Lorraine gasped. "Aerisa! Wait, don't hurt her! She doesn't mean any harm!"
"I don't, I swear!" whispered Gemina, trying not to flinch as the blade touched her neck. "But...I would gladly help you out. I promise. Please spare me."
The mage nodded to Aerisa. "Let go of her," the redheaded human said calmly. "If she does anything wrong at all, I will be the first to punish her. And mind you, not a few Astralliens have been known for extremely fiery tempers underneath their stoic exteriors."
Gemina shuddered. "Please," she said again. "I'll come. I really will."

((I read the Bloids. Don't y'all start clawing me at once, ladies. I know you can't resist me s:3 *maul'd*))
"Let her go, Aerisa," Artemis growled. "She hasn't done anything to us but offer to heal me and Divna." When the female Morpho didn't respond he snapped back with an irritated bark. "Forget her and concentrate on getting all of us out of here! Don't you want to get your sister to safety? He made a gesture for her to lead on.

Divna bent down and grabbed Gemina's hand while the other cradled the tiny kitten. "It's okay they're nice when they aren't mean." she smiled brightly pulling the woman along following quickly after Artemis. They'd barely traveled out of view of the hospital whne Divna began to feel sleepy and hugged Gemina's arms and walked along lazily half-napping on the half-elf. "You smell like Rileth when she's nice." the elfling murmured sleepily. Curiously Nini crawled form her mistress' pack and lept onto the woman's shoulder and startled pawing at her ear.

Lorraine glanced at Gemina and Aerisa, ready to break the two up in case they started another row. "What'd he say this time?" asked the mage.
Meanwhile, Gemina looked down and saw Divna leaning against her, and she seemed to be asleep. Smiling, the half-elf gently pried her off and lifted her into her arms, cuddling the young elf as though she were a daughter and saying, "I hope that was a compliment." Gingerly, Gemina reached up as well while clutching Divna in one arm and scratched the kitten's ears carefully so she didn't accidentally push Nini off.
"Okay, you can ride there, little one. I don't mind," she said to the kitten before looking at Lorraine and dropping her voice. "Thanks for sticking up for me back there. I hate it when people accuse me of being bad. By the way, I'd ask this elfling her name, but I'd rather not disturb her."
"Divna," replied Lorraine. "And you could call her kitten Nini. But what do you mean, accused of being bad?"
"My parents were executed for murder," said Gemina simply. "My father was human; my mother was an elf. They killed a vendor at a nearby market because he tried to kidnap me, but unfortunately that vendor had lots of important allies, and they sentenced my mom and dad to die by hanging. Then I was placed in the care of my aunt and uncle. They weren't even real murderers...they only wanted to protect me."
"Well, at least you had the closest thing to having real parents," remarked the full-human mage. "Did things get better?"
Gemina shook her head. "My aunt and uncle were no better. Trust me, you wouldn't want to hear about them. I was better off with my good friend Ronan, in the hospital. He's pure human, like you, Lorraine. Definitely better than any family I ever had. I wondered if he could be somehow related to me, but all my research results turn up negative."
The redheaded woman frowned thoughtfully. "I'm sorry," she said, patting Gemina on the shoulder. "I just got...curious, I guess."
The nurse could only nod, and she tried to smile again, like the smile she had given Divna and Nini, but the corners of her mouth just turned down and stayed that way.

((being with my grandma for some days = very happy times <3 ))
Aerisa walked next to Gemina, having removed her knife long before, but still keeping it close. For all SHE knew, this Gemina could, very easilly, be a spy. She had showed up immediatly after Artemis had saved Divna. She could easilly have been sent by someone else. She shook her head.
"A half breed heh?" She muttered under her breath, smirking.

Artemis heard Aerisa's less than complementary remark but decided to hold his tongue. There would be better times to tick off the disagreeable Morpho later. "Come on, ask them to follow me," he said before walking right past Aerisa, picking a path that would hopefully lead them as far away from their pursuers as possible.

