In 1872, the Mary Celeste was found abandoned off the coast of Portugal by the crew of the Dei Grata. What happened to the crew of the Mary Celeste was never to be known, and why they suddenly vanished remains a popular mystery.

OOC: About time I started testing the roleplaying waters in this forum. So anyway, as you may have guessed from the introduction, this is about the crew of the Mary Celeste. Following the dominant pirate-ninja theme in this forum, this roleplay follows the theory that the Mary Celeste encountered a band of pirates that for some reason or other let the ship go.
Most of the crew didn’t survive the pirate raid, and several ran away to the mercy of the open ocean. Captain Benjamin Briggs and his wife Sarah Elizabeth Briggs were taken prisoner by the pirate band. On the pirate ship, The Deckhand’s Ghost, they met another pair of prisoners, strange exotic ones at that.
Things take a turn for the better, or maybe the worse, when the pirates lose their captain in a freak storm, and have to turn to the navigating abilities of Captain Briggs. Still, this does not mean they trust him as yet, nor will they submit to him. However, the captain has managed to negotiate partial freedom for him, his wife and the two other prisoners who he has taken a liking to.

I require a pm stating which role you wish to play before you join, I don’t want two people to write up amazing intros for the same character. The roleplaying style will be multi para, in other words, no one-liners. I expect a minimum of two paragraphs per post, four lines per paragraph, but preferably more.
If you have some form of instant messaging all the better to keep ooc chatter down to a minimum. I don’t expect this roleplay to move fast, maybe a post or two a week per character.
You don’t need to post a character sheet or anything, once approved, you can start with your intro. The roleplay starts shortly after the pirate raid on the Mary Celeste, and will follow the rough storyline set out until after the pirate captain dies. Then I’ll let it go wherever it may go.

Captain Briggs watched on helplessly as the pirates looted his ship, not that there was anything much of worth to them. The little gold he kept in his private quarters was quickly discovered and added to their loot. Most of the ship’s cargo however, 1700 barrels of industrial alcohol, methanol, was left untouched. Several pirates had tried to drink it; thinking it for rum, and received a heavier blow than they bargained for.
Already three of his crew had been executed as they put up a brave, but futile, resistance to the pirates. The remaining four had abandoned ship as soon as they saw the battle turning against them. Captain Briggs held nothing against them, who could not help but to fear death? The pirate captain emerged from the Mary Celeste’s lower decks, satisfied that what could be looted, had been looted.
“All right mates, get you and yer loot off deck on the double!” The pirate captain barked. Captain Briggs was shoved along, bound and gagged, into a small rowing boat. Two pirates went in with him. From their attire, he guessed one of them was the ship’s first mate. They quickly undocked from the Mary Celeste. Captain Briggs looked back one last time as the pirates left his ship to the ocean. He shook his head, losing one’s ship is never easy for a captain.
The pirate’s ship loomed ahead. Contrary to the popular notion, the pirate ship seemed to be in good condition, better than some of the British navy’s own ships. Her sails were in perfect working order and the decks had been swabbed clean three times over. A full crew of pirates were hard at work on the ship, many of them somewhat disciplined and orderly. If he had met them under different circumstances, he would have admired their spirit.
Still, for now he was their prisoner.
