I still don't know why I signed up for this (considering how enormous my giant work list is at the moment), but I always wanted to try this (seemingly insane) writing project for some odd reason. I doubt I'll get to 50,000 words in a month; that seems almost impossible o_o so I'll probably just aim for 10,000 or... something.
Brainstormin' time~
I have two options:
1. Write the story that's been sitting in my head for nearly 2 years because I lacked the motivation to actually write it. (I think this NaNo would help me focus... somehow.) Everything is /almost/ planned out. I know the main characters, how it begins, how it ends, those little scenes of LOL-ness and such, but I'm still undecided on what happens in the middle. (So there, another reason why using this could be a good choice.)
The idea might be a little common too, so this writing thing would probably force me to get away from the usual.
2. Write a completely different, non-fantasy type of thing that's actually... well, normal. That's because I've always written those bizarre fantasy-adventure-oh-save-the-world-before-it-blows-up plots and I lack stories that actually take place in -this- world.
Again, a challenge of sorts because I usually don't write these type of things. (and I think I need the practice!)
Long rambling ahead:
[spoiler=The First
Setting and Characters]
This was originally a Neopets type of story, but it sort of became (super) complicated and... violent and the characters became more... human in my head after awhile.
The Setting
Ithalyas - Ithalyas is known to be a powerful empire situated in the southern part of the Desert Realm. It is ruled over by the Ayth'ri Royal House, a family whose rule is riddled with scandals and deceit.
Villea - Half of the story occurs in this place. It was originally part of Ithalyas, but years ago, it broke free from the Empire, choosing to be an independent and democratic country.
The Characters
Jaeire Zedanthri Seth'el - Throughout his short life, he was always known as "Jaeire Lucien," only to find out that it wasn't his real name when he unknowingly eavesdropped on a conversation between his father and the principal of his new school. (He kept what he knew a secret basically.) At 11, he was enrolled at the Villea Academy where his elder cousin was also studying, however, life at the school was not what he expected. Apparently, he was sent there for another reason besides education; he was sent there to be taught how to defend himself against the Ayth'ris.
Anna Cratoa Seth'el - Known as "Anna Lucien." The cousin of Jaeire, and also studying at the Villea Academy.
Dorean Ferrien Seth'el - "Dorean Lucien." Jaeire's father.
Tarina Seth'el - Known to everyone as "Tarina Lucien." Jaeire's mother who died quite a mysterious death. (and Jaeire will find out why sooner or later... somehow 8D)
Ahmose Khezali - The principal of Villea Academy, and the head of The Hidden, a secret society bent on protecting the Seth'el Family and teaching its young ones to defend themselves against the Ayth'ris' hired assassins... wherever they may be.
Plus other characters, but they're minor and unimportant ^_^
Things one should know about the Seth'els/Luciens - The Aythr'is weren't the true founders of the Ithalyas Empire; the Seth'els were. Centuries ago, a rebellion ensued against the family due to a (complicated ._.) conflict between several Royal Houses. The Ayth'ris had most of the members killed off, but a handful of them escaped to the nearby countries. Since then, they've set out to find the remaining Seth'els and finish them off before they come forth with a claim to the throne. Then they proceeded to getting rid of all the records of the family and rewriting history. (Book burnings galore~ ._.)
Vennaline Tyrane Ayth'ri - The Ayth'ri princess whose parents, the King and Queen, disappeared without a trace. This makes her the heir to the throne. Obsessed with healing (unlike her bloodthirsty relatives) and finding the truth about her parents.
Dante Gezoa Ayth'ri - Regent of Ithalyas, temporary ruler until his niece Venna turns of age. He dislikes his job, really, and would rather travel to different places.
Reena Sahara Ayth'ri - Venna's aunt. Unlike Dante, she'd rather take over the throne herself, but when she raised that idea to Dante, he utterly refused.
Plus other family members and conspiring friends, but they're minor and unimportant :D
Actually, I need to edit out those character thingies and plot stuff for the supposed villain side. Might as well make it up as I go along ^_^
Things one should know about the Ayth'ris - Some of them aren't that bad; /most/ of them are just untrustworthy and ready to betray their own kin ^^

[spoiler=Still The First
Supposed Plot]
* Jaeire
Snippets of scenes about how this one would begin
- Jaeire and his father arriving at the gates of the Academy.
- Khezali's office: a short meeting with Jaeire's father about schedules (though Jaeire is doubtful about that).
- A bunch of tricksters running about madly, causing chaos in the lobby of the school. (Meet Flavian li Vardonth, Arya de los Navia, Alexander Thalinosen... three mischievous kiddos.)
Snippets of scenes for the middle part
Uh... no ideaa. (This shall be the challenge!)
Snippets of scenes for the ending part
- A scene with the assassins. Someone important telling Jaeire to stay hidden no matter what.
- Person battling the assassins. Jaeire thinking that they'd be beaten.
- A wrong move.
- Death.
- Revenge.
* Venna
Snippets of scenes about how this one would begin
- Venna + Uncle + Aunt + Cousins scene
No clue.
Snippets of scenes for the middle part
- Conversations between the Aunt and the Uncle – Refusal!
- Aunt conspiring with the Mages.
- Poisonous soup and protection spells.
Other than that... no idea.
Snippets of scenes for the ending part
- Venna finding out about the assassins and the family being the false rulers.
- Finding the truth about her parents.
- Escape. The quest to find her parents and get away from Ithalyas as fast as possible.
....geez. That was long.
This is just... a parallel type of tale, showing both sides of the story.
A complicated one at that. With flaws. And stuff.
x-x
So basically, the first is like a long complicated mess due to the fact that it was accumulating dust in my head for 2 years. o_o I like it though, but is this NaNo-able?
A problem with this is the timeline. In my head, it supposedly happened through a course of seven years which seems difficult to write now. Another is the big big BIG cast of characters who all play some important role or something throughout the story.
(There's also a great possibility that I'll scrap this outline, keep a little bit of it, and make it up as I go along.)
[spoiler=The Second
Just... (short) thoughts]
The storms that happened here were the inspiration... oddly enough. I don't know if that's good or bad, but...
Families were sent to the evacuation center due to the raging floods that destroyed most of their homes. Rita and her brother, Peter, were sent there, but they have one dilemma: they were separated from the rest of their family. In the evacuation center, their quest for their parents and grandparents begins, but along the way, they talk to various people who also have their stories to tell.
Another problem: Another storm—a supposed bigger and more terrible one—is on the way, and there is... fear.
In another place not far from the center, there is a certain person who volunteered to help out the victims of the flood. And his story is... well, still a WIP, but he'll most likely play a big part in this thing.
The second one... I have half a mind to write it in Filipino with a bit of English (Taglish, yup) because... well, it captures the mood and the culture of this place more (if that makes sense.)
But then again... just plans. Just plans.