"Does Artemis want to follow us?" asked Lorraine, but she followed him anyway without waiting for an answer from anyone else. Gemina stayed close behind her, with Divna in her arms and Nini on her shoulder, glancing at Aerisa as though the Morpho would suddenly pounce on her once Lorraine had her back turned.

"Why should we botha goin' in there aft'r there obviously aren' any Morphos in there ta begin wit'?" Thak grunted making sure the bystanders had cleared. "Th' way I see i' we shoul' jus' ge' this one outta th' way then worry 'bout the res'." He started off in the direction that led out of Ferryn Shilas. "'Sides. I don' think it'll be too plesan' if she wakes up." ***** Divna cooed lightly in her sleep completely undaunted by the tense dialogue surrounding her. The elfling dreamed peacefully of thousands of smiling white kittens singing little songs. In the dim light of the setting sun none of her companions would have noticed the translucent silvery scales that were beginnig to appear on her arms and cheek.

Gerard shrugged, shifting Rileth's rope-bound, unconscious body in his arms. "It's Khestrel's idea," he grumbled sagely. "And what are we supposed to do with THIS, eh? If we leave dear Rileth around, she could start pointing her dirty little fingers at us and have us captured if anyone finds her and wakes her up. This isn't working!" The thief's temper was rising again.
~*~*~*~
"Gemina...where are you?"
It shouldn't take this long to find and take care of a fox...or at least, bring it back here, thought the black-haired man as he stared out through the window of the hospital. His bluish-black eyes were reflected on the glass, along with his somewhat aquiline nose and pouting lips. Ronan was worried. Gemina had felt like a sister to him, from that day they found her one stormy night...and they realized that she was homeless and needed a job...
Ronan balled his hands into fists, digging his nails into his palms. He wanted to just run out there and find the beautiful, intelligent half-elf, half-human nurse who meant so much to him, but there was no telling when a situation would come up and he would have to part with the window. And he couldn't just tell his colleagues outright that Gemina was out there...it would mean utter discord if he did.

"You know... I'm a half breed too." Aerisa turned her head in dirrection of Gemina, still smirking. "My mom hated humans, and decided to have a little 'fun' with one, one day. HAH! I think that's the decision she regreted the most in her whole life! When she saw she was pregnant..." She giggled. "Just remembering the face she made when she told the story to me is priceless! I don't dare thinking what the original face was like!"
She kicked a rock on the ground. "It just a shame I never got to know my dad... Maybe if he had been there, I wouldn't have turned like mom, after all..." She pretty much ignored Lorraine, lost in her thought...

"My mom really fell in love with my father, even though she knew that he was human and she wasn't," remarked Gemina timidly. "And to be perfectly honest, I'm rather proud to be a half-breed, to have the heritage of both humans and elves." She paused for a moment and added, "Although there was this one time I was teased by full-humans when I was little...okay, it was more than one time..."
Lorraine sighed. "They were probably not used to half-elves," she said assuringly. "But there's nothing wrong with not being a pure human, just as there's nothing wrong with being pure."
"If only you could meet Ronan," replied Gemina. "I bet he and you will get along really well. Plus, he's also a healer, but he's more into potions, not too much into the magic that you do."
~*~*~*~
Back at the hospital, Ronan was getting more impatient and more worried by the second. Although he had pried himself off the window and decided to get back to work, fearing that if he stayed there too long, his colleagues would start asking questions he wouldn't be able to answer without causing trouble.
He was sorely tempted to sneak off and drag Gemina back inside, but he couldn't think of a good excuse.
"Ouch!" And as he thought of all these things, he accidentally cut his finger instead of the roots he had been chopping up. Putting the knife away and sucking his hurt finger, he silently cursed his carelessness.

