Edited because I now actually know what I'm doing. ^_^ And I have at title, whoot! Cassandra is just starting her freshman year of college, and she’s scared as hell. But who could blame her? After all, passing your classes and making friends in an entirely new environment is hard enough without throwing lycanthropy into the mix. Cassandra thinks things are starting to look up until she begins to find her life inextricably linked with that of Bradley Farber - if that is his real name. At a quick glance, Bradley has no trouble passing as your average college-age guy, but he lives every day in the fear that someone will discover the fact that the identity he lives under is completely false. It’s not an ideal situation, to be sure, but what other choice does he have? Traveling to parallel universes is all fun and games until someone gets left behind, and Bradley wants nothing more than to go back home. Turns out, though, that the experiment that brought Bradley to another universe has more consequences than he could have guessed. For one thing, it’s causing the lunar cycles that control Cassandra’s lycanthropy to go completely out of whack. Not to mention the fact that both universes involved (and who knows what else) could be destroyed if no one can fix the fissure the experiment left behind. With Bradley as the only one in his current universe with enough knowledge to help close the fissure, and Cassandra the only one he trusts enough to have his back, the two will fight to save their universes - and maybe even their friendship. It’s a story about an inter-universal rift and its crazy consequences in the real world, sure. But it’s also about a lot more. It’s about an unlikely friendship founded on unlikely secrets. It’s about finding your true self, making sacrifices, and learning that what you though you wanted might not be what you need at all. *** Nothing much to see here right now. As in, I have pretty much no idea what I'm writing about this year. All I know is that I am doing NaNo and I want this year to be the first year I don't fail. See how far I've set the bar for myself? I actually do have a couple of very, very vague little bits of ideas floating around in my head, but I'm not quite sure what to do with any of them yet. I've got a month, but I feel like I should do way more preparation than I have in the past, since the make-it-up-as-I-go strategy has led me to crash and burn in all the years I've tried it.

Well, do as much prep as you think you should, but I've found that when I outline TOO much for NaNo, it stresses me out. The whole point of NaNo, I think, is to loosen you up as a writer. You can't do that if you have too much riding on your project.
So what I'm saying is, Good luck getting ready, but have fun!

Ha, I think my problem as a writer right now is that I'm far too loose as a writer. I don't plan to have my NaNo plotted out too extensively, but an idea of where I should be heading and maybe some major plot points to hit would be good, I think. Cassandra is a werewolf who's recently started her freshman year of college, and is just starting to realize that she can live in control of her deadly secret, instead of letting it rule her.
Bradley isn't from this planet - or even this universe. It's been almost a year since he was left here, and he is starting to come to terms with the fact that he probably won't ever be going home again.
And then something happens to turn both of their lives upside down.
Take a werewolf, a traveler from a parallel world, throw them into a crazy situation, and probably toss in some Norse mythology as well (BECAUSE I CAN), and you've got my NaNo for 2009. Have no idea what's going on? That's okay, I don't really either.

Then I've got another idea... it's about a writer who thinks his muse committed a murder to give him inspiration for his story, and ends up as a lead suspect, and the private detective he has to hire to clear his name. I've technically already written the very beginning, but not much. And it might be interesting to do. Just you wait... I'll list a bunch of NaNo ideas here and when it comes down to it, end up picking something completely different to write come November.

I'm leaning towards my second idea because I feel like it has more room for wacky shenanigans and for me to be completely random. On the other hand... I'm very worried it'll turn out to be some sort of bad Dirk Gently rip-off. :/
The first idea does have potential for wackiness... if I only had even the VAGUEST idea of what was going on with it past knowing who my two MCs are.

Awesomeness and happiness and joy and GLEE! I know the plot of my NaNo. <3 I spent a lot of time musing over it today and things suddenly started to fall together. It's changed a bit from what I originally thought it would be, but I'm really happy with what I've got to work with now. ^_^ Cassandra is just starting her freshman year of college, and she’s scared as hell. Yeah, I finally have a title. Which is impressive for me, since I'm awful at thinking them up, and usually just stick in the MC's name as a placeholder. Not sure how I feel about this title, but it's fitting to the story, in more ways than one, so I'll keep it for now.

This sounds like a lot of fun. xD Werewolves and time-travellers in the same story -- tell me, my dear Purple, have you been watching Doctor Who again?

The idea you're going with sounds fun. (You have to pick up the second idea later though, because I want to read it. It sounds boss.)

This sounds like a lot of fun. xD Werewolves and time-travellers in the same story -- tell me, my dear Purple, have you been watching Doctor Who again? Always! Though not nearly enough as of late. I'm hoping my call for a Doctor Who-watching party with my friends this weekend goes through. The idea you're going with sounds fun. (You have to pick up the second idea later though, because I want to read it. It sounds boss.) Thanks! Yeah, it's something I really want to write because although it's different from most of what I write, it seems so much like the sort of thing I'd read. It's not nearly fleshed out enough at the moment to do the idea justice. Hopefully someday, though.

Less than 100 words in and I decided one of my main characters needs a name change? What a way to start off NaNo. Plus there's the fact that he actually needs two names, since he's hiding under a fake one. I think original name will have to work as a placeholder for one of them for now.

Excerpt time! It's just my first paragraph, and it's already posted on my NaNo profile, but I like it, so I'm gonna repost it here, since I don't have an excerpt up here yet. He likened the feeling most to being terribly smashed-up drunk and trying to close one’s eyes - the world spun around him at dizzying speeds and his stomach was sure he would soon be violently ill as the solid world was flung away from under his feet and shoved back under again before he had time to comprehend what had happened. The chances of puking and falling over while universe-hopping were comparable to being drunk; fortunately the chances of discovering that one had spent the night dancing on a human pole to crappy music were considerably less. One benefit to being drunk, Perry would later realize, was that the likelihood of being abandoned in a strange parallel universe by one’s companions was virtually nil, at least at the sort of parties he went to.
