Holy NaNo time again, Batman. Where does the time go? But anyway, PFA is taking on NaNo once again, hoping that it won't crash and burn as spectacularly as it did last year! <3 *dramatic pose* So you remember that novel idea I had last year that I decided not to do? Well, I'm bringing it back. Title: Save the Fourth Wall! Genre: Humor/parody/spoof Plot: A spectacular phenomenon in which several characters break the Fourth Wall at once causes the Wall to shatter into many pieces, beyond the point where it can fix itself. This means that the only thing keeping their worlds separate no longer exists, leaving them with an unstable mesh of worlds that probably cannot hold up for too long. Knowing they need to get their respective universes back in proper order, A.G.'s various protagonists gather together to find the pieces of the broken Wall. They face not only challenges from the unstable world mesh, but also challenges from the antagonists, who see this as an excellent opportunity to get together and rid the worlds of their rivals for good. It'll be fun! And hopefully my hyper spontaneity will be a proper fuel for this one, unlike the tragedy that was A New Fayonia.

Might as well get this thing off the bottom of the NaNo board with a random excerpt! Red Fire’s eyes slowly flickered open, giving her the chance to take in her surroundings. The first thing she realized was that she was no longer in Taishoki City, meaning that she had no clue where she was. The second thing she realized was that she had no clue how she’d even gotten here in the first place. The third thing she realized was that she had no memory of even being rendered unconscious.
“...What the heck just happened?” was all she could think of to say.
“I think the Fourth Wall broke,” came a vaguely familiar voice. Someone from one of those other stories, she thought... what was his name? Falcon? “Well, maybe not broken so much as... exploded.”
Red sat up, looking in the direction the voice had come from. Sure enough, it was that blond-haired guy from Venustus Decus. She still couldn’t recall his name though. “‘Exploded’? What do you mean it ‘exploded’?”
“Exactly what I said.” He brushed his bangs out of his eyes. “I was just trying to find where Kirsten was taken, when all of the sudden, the Fourth Wall... shattered. Pieces flying everywhere. I have no idea how it happened...”
Red decided not to ask who Kirsten was or why she was ‘taken.’ She figured it didn’t really matter at this point. “Well, my guess would be somebody broke the Fourth Wall again... but then why hasn’t it fixed itself yet? And how the heck did I get out here...?”
She decided to take the moment to look around and try to figure out where ‘out here’ was, exactly. That was when she realized that this place wasn’t exactly... normal. She could see some part of her surroundings that looked vaguely like Taishoki City, but it looked like it was overlapping with some other, purple-skied place. Wait, purple sky? she realized. Didn’t that place in Venustus Decus have one of those or something...?
“It’s almost as if the worlds have merged together...” was the blond’s comment. “Perhaps without the Fourth Wall to keep them separate...”
“They don’t know how to keep themselves apart?” Red finished the sentence, drifting to her feet. The handy thing about being able to fly was that it made it that much easier to stand up. “Well, that’s just great... whatever happened to everyone else, anyway? Blue? Green? Yellow?”
“I’m not sure where any of my friends are, either,” came the reply, a hint of concern apparent in his tone. “You’re actually the first one I’ve come across so far. Perhaps we should look around and see if we can find anyone else?”
“Agreed,” Red replied. “Someone’s got some explaining to do, that’s for sure. Come on, let’s try this way!”
Red promptly began flying off in the indicated direction, toward the half of the strange world mesh that looked more like Taishoki City. She decided that that would be a good place to start if she were to look for the rest of the Niji Chikara. Even if this weird world mesh didn’t seem to stay entirely true to the Taishoki she knew. Wherever this crazy world was, it certainly didn’t seem very stable.
It was a few moments before it occurred to her that her Venustus Decus comrade could not fly.
She promptly stopped midair, looking behind her to see the blond in question running behind her, trying his best to catch up to her. He was a pretty good sprinter, Red realized that much, but he wasn’t fast enough to keep up with her quick flight speed.
“Wait... could you... slow down, please?” he asked between pants, once he’d caught up.
“How about I just carry you or something?” Red replied, a hand on her hip.
“...Eh? You can do that?” The blond obviously seemed a bit surprised by the offer.
“Why not? I’ve carried people before.” She promptly flew over to him and scooped him up. He made startled grunts as she did this, which she payed no attention to. “See? No problem!”
“...Um... okay.” His tone and expression made it apparent that he’d never flown before. Not that that was any real surprise to Red; she didn’t suspect many people had. “Let’s go, then?”
“Yeah, let’s.” With that, Red took off again, once again ignoring the startled grunts from her passenger. They had people to find, and hopefully answers to come with them.

...So as it turns out, PFA is some kind of insane writing beast this year 'cause she just hit 10k. On the third day. ...This is two days ahead of where I was last year, that's for sure. Anyway, since I've done this for both my previous NaNos, might as well keep with the trend. The words that took me to the landmark numbers: 10k: Believing 20k: Larissa 30k: while 40k: ending 50k: were That almost could have been a vaguely understandable sentence, but then it didn't turn out that way. XD Alas.

