Terrence cringed at Alistair's burr comment. He hated untidy things.
"Well, since you now know the details of your situation, I believe Madam Gwin and I shall be going now--"
"Terrence!" Gwin interrupted. "They are guests in our forest! That would be rude."
Terrence seemed to be having a terrible battle within himself. He clearly did not appreciate the newcomers, but he never disobeyed the Madam.
"All right," he said, beaten. "As you wish."
Gwin beamed and turned back to the "guests."
"Now, where were we?" she asked happily. "Oh yes. You're all trapped. Well, since you'll be here for who knows how long, would you like me to show you where Terrence and I reside? Father Elm would love to meet you."

Lucifer shrugged. "No reason not to. A few reasons to do so. I'd like to see where you live, even if the others don't." He hesitated a bit before asking "If you don't mind telling us, why does Terrence call you Madam? It seems rather odd."

"It would be an honor to meet Father Elm. I remember that lesson at least." Alistair re-adjusted his quiver of arrows hanging from around his waist, and shoulder his food pouch. Amused by the tanager's obvious dislike of untideness, the general began to straighten himself, his pelt was already clean from the swim he and Lucifer had. "Lead the way, madame Gwin."

Gwin began to answer Lucifer's question, but Terrence cut in.
"It is a sign of respect and politeness, Lucifer. I don't expect you to understand it." His beady eyes bore into the dragon's angrily.
"Terrence!" Gwin said, appalled by his rudeness. "Please!"
Terrence said nothing but fluttered to Gwin so she could climb on his back.
"This way!" Gwin called as the tanager took off quickly. He raced through the trees and tangled vines, not bothering to make sure the others were keeping up. Finally they reached Father Elm, and Terrence landed lightly on the branch nearest to Gwin's cozy nest.

Alistair raised a brow at the wizard and the dragon. "Looks like the bird doesn't take kindly to strangers." He galloped after the winged-ones, weaving his way gracefully in and out of the trees. When Terrence and Gwin stopped, he halted, breathing lightly. Softly he mumured to himself, not sure if the tree spoke as it did in legend. "Hail to you, Father Elm."

"It is a sign of respect and politeness, Lucifer. I don't expect you to understand it."
"If you were from my own people, I'd expect you to say something like that." Lucifer's voice was calm, as if he was spoken to like that every day. "But since you are not, and you do not know me, perhaps you could withhold judgement until you know me better?" He flew after the little bird, resisting the impulse to snap at it, like he would with the birds he hunted. He perched, not in the boughs of Father Elm, but in one of the surrounding trees.

"Raff! Raff! Where is that duragit* human?!" Kazic, the black jaguar, shouted as he ran through the forest. "Raff! There's a dragon here, watch out!" Then he tripped over a hidden tree root, rolled down a hill, fell off a cliff, and just barely managed to catch a tree branch, face to face with Lucifer. "Oh, not you again." he growled fearfully, unaware of the others, nor the great tree nearby.
*(An insult in the language of the jaguars)

Lucifer tilted his head to the side. "Me again? What do you mean, me again? I've never seen you before."

Raff ran after the party, cursing internally for wearing his long, flowing robes. He stumbled more than once before arriving at the elm to see Lucifer talking to Kazic.
"You made it!" he called happily. Perhaps the jaguar was a bit angry with Raff for fleeing form the dragons, but still, they were friends. "Those dragons sure were trouble, eh? No offense, Lucifer," he said, turning to the dragon, "we were merely hoping to observe the mating process as to further our research."

Alistair turned, amused. "Friends of yours Lucifer?" He stamped a hoof and stepped towards the jaguar. "You. Are loud." He placed a big, brown hand on his sword and waited. "Well jaguar? What is your name. Don't dawdle."

"I am Kazic, and as for your question, O Great Dragon," The jaguar said, with obvious sarcasm on the title, "Are you not the one that tried to eat me not two hours ago?"

Lucifer looked at the jaguar. "... Me. Eat you?" He started laughing, somehow managing to say "You're bigger than I am. And I don't attack stuff that can kill me, which you could."

Taken aback, Kazic twitched his ears. He wasn't sure if the dragon was sincere or not. "Hmmph. Perhaps you are not the one." In any case he was losing his grip on the tree branch. "Ah, a little help, Raff? It's an awfully long drop."

'Thump!' 'Ah! Sentinent beings. Wonderful.' Lyrra straightened her skirt, and stood, grey eyes sweeping the area. 'I think I must have fallen asleep or something to that effect. No wonder my back is stiff.' She waved a scale-topped travelling staff at the group with no real conviction 'I'm totally lost. I was just wandering around and BANG! I'm in a tree.'

"Sentinent? Might you mean 'sentient'? Uh... seriously, Raff, I'm about to fall."
