My writing life is nonexistent lately. I've lost all my momentum and am slacking off. So NaNo sounds perfect, right? The thing is, I've been working on (plotting, mostly) this one story of mine for ages, and then hit a dead end. Would taking a break from it do it good, or would it suffer and die while I was away? I think NaNo may be the only thing that can get me pumping out prose again.

Well...I'd say take the story you've just hit a dead-end on, and NaNo that! It's amazing what a time limit can do in terms of forced improvisation, and what forced improvisation can do for a story One thing about NaNo, though, is that it teaches you how to write even when you don't want to. If you want to win NaNo, you have to write a certain amount of words every single day, so it's a good way to learn how best to force yourself into writing, which I have to do from time to time =P I think NaNo would be a great way to unblock yourself, whether you use the story you mentioned or a totally different one =)

it! Worse that could happen is that you wear your fingers off to the joints due to too much typing.

My sister suggested the same thing, but I don't know. I want that story to be good. :P Last time I did NaNo, I wrote, "but I hate this story, so I'll tell you a new one" and launched into a Sonic-Kirby-SpongeBob crossover. XD