PFA's wordcount just keeps going up~ Soyeah, I was sitting there trying to come up with a spontaneous plot device out of nowhere? When all of the sudden I sorta ended up with a spontaneous usage of this dare: Dare: Include a delicate crystal trinket somewhere in the story. Have it glow with untold power, be engraved with intricate magical runes, be stored in a prominent place of honor, and always be referred to in capital letters (as in, The Crystal of Light.) Write a lengthy description of it. Have one or more characters stop to admire it, and possibly feel an immediate magical connection to it. In other words, set it up as if it's going to be a major plot device. Then have somebody drop it, shattering it into a million pieces. Oops. Bonus points if everyone just shrugs it off and moves on, and the incident is never brought up again. Ah well, powerful magical artifacts are a dime a dozen these days. It wasn’t long before the abandoned house came into sight. Almodine scanned the area for the piece of the Fourth Wall that she saw, smiling as soon as she spotted it. She quickly pointed a finger toward it, indicating its presence to everyone else. “There! There it is!”
Sure enough, there it was: it was a rather large chunk of wall, sitting there right at the entrance of the abandoned house. In fact, it was blocking anyone from getting in or out of the house in question. Vallen promptly ran up to it, beckoning the others to help him heft it out of the way.
Before long, Vallen, Green and Aiiro were hefting up the Wall piece, huffing and puffing as they slowly inched it away from the door. Once they got it a fair distance away, they set it down, taking a moment to catch their breaths.
“It’s... it’s really heavy,” Vallen pointed out, as if we haven’t figured that out already.
Red, noticing this blatant fact, put her hand on her hip with a huff. “Well, if we can barely even carry it, then how the heck are we supposed to get it back to the Fourth Wall?!”
“Um... very slowly?” was Blue’s brilliant idea.
“We don’t have time for slowly, dang it!” Red snapped. “I mean, there’s no telling how long the worlds will even be able to hold up! What if everything collapses in on us while we’re hefting giant Wall chunks?!”
Larissa frowned. “If only we had a convenient plot device that could help us get this piece back to the Fourth Wall...”
“Convenient plot device, eh?” came the voice of an elderly man, followed by a chuckle. “Why, I think I might be able to help with that...”
The group glanced toward the abandoned house again, noticing a balding old man with a white beard walking out of it, through the entrance that was previously blocked by a Wall piece. Apparently he was trapped in there up until the protagonists decided to move the mentioned piece.
Vallen and Almodine were able to immediately recognize the man. “Avrum?”
“Ahh, Vallen, Almodine. It’s so good to see you.” Avrum greeted the two with a warm smile. “It’s also good to see it so quiet around Muilic, even if it’s only temporary...”
“It’s only quiet because the Fourth Wall broke, and none of the random soldiers were significant enough to make it through the resulting mess,” Vallen pointed out. “And we need to fix the Fourth Wall before Muilic and the other worlds collapse from instability.”
“Ah yes, you always have been quick to the point, Vallen my boy...” Avrum sighed, reaching into his pocket. He pulled out a delicate crystal, tied to a string as if to be worn as a necklace. “Anyway, I believe you were hoping for a convenient plot device?”
Gloria eyed the crystal, making note of the fine and intricate details engraved across its surface. The crystal was a brilliant azure color, sparking under even the faintest of sunlight. It seemed almost as if it were glowing, what with the mystical aura that emanated from the crystal. Along with that, it gave off an air of peace and tranquility, that brought a feeling of calmness to one’s heart just by looking at its reflective surface.
“What’s that?” Gloria breathed out, in awe of the beautiful artifact.
“This crystal contains the magic to teleport anything to any location you desire with just a thought,” Avrum explained. “For instance, if you wanted to take this piece of rock back to the Fourth Wall, all it would take is this...”
Avrum held the crystal up as if aiming it at the Wall piece. With a spectacular glow of light, the Wall piece was promptly teleported away, presumably back to the Fourth Wall where it belonged. The group exchanged smiles, as Avrum turned to Gloria.
“I believe this crystal will be a wonderful help on your journeys, yes?” Avrum asked, handing the crystal to Gloria.
“Yes... this is exactly what we could use. Thanks so much!” Gloria smiled, taking the crystal gently.
“Just be careful with it, now,” Avrum insisted. “It is very fragile, after all...”
As if on cue, Gloria discovered that her delicate grip on the crystal wasn’t quite enough to keep it in her hands. It slipped out of her grasp, and she made a few failed attempts to grab it out of the air before it fell onto a conveniently placed rock, shattering into a thousand pieces.
There was silence for a moment as everyone stared at the dust that used to be a beautiful, mystical crystal. It was Avrum who broke the silence, breaking into a lighthearted chuckle.
“...Well, I suppose that’s the end of that convenient plot device,” he said with a shrug.
Red, however, did not seem nearly as tickled. “Oh come on! We get a plot device conveniently handed to us on a platter, and then you just go and drop it?!”
“Is it really a surprise, now?” Avrum replied. “I mean, convenient plot devices are horribly cliché, even with a broken Fourth Wall.”
