Kay fingered the rim of the golden goblet on the table, the deep red liquid shimmering in the faint rays of moonlight. A burned out candle stood next to the goblet, cobwebs covering the remnants of the wax. His violet eyes gleamed with pleasure as he recounted his last victim, a young homeless girl. She had tried to put up a fight, but as with all his victims, her spirit was drained from her. Literally.
He smiled as he remembered the feeling of his fangs piercing her soft neck, tapping into the arteries that carried her lifeblood. Her fear had increased her blood flow, pumping it harder, until there was no more blood to pump. Her final screams had echoed throughout the street, but there was nobody to hear them. Only the dogs that would later feast on her body had picked up the cold, frightened shriek of absolute terror.
The sweet taste of her blood still lingered in his mouth, he had enjoyed that meal immensely. Yet he knew that there were better delicacies out there. Royalty, whose veins carried blood kept pure for generations. The most prized blood of them all, it carried a taste sweeter than honey, a satisfaction deeper than any other pleasure on the planet.
Perhaps that was why the kings filled their castles with knights, mages, and all manner of servants. But the challenge only made the final piercing of the neck ever more sweeter.
He knew that he wouldn't be able to hunt one such prize alone though. He was a young vampire, having only been created in the last half century, but he wasn't rash like the others. He had seen enough vampires being burned at the stake to know that taking such a difficult task on alone would spell certain doom.
His eyes looked towards the clock, it was fifteen past one in the morning. His partner would arrive any moment now. A evil smile spread across his face, if all went well, the both of them would have feasted on enough royal blood to last them a year.
