Harry spoke up. "It seems, me being from it, I know more about the wizarding world than any of you," he said. "What Claus said was true. Hang on, let me think of if there is a countercurse." He thought for a moment. (Okay, I've just read some of the book, and saw no countercurse for the Cruciatus Curse. Am I missing anything?)

((I don't think so.... as far as I know there's no countercurse to the Unforgivable Curses. *thinks* I think the only way people in the books escaped was either just dodging or casting the disarming spell.))

"From what I remember, there's no countercurse," said Harry. "And if there is any, it must take some really powerful magic." (It actually makes it easier that nearly everyone here has read HP.)

(I think when I read HP, I saw something about someone who cast the Cruciatus Curse mutter a countercurse to lift the spell. I think only the Killing Curse has no countercurse. Yeah, I read all 5 books, plus Artemis Fowl and Series of Unfortunate Events.)
Violet nodded to Harry. "He's right," she said, looking at Klaus.
"But what can we do?" asked the thirteen-year old boy, taking off his glasses and wiping them. "Like I said, the Cruciatus Curse is one powerful bit of magic that takes a lot of experience and willpower to cast." Klaus stared at his sister, who began to tie up her hair in a ribbon again. "Violet, not that I doubt your inventing skills, but I don't know if anything you invent can do anything unless you have some magic components."
She sighed, her smile fading.

Opal watched carefully. She was unarmed except for her own magic, which meant it wouldn't be wise to make any hasty moves. After all, Holly had her Neutrino gun, and Butler was dangerous whether or not he was armed at all. She took one step closer and thought about Voldemort again. Yes, this definitely was a human she could work with... if he was properly mesmerized. Unfortunately, she had no idea how he could have vanished so quickly. She decided to wait and bide her time.
Holly glanced at Kyp. "I'm not sure that this will work, but it might ease the pain a little," she said. She landed and crouched by her side, placing her hands on Kyp's side. "Heal," she whispered, and blue sparks of magic scurried down her fingers.

Klaus stroked his chin, watching the sparks on Kyp's side. "I forgot," he mused to himself. "Captain Short's kind have magical healing powers. I've read about them in a book on fairies some time ago."
"I just hope it does something good," said Violet anxiously, retying her ribbon, keeping it away from her eyes. "If it doesn't...I hope I can think of something too."

"If nothing else, it'll probably wear off eventually," said Harry. "The curse is non-lethal, and I don't think that Kyp can be killed anyway."

((Sorry! My computer is posessed by demons! I dunno how often I can get on from now on. Pretend Kyp was just... er... stunned or something.)) Kyp looked up at Harry. "My dislike of your wizarding magic has increased dramatically. It's powerful stuff. Can't even remember the last time someone hurt me with magic." She turned to Holly. "Thanks for the effort. I can heal myself, so you don't need to bother with that anymore."
You have a way? Then out with it, the voice demanded.

Voldemort grinned. "I don't suppose you've heard of Dementors?" said Voldemort. "They have the ability to steal the very soal. Being alive without one might be even worse than death itself, if that is possible."

The voice seemed to think about this for a while. I don't see why that wouldn't work. And that would be much worse than death; you show some potential. Good.

"I know a curse that can control minds," said Voldemort. "I believe I might be able to use it to make a Dementor go after the witch."

Holly stood back up. "That's a relief," she said. "Healing really is the most tiring magic skill. I don't envy healers at all."
Opal was watching her enemies, her eyes glittering viciously. She could just imagine what she could do once she had that human under her control... she almost chuckled as she thought of Holly's moans under such torture, finally getting revenge on that insufferable centaur Foaly, and Artemis writhing and screaming in agony. But she was getting ahead of herself, and her plans had a tendency to go awry when that happened. Seeing Harry's wand, the pixie shielded to get a closer look. She wanted to know everything she could find out about this magic, or technology, or whatever it was.

Harry took off his glasses and whiped them for a moment, thinking he saw a blur on them. When he put the glasses back on, his eyes were away from the shielded pixie, and therefore he thought that it was just something on his glasses before.

Violet stared at Harry. "What's wrong? You seem kind of worried." She saw him take off his glasses all of a sudden. The teenage inventor looked around warily, trying to see what was going on around her surroundings.

"It was just something on my glasses," said Harry. "Nothing to be alarmed about."