Red was about to go off on another angry tangent, but Blue stopped her, putting a hand on her shoulder to calm her down. “Well, at least we managed to move the Fourth Wall piece, right? It was plot-convenient long enough for that, at least!”
Try as she might to come up with a way to protest this, Red eventually just ended up letting it go with an exasperated sigh. “Whatever... I guess there’s nothing we can do about it now.” I didn't end up staying completely true to the dare--didn't give it a name or put it in a prominent place of honor--but I was just kind of typing randomly off the top of my head, so... yeah. XD I'll just blame that dare for inspiring that scene and call it good.

I haven't posted anything in this thread in a while, so um. Here's an excerpt for you guys! The protagonists, after a while of hobbling across the plains, eventually managed to get the Fourth Wall piece back to where it belonged. They heaved it over to approximately where it should go, leaving the Fourth Wall to take care of the rest on its own. The heroes each let out a deep sigh, taking a moment to rest their aching muscles.
”Oh wow...” Gloria said between pants. “That thing is really heavy!”
“Well, at least we got it back to the Fourth Wall,” Almodine admitted with a sigh. “That’s a step in the right direc--”
“OH GUYS HIIII.” The sudden shout interrupted Almodine. It didn’t take the protagonists long to realize that the shout came from none other than A.G. herself. It became even more apparent when the author in question came running up, stopping just at the other side of the Fourth Wall, with a massive grin plastered on her face. “Thank goodness you guys are here. I need someone to SPAZZ UNCONTROLLABLY to for a moment!”
Red could only gape in awe at the expression on A.G.’s face. “...Don’t tell me.”
“YES. OFFICIAL RECORDING.” A.G. started, as she had said earlier, spazzing uncontrollably. “And it’s really really awesome! Eee eee eee eee eee!!”
Larissa blinked in confusion. “Huh? Official recording of what?”
“Do you really want to know?” Yellow said in response, rolling her eyes. “A.G., you are a shameless fangirl. SHAMELESS.”
“What can I say?” A.G. replied with a massive grin. She then promptly put a hand over her chest dramatically and started to sing, too hyper to care that she was off-key. “All the siiigns point tooooo the truuuuuuth~”
“Oh, here we go.” Yellow could only roll her eyes. “A.G., do you actually have anything useful to say, or are you just here to make a fool of yourself?”
“My perfect guilty record... forever TAINTED, thanks to yoooouuuu~!” A.G. obviously wasn’t listening.
“A.G.!” Red snapped. “Can’t you stop singing that stupid song for two freaking seconds?!”
“This court is meant to stop the ones who bring darkness to the light,” A.G. replied with a witty grin. “It’s natural--no miracle--for this court to make it right!” She laughed to herself at the joke no one else thought was funny. “Anyway, did you guys want something or something?”
“Well, first off, you came to us, not the other way around,” Aiiro pointed out with a raised eyebrow. “Second, since you’re here anyway, perhaps you could enlighten us on where we might be able to find the next Fourth Wall piece?”
“Didn’t I tell you that already?” A.G. put her hands on her hips defiantly. “You’ve got to get to the oasis!”
“The ‘oasis in the land of death’s song’? Yeah, you said that already,” Yellow said in response. “But it would be helpful if you could be a little less vague about it.”
“It’s no fun if it’s not cryptic,” A.G. pointed out, sticking her tongue out at the protagonists. “Come on, I’ve been trying to drop hints here. Just think about what time of year it is, and it should become clear!”
Red raised an eyebrow. “Um... no, not really.”
“You’re just not thinking hard enough, then.” A.G. grinned mischievously. “Come on, this is an easy one! Just use your brains! You do have brains, don’t you?”
“Of course we have brains!” Red snapped. “But we don’t have time for your stupid mind games when the Fourth Wall is like this!”
“Hey, I’m not giving you any more hints,” A.G. replied matter-of-factly. “So either go out and find that Wall piece or I’ll start singing more Decree at you.”
“Wait!” Almodine yelped. “Can’t you at least tell us how many more Wall pieces we have to find?”
“Weeell, seeing as there’s only about six thousand more words to go, I’d say not many,” was A.G.’s cheery reply. “Now, unless you have any more questions--”
This actually unleashed a wave of questions from the various characters. “Who was that Edward kid from a while ago?” “Where is Ceresa at?” “What does Sanry really want from us?” “How much longer will the worlds hold up?” “Can we get any more convenient Wall-moving plot devices?”
In response to this, A.G. simply cleared her throat discreetly. Then, in the closest imitation to tenor she could muster, she again began to sing. “Guilty of blaaaming an iiiinnocent maaaan... that is the curse of the pro-se-cu-tor~”
“Okay, okay! We get the point!” Red grumbled, hovering off and beckoning the others to follow her with a huff. “Come on, guys, let’s get out of here!”
“Before I faced him, I won every case... but now I have been shaaamed and disgraaaaaced~~” A.G. continued singing even as the protagonists were wandering off. She even continued singing as she skipped back over to her own office on her side of the Fourth Wall. Her characters decided that in situations like this, it was best to just give A.G. a wide berth. Points if you can figure out where my cryptic clues are talking about. XD
