I just realized that if I do NaNo next year, I'll no longer be able to use the "T" alliteration in my titles. It's very sad.
Oh well.
Honestly, I don't really know what I want to write about this year, and it's probably important to come up with something that's going to keep me motivated, since it's my first year of university and I'll have a lot on my mind.
With this in mind, I'd appreciate any ideas people may have. ^^;
What I was kind of thinking for this year would be an adventure-type story with human versions of Aidne and Trick, two of the characters from my Neopets stories. I haven't written them in a LONG time, though, and I'm having a bit of trouble coming up with a decent plot, other characters, and a good world for it to play out in. But I'll summarize the general idea.
Aidne Lilith is fresh out of the academy, having graduated (without honours), but still ahead of the game in that she graduated at all, despite all expectations to the contrary. While most people would go on to gain employment after this, Aidne returns to her backwater hometown of Shanty to visit her lawman father and seamstress mother, pet the family dog, and to drink the tavern dry before setting off into the great and terrible world (she actually has every intention of running off to sea and becoming a pirate.)
While in the process of drinking the tavern dry, she meets a random fedora-wearing man who introduces himself simply as "Jake" and offers her both the opportunity of a lifetime and a free refill of ale. It's the ale that sells her. Jake tells her about a trial held every ten years in which specifically-chosen individuals compete for membership in the Guild of Explorers, a select group of experts that deal with the unknown: cartographers, scholars, curse-breakers, trackers, lockpicks, thieves and people from every other field meet and share information to solve the mysteries of the world, gain prestige, and, most importantly, make a ton of money. Aidne is invited to participate, the Guild having been observing their potential recruits for the last year. They had been suitable impressed by Aidne's study of languages, rune interpretation skills, attitude, and complete disregard for the rules and had sent Jake out to inform her of the meeting place for the entrance test.
The test is to discover the location of a "treasure" that has been hidden by the highest-ranked members of the Guild, and it seems simple enough: whoever gets there within the allotted time wins and will be granted admission. But the test is more dangerous than it seems, with contestants picking off their competition one-by-one and interference from third parties outside of the competition. But really, in this race it's the Guild itself the contestants should be the most wary of....
Hey, I actually got an idea while writing all that crap. XD PLOT TWIST.
But yeah, I expect this story to be at least a little ridiculous. Like most of my stories. So the seriousness in the summary is a lie. Just like the cake.
Mmmmm... cake.