He wanted them all, he really did, but Khestrel knew that if Rileth were to suddenly wake up he'd rather it to be within the Selbaden Church surrounded by his brothers than in the wilderness with a mangy orc and a sneaky half elf. Then an idea hit him and he stopped abruptly, spinning to face the others. "You both present excellent ideas," he admitted, the corners of his mouth twitching. "We should get this dangerous Morpho --" he beckoned towards Rileth "-- to the Church. My brothers can take care of her better. They are experienced in dealing with Morphos," he added in Gerard's direction. "Come on. Let us return to Zeromus."
As he strode past, he whispered to Thak, "To claim your reward."
Yes, they'd return to the Church of Selbaden and deposit the troublesome Rileth. The Church would think she was the one who caused the disturbance and be satisfied with their live catch.
Then, he'd go after the rest and kill them.
~*~*~*~
Artemis sniffed the air and smiled. "Looks like we lost them back there," he said to himself. He turned to face Aerisa. "I can't smell those scumbags any more. Now, where exactly is the way to the Great Dragon?" While he was saying that, his eyes darted in all directions. "But first allow me to morph back," he said with a sheepish grin, scurrying off behind a nearby tree to revert back to human form.
It wasn't like it was embarassing or anything. He just didn't like to make others uncomfortable.

Thak could barely supress a grin at the hushed reminder of his reembursment. "Alrigh' then in tha' case I don' see a point' 'n makin' ou'selves known 'n 'ere more than we 'ave already. Gerard, 'urry up with th' brod." The orc rather hurriedly began to strut towards the nearest gathering of trees then stopped dead in his tracks taking a long hesitation. "Er guys?..." he muttered turning his head this way and that. "'ow d'we ge' outta this dump?" ***** Divna's eyes suddenly shot open and darted her head around at the others like an owl in a field saturated with mice and other squeaking morsels. "Great Dragon? You mean we're finally going? Yay! This is going to be so exciting! Nana Laila always told me stories but I didn't think it was real! Why aren't we going faster people?!" The elfling lept from Gemna's arms and began pulling at the arms of Aerisa and Adeesa and pulling them forward along with her.

"You know, we can just pick a path and keep going and going till we find someone to ask for directions," suggested Gerard, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "And I'm not my cousin's keeper, so can we hurry it up a bit?"
~*~*~*~
"Ah, so that is your real form, Artemis?" asked Gemina curiously after making sure Divna wasn't hurt when she leapt from the nurse's arms. "I really thought you were a fox back there, when I saw you from the hospital."
"No big deal," said Lorraine. "And you know, Divna's got a point. Why don't we quicken our pace? I'm just as excited as she is."
"Sounds fun," commented Gemina. Although her smile faded slightly when she thought of her colleagues looking for her, she instantly straightened it up when the mage glanced at her.
~*~*~*~
Thankful that his shift was finally over after whipping up a batch of potion used to treat burns, Ronan walked out of the hospital, his cut finger bandaged and his mind set once again on finding Gemina. He decided to try following the path she took, muttering as a nearby thorny bush took its toll on his shirt, leaving a long rip.
But somewhere in the clearing, he heard voices. Hoping to find Divna, he pursued them, listening and making sure he was on what he assumed to be the trail. As he ducked behind a large, thornless bush, he could see someone with a long brown ponytail and elfish ears turned away from him.
Ronan tried to stifle a gasp, but it was too late.

"I agree with the elf. I am sure if we keep going straight we can get to the end of the woods," Khestrel replied sarcastically. "There should be a lot of people willing to help a half-elf carrying a Morpho?" He neglected to mention Thak because he thought the orc pretty much got the idea. "But you idea is as good as any. Let us move."
~*~*~*~
Artemis was taken aback as he returned from behind the tree. "You're not, well, scared of me or anything?" he asked Gemina incredulously. Sure, Lorraine was simply curious and Divna was too young to be prejudiced but one of the elves of Ferryn Shilas? Well, third time's the charm as the old street gamblers chant goes. Maybe it wasn't so bad after all, being a Morpho that is.
He cleared his throat and went on. "True what Divna said." He turned to Aerisa and Adeesa. "So where to next?"
