality Hackers", I haven't decided yet. More details to come!
Level One – Life-Force Creation
This level is extremely high in frequency. It is difficult to reach, and the radiation of it can be harmful to the unprepared. The truly coarse will be purified completely at this level, often resulting in their ceasing to exist, or being restructured so radically that they cannot be said to be the same individual entity. Few or no living humans have reached this level. It is the level of the Creation Causer.
Work falling into this category includes exerting control in order to bring entirely new life forms into the physical realm, often without the prerequisites for this, and the adjustment of genetic codes of existing life forms (only applicable when the purpose of this is to enhance the life, and not to harm it), the creation/benevolent modification of souls (human, animal and plant) or spirits (human).
Slips at this level often produce cataclysmic changes in those around them, depending on the nature of the affected persons.
Levels Two (direct connection with higher-than-human entities), Three (summoning of higher-than-human entities) and Four (To see or be influenced by higher-than-human entities)
These levels are associated with connection to sentient individuals who live within the invisible segments of the fabric of the universe. Level two is direct communication with and influence of higher entities – for example, ‘knowing the language of the universe’ or the ‘language of god’. Summoning can be used for a variety of purposes including purification and indirect generation of life or inanimate substances.
At level three, summoning is performed by a human but the higher-than-human entity initiates and is in control. A commensal flow is established between the human and the entity, wherein the will of the human plays a minor part in the outcome of events. If the entity is more powerful and of a mind to do so, it may possess the mind of the human until his or her energies are used up, at which point the death of the human occurs. Entities can sometimes be attracted by creating the right environment and doing the right kind of work.
Level four is experienced by those which incidentally come into contact with higher-than-human entities. There may be an exchange of energy or ideas, which occurs subconsciously and by osmosis.
Level five (Neutral Ground)
The fifth level is a perfect environment for learning, healing and regeneration, and general work with the fabric of the universe which can be performed by a human alone. Healing activity rubs off on the giver, with varying, mostly positive results. Occasionally, a corruption of an attempt at healing, usually by amateurs or due to a lack of understanding, results in spiritual harm (level six or seven). On this level, the main risks are corruption (defection to level six or seven), energy overspend and general idiocy.
Also known as ‘human level’ as it is the highest potential a human can reach without the presence of higher entities.

What if you could live any moment again – and again, and again?
Control of time is an exhausting activity which involves folding the matter of the universe inside-out. It is therefore best suited to small things – however, multim in parvo. By replaying the truth of a particular moment in a difference place, it is possible to ‘relocate’ fire, water and other materials as convenient. A car engine could be run without fuel as long as an operator could replay the moment when the necessary small explosions were taking place within the engine. It could also be possible to momentarily exist in the mind of another by replaying the minute occurrences in another’s brain within the brain of the recipient. Reversing the entire world, or even the universe, is a never-attempted feat which would require unimaginable power. In order to wield this power, the handler of time must accept the loss of each regained moment against his or her own lifespan. Radiation from exceptionally large or prolonged reversals can result in cancer and schizophrenia, amongst other things. As far as is known, the future is impossible/nearly impossible to access.

What if it was possible to restructure an object or substance into something different? Also known as ‘alchemy’ in ancient times, this ability is widely known amongst the people of the world – and equally widely known to be a myth. However, those of a sufficient developmental level are capable of entering the ‘small worlds’ and changing the make-up of some materials.
ALL HEALERS, STUDENTS AND RESEARCHERS IN THE BLACK RABBIT SOCIETY ARE ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE CONSEQUENCES OF THEIR ACTIONS.

