Ever since robots were created, man has wondered; how friggin' awesome would it be if they were gigantic?! America and Japan have answered that, with series such as Mazinger Z, Voltron, Super Sentai/Power Rangers, Giant Robo, Getter Robo, GaoGaiGar, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, Gunbuster, Neon Genesis Evangelion (yes, it counts, despite a lack of hot-blood up until Rebuild), Megas XLR, and Transformers. This thread is all about mecha! From small mecha like Lagann to, well, galaxy-sized robots like SuperTengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, and from piloted mobile suits like Gundam to sentient alien machines like Transformers! That's what we discuss here!

I haven't watched many mecha anime--just Evangelion (including 1.0 and 2.0), Gunbuster, and Gundam 00. I'm planning on watching Diebuster, though, so I guess I'll join the club and chat. =D
...The Diebuster OP is incredibly catchy. @_@

The only mecha anime I've watched is Code Geass, and I wouldn't really count that as a mecha anime... But. Still. Giant Friggin' Robots are pretty darn cool.

Heck yeah, sign me up. Like a lot if people, I cut my teeth on Evangelion. I was also built a few Gundam models. (In my teenage girl years, so guess which series? Yup, that's right, Gundam Wing). XD) I don't think Daiguard gets enough love. It's about office workers piloting a companies giant robot, with red tape and PR issues and stuff. Good fun, especially the theme. Oh, oh, and I LOVE Rahxephon.

So, the big news in mecha recently are the new Super Robot Wars anime, the upcoming Rebuild of Evangelion movie, and Star Driver from Japan, while Sym-Bionic Titana nd Transformers Prime hail from America!
I'm really hyped for Transformers Prime. So much so, I laughed maniacally when I saw the Hub was a sponsor of Neopets!

2.0 was released in theaters over in Japan a while ago and 2.22, which has a few extra scenes and cleans up some of the animation, has been out on DVD for about a couple months. So, Japan's waiting for 3.0 and almost every country except for Germany is waiting for 2.22.

SO, Transformers Prime premiered a few months ago, and the series has regularly started this friday. It's goooooooooooood. AGREED. I love this show already. It seems really odd to say this (or maybe not so odd, after Sari) but I honestly think the series' biggest strength is the human characters and their relationships with the Autobots. Well played, Hasbro. Oh, and Starscream. He's pretty. Also: WHEELJACK NEXT WEEK EEEEEEEEEEEEEEE *MAKING LOTS OF HIGH PITCHED NOISES* HE'S LIKE MY FAVORITE AUTOBOT EVER I AM SO EXCITE ---On a non-Transformers note, I surprisingly haven't watched much mecha anime, even though I've discovered my love of giant robots. xD But I ADORE Eureka 7 and Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. Both amazing shows, and Gurren Lagann is one of my top favorite anime of all time. I even have a necklace that's the Core Drill. 8D

Ooh, sign me up! I've watched Evangelion but also Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (which my family also loves), Code Geass (hey, it has robots!) and part of the Macroos series, namely Macross Plus.
I do plan to watch some more in the near future (such as more Macross, Gunbuster and some of the many Gundam series). Are there any series which you lovely people would recommend to me? ^_^ (I'd prefer not to archive binge too much so I'd prefer a series which is either relatively short or has various self-contained installments.)

I'll sign up, though I'm pretty low-level. Very, very low-level, in fact. I've got Evangelion, TTGL, and Bokurano under my belt, and that's it.
There's nothing to say about Eva and Gurren Lagann that hasn't already been said time and again by far more eloquent people than me, so I guess I'll mention Bokurano. It's amazing...ly depressing. Worse than Eva by far. I only watched the first few episodes, but read the entirety of the manga, which most people agree is better. It is quite good--it manages to make each of its fifteen main characters sympathetic in a different way, and gives each one a unique tragic ending. Also, the opening theme (Uninstall) is one of my all-time favorites--chilling, hauntingly beautiful, and fits the tone and themes of the story perfectly. ("I have no choice but to pretend that I am a warrior who knows no fear.")
