By Starlight: Nova's Novel

Hakey, so apparently my 'NaNo' is called Starlight. I decided it like two seconds ago. =D! Whoohoo.

I guess.. as I'm typing... my brain is evolving the plot. Right now, I think... that the story is going to be set in a Tabloid Townesque place, somewhere on Earth, that is a magical place.

(I'm literally thinking of the plot as I'm typing, mind you. As I already said. Might as well emphasize the emphasis. XD)

The place was put under a curse by a mad witch, name currently unknown. The town was hidden from earth, in a bubble (like Altador. Only time continues as normal) into a different dimension, and since then the town has been trying to defeat the Witch and get the town back to earth.

However, the dimension is blocked from the sun. They only see the stars and the moon. However, one star in particular, provides enough warmth and light to help the town. If it dies, then the citizens would perish.

...I guess everyone can tell what's going on now. XD Yes, the star is a red giant (hence how it emits enough light) and the citizens never know how long it will be until it supernovas. It could be another five hundred years, or five seconds. =D

So two citizens, Mario and Kayleen must defeat the Witch or find a way to get back to Earth, so they will no longer rely on starlight.

...I like this plot.

I suppose I should mention that this is an attempt. =D By any means this may not finish. Actually, my personal goal is to exceed 5 thousand words. (...XDDDDDD)

But maybe I will continue on later and once it's all done I can go up to my English teacher and be all "CAN U EDIT 4 ME PLZ? KTHXBAI!"

So yeah. =D Information may be subject to change. Such as Kayleen's name. I think Kalianne might suit her. And I like the nickname "Kal". x3

Really interesting concept you've got here, though! (Though I'm just biased because I love the name 'Mario' because of some short stories by Isaac Asimov, and stars for much the same reason.)

Kinda developing the plot further.

The story starts a few hundred years ago, when the town (now known as Cascades, a peaceful coastal village with a magical waterfall that washes away your worries, and gives hope and peacefulness X3) was with Earth, and then the witch (or so everyone thinks she's a witch) comes to Cascades and casts a spell that removes the town from earth and into it's own dimension.

Then, in present day, Mario and Kal(ianne) decide to turn it back and hunt down the witch. But they must pierce the bubble veil and head into different places such as fire, water, sand etc. to find a certain scroll that will summon the witch.

But meanwhile, the witch is watching them....

I had a really unexpected busy day today. XD; I only wrote 234 words, and I haven't even finished the introduction.

..Nevermind that the story begins 100 years before the main characters are even mentioned. XD;

=D So I got some writing done. Yay for real-life story I like writing!

She was thousands of years old, probably even more than that. A one in three hundred billion chance, she was born with sorcery from within. The people that knew were shocked beyond belief, but she soon found the power to make them forget all about her powers. Because of this, she grew up and was treated like a normal girl and a young lady.

As she aged, she found that she didn’t age like anyone else. Twenty, thirty, forty, fifty, sixty; the years went by, and no hint of going old and dying. Her friends looked at her oddly, as she was young as sixteen. To cover this up, she used her own magic to age. But as each of her friends died one by one and she didn’t, she knew she had to hide from the Earth, before her secrets were revealed.

She found an early settlement she thought she could hide temporarily. Completely removed from the world, she thought she could hide here for years before having to move. Or so she thought.

An unknowing man saw through her disguise as a twenty five year old. Meeting her the first time at the age of ten, by the time he was thirty three, he thought it was odd. The Sorceress tried to convince him by using her magic, but his body wouldn’t take to the magic. He knew what she was trying to do; he could feel the magic trying to overcome him. But he resisted. And this was the first problem the Sorceress had to solve.

The man spread the word over the town, trying to reveal the Sorceress for who she really was. He knew she had evil blood in her, he could sense it. And one by one, he broke the trance over the settlement. They realized what she was doing: manipulating them, stealing money from the small treasury they had, and stealing from her own neighbours just to get by.