Without the influence of a mitigating force, it will always inflict upon the user that which he or she is trying to inflict on his or her target.
Example case:
What if it was possible to trade one life for another?
A child dying from cancer can be spared in return for a serial killer on death row, another human in the last stages of life, or that girl you didn’t like in year five. Anyone at all can be a part of the trade. This is accomplished by repurposing the death-marker or death-energy surrounding one individual to affect another.
Technically, it is two skills in one: lifting or cleansing on the one hand; infliction and maintenance on the other. The infliction half of the process is level seven and is mitigated by the cleansing half, which is level three (rapid, considerable healing; change of future path, both requiring higher-than-human power), allowing the survival of the user. The only caveats are that the person being saved must be in an unequivocally life-compromising situation (cancer, grievous injury, sentenced to death, etc.) and the user must be willing to put his or her own life on the line by being ‘on frequency’ with harmful energies and entities. Finally, usage of this slip can and will result in mental decline, phantom pains, shortened lifespan and susceptibility to illness, inability to experience spiritual development and profound emotional instability, all of which is difficult or impossible to reverse. Very strong individuals can survive for a long time after using this slip, or even after using it multiple times, but the average person-on-the-street would struggle with the weight of such a burden.
It is also possible to cause changes in the physical make-up of individuals by shifting energies between individuals in a similar process to that seen above. Lastly, there are some willing to risk their own destruction in order to manifest energies towards a target. These volatile individuals are to be avoided at all costs.

Wounds caused by the increasing concentration of immensely powerful human beings, often blind to their own power. We see the need for change.
Those who can see must act. Because we are witness to the slow destruction of the fabric of reality, we will combat the problem at its source: we will change humanity itself. We will cut away the darkness and restore the light.
Our first purpose is to reverse the damage which led to the destruction of our species' higher senses. This involves neutralizing level six-and-seven energies directly, a job to which very few are suited and which carries great risk.
Secondly, we must facilitate the growth of humanity peacefully by promoting compassion, love, hard work, learning, development and above all, happiness - and by eschewing greed, callousness, cruelty, idleness, ignorance and boredom wherever we find it.
Specific duties include research, outreach, healing, the neutralization of negative energies, opening and closing 'slips' in the fabric of reality, the use of those slips to alter perceptions and situations, the compassionate purification of the irreversibly tainted and the induction of sense restoration in the righteous.
Our third purpose is to give without counting the cost. In all cases, we the Black Rabbits strive never to harm the innocent or to promote their destruction. Our members stand for the prevention of hatred and the defense of the defenseless - children, animals, the elderly, the weak, the poor and the oppressed, or those souls who were given no choice. The nature of our work allows us to resolve conflict without violence, and we do so whenever we can.
All of this must be done quietly, without the knowledge of outsiders, in order that our work is not tainted by selfish ideals or challenged by potential enemies (willful or inadvertent).

Jason is 13 years old, tall for his age, and a loner. He is a seeker of the truth, spending hours crouched over his aging PC searching for things no one else in his class have heard of. Things that most of them would rather not think about.
His one friend is Ashley Cotton, a fair-haired boy of 12. They have been friends since nursery school. Ashley is like the little brother Jason never had, and they go everywhere together. One night, whilst the two are on their way home from a birthday party, Ashley is taken away. The event is a blur in Jason's mind and he barely recalls enough to answer the questions asked by police. Months go by, and there is no sign of his best friend.
Deep inside Jason knows the truth, though he refuses to accept it: Ashley is dead. His best and only friend is gone, forever, and whatever claimed his life is out there still.
It is this knowledge, festering unacknowledged at the back of Jason's mind, that drives his search for a new truth, leading him into the midst of an ancient yet clandestine spiritual conflict the likes of which most humans only dream of.
Omnion
A lapsed Black Rabbit, Omnion is reborn as Kieran Abbott, aged 21, an unassuming young salesman working for a middle-of-the-road furniture company. When night comes and Kieran sleeps, the fragment of Omnion which was successfully placed into Kieran awakes.
Omnion in his current state knows little of his own history. Only when he acts alongside other pieces of his fragmented soul can he achieve cohesion. However, he knows that to return to his former group is to face certain destruction: he has lived with terrible presences and allowed them to feed upon his soul and spirit.
Having joined the Black Rabbit Society during an impressionable youth, he quickly became disillusioned with the results of their work, coming to believe that their pursuit of "peace and love" was actually at odds with the purpose of humanity. He now seeks to invoke chaos, knowing that extreme hardship will recreate the souls of humanity and galvanise them to save themselves, as opposed to being "shepherded" along the path of spiritual "freedom" by toothless, mindless weaklings.
