The temptation to start right now is overwhelming. I was outlining the first chapter or two and planning out how/when I want to reveal facts about certain characters and I kept thinking to myself "You know, I could open MS Word right now and just start writing." It's unbelievably tempting to just throw NaNo out the window and write the novel. But, Im not really prepared to start it, as the background work isn't nearly done. Maybe I should just stop thinking about the plot. Or I could cheat.... If you're despate to start, you could always write scenes from the book that you're certain you'd never want to actually include in the real thing. Stuff like very long childhood memories with no/extremely little relevance, random extra scenes where characters are suddenly transported for no given reason to a land where blue giraffes waltz dance all day, that kind of thing :3 So you get to write, but not cheat at the same time

And I finally got around to donating to the Office of Letters and Light. ^_^ It's something I wanted to do last year, but last year I didn't have a random prepaid credit card thingy from relatives on the other side of the country. So. Ha. A practical use of birthday money if there ever was one.

Other idea: write stuff that would go into the finished novel, and then come November write the 50,000 words of the novel that you haven't written yet. ...Yes, that's a horrible bending of the rules and terribly evil. >> But! It might be okay with yourself.

It might be okay with yourself. That's what I'm tempted to do. I found an old, awesome-looking journal that I bought years ago but never used. It just screams this year's novel, and I almost, almost picked up a pen. I might have to do it. Trying to resist though. Going out of town starting tomorrow, so that should provide a much-needed distraction. Apart from the eight hour flights. I can't sleep in planes :K

That should distract you real good.

=D What I do is write small short stories - maybe fleshing out the world, maybe fleshing out character backstories. That sort of thing. It means you get to see a glimpse of how your characters will be, and helps you familiarise yourself with stuff in general. Really handy. And not cheating, which is a plus.
... So very psyched for thiiiis! ^____^

So very psyched for thiiiis! ^____^ Yes, this! I started doing this for my story this year, and I definitely recommend it. Little backstories with no real plot, little dialogues with no real purpose. In fact, the less purpose the better, because that way I won't be tempted to use any of this in my actual novel (not that the actual novel will necessarily have a purpose, but. Still). ...So, now that you've posted on, like, everyone else's NaNo threads, are you going to make one for yourself? =D ...That was rude, wasn't it? I didn't mean for it to be. Trilly and I have been angsting about the lack of Rikkuthread for a few days now, so, um, yes.

*grins sheepishly at the long line of NaNo-threads who I was the last poster on* ... I. I couldn't help it. >.>; Everything sounded so awesome, and everything seemed to deserve having something said about it, and I may've. Gotten carried away. A bit.
Of course! Threads are the thread for the NaNo-needle! =D ... That sounds odd! And I actually don't have a strong idea for this yet. xD But writing it up might help? And there's a title I like. So I'll do that in a minute.

I must admit, seeing Rikku raid the board was interesting though. xD And here I was thinking that Rikku's username over at the NaNo site would be Ukkir D: xD

Well! =D Anything for an interesting life, right? Riiight?
... Hey, if you'd been away from a computer during the week when NaNo-hype first starts you'd be overreacting too. >.>; Possibly maybe kind of a bit.

Developing more of a, 'how could I have ever thought of this awful idea?' flavour? >.<

/is a little late for this conversation but: I've written a couple of conversations between my characters that I don't intend to put in the actual novel. It's pretty useful, as it does help me get a better grip on their personalities and how they would interact with each other. :3

Möp... My muse has already a couple of dialogues for the Nano finished in my head, but I still lack an idea for the Atlantis-story which is due by the end of the month. And with lacking an idea I don't mean my muse suddenly suggesting she wants a red and white striped lighthouse! EDIT: Finally my muse came up with a decent idea (which even incorporates her more weird thoughts on the topic), so now I can force her as training for November

The more I think about it, the more I realize that I will probably be working on more than one script for my November Script Frenzy. My goal is not to write 100 pages of one script, but 100 pages of script total during the month of November. (Technically, I believe that this is within the rules of the basic Script Frenzy.)
Quantity comes in November, quality comes later. =)