So, thank goodness for an evening where I didn't have to do anything. XD I can't believe I got today's daily quota for NaNo. (First time ever. =O)

..I can't believe I wrote 1,756 words without even introducing the main characters of the story. >> But.. as Ginz said, that's NaNo. XDD Still, it's good, because I often wondered how to get a good length for a Novel.. so now maybe I actually can. =D

And I love this story too. <3 It's a very interesting concept, I'm quite pleased with myself for comign up with this in a matter of minutes. *pokes first post* ^_^ And yet, my writing is taking on a life of it's own, so who knows where this'll take next?

“Yeah, she has the most advanced knowledge here in Cascades! I wouldn’t show this to any amateur!”

“That’s exactly it – witchcraft. This is just a book, not a spell book.” Mario said defensively.

“Well what if it is? I mean the writing is in a complete different language.”

“Kal, we’re not in that mythical land called Earth. We’re in Cascades, the only city in this entire world that stretches out on forever. Clearly this is somebody’s, they must’ve dropped it in the center field.”

“Then why did you show it to me if you were just going to return it?” Kalianne asked inquisitively.

“Because I thought you might be interested in it! I wasn’t expecting you to think that this was some sort of adventure.”

“Oh please. Someone all this time randomly drops a book in the center field? Come on, no one goes to the center field unless they need grass for their potions. Listen. We’ll take this to Morgan and ask if she knows who this belongs to. Maybe it’s hers!”

“Morgan never leaves her house! You of all people should know that!” Mario exclaimed.

Kali shook her head. “You never know. Come on, if we find out who owns this then we can ask them questions about it. I know you’re just dying to find out what this is all about.”

“But not to Morg-”

“To Morgan’s.”

As they walked, Mario spiked up a conversation. “So what do you think we’re exactly getting into? Seems like we’re getting information to return Cascades to Earth!”

“Well isn’t that a good thing? I mean, getting our place back to the way it was? We’re so alone here in this grassland, I think visiting different cities would be a good thing. Besides, we’re only gaining information all the wise people in town knows, so it’s not like we’re gaining extra information.”

“Well yeah, I dunno. This place is our lives, and it seems like we’re spending it all on to getting somewhere else. If Earth really exists, would we want to go to it? What if this is the better place to be and we ruin our time here by getting to go to a worse area? Then we’d never come back here.”

“Well, like Morgan said, I’m pretty sure we’re a long ways of any major breakthroughs.” Kali said. “From Tim’s story and Morgan’s view, it seems like the witch/sorceress is a pretty strong lady. For now, it seems like a good way to focus our time on. What would Cascades do if we didn’t do anything about it?”

“True. But still, I don’t have an easy feeling about this.”

“Look, let’s just talk to Cornel about the page two hundred twenty, and if it’s nothing we’ll leave the book with her and we’ll forget the whole thing. Okay?”

“Okay, that works.”

As soon as they finished their conversation, they reached Cornelius’s doorstep. Knocking on her red door, the sweet elderly lady answered with glee. “Mario! Kalianne!” she exclaimed. “Come on in!”

I'm only 500 words behind the daily word count thing, which is good. =D Today was a bit of a struggle, but I'm finally past that awful cahracter. I'm gonna kill him. Even though the way I brought him *into* the novel was resurrecting him. XDD Ah well. He likes the afterlife.

4,551 words for Day 3. Not bad. =D Hopefully I'm inspired tomorrow to keep going, and maybe even get ahead of the game.

Eh.. yeah, like I thought, November's a really busy month. Friday I had a grand total of 5 minutes on the computer to check facebook, NTWF, do a couple quick neo-dailies..XD And I had to eat my dinner during all that too. =P So naturally, I think I'm a good 5-6k words behind now.

I don't intend to finish this in the month of november, oh no.. But I am going to continue working on the story to give it the proper ending. ^_^ I really do like the story, even if some parts are really badly written. x3

I'll probably continue posting excerpts from it here, and when Nanos done and this board is locked away, I'll post 'em in my diary. =3
