Yu Jie moaned and put a hand to her forehead. Her head ached horribly as she tried to remember what had happened.

She opened her eyes and sat up. Looking around, she tried to figure out where she was, but, just as her memory of the last events before she was knocked out, she didn't recognize this setting.

It was when she set her eyes on Raynaer that it hit her. She'd been called out of the sitting room to meet some Anistawn Lord. He was the one who'd been supposed to escort her to him, but as far as she remembered, there had been no Lord. Just this Maid Prefect and a dagger he used to knock her unconscious.

"Where did you take me...?" her voice was quiet and polite, but inside she felt like slapping him for doing whatever he'd done to her. Of course, Sakuyan ladies were absolutely not supposed to show such lack of self-control, especially not the princess herself, and she had been raised knowing that extremely well. It had now become a reflex to be polite at all times, even when she was fuming. "And, most of all, why?"

((Outside. Shrouded in fog, and a light rain falling.))

Raynaer grimaced.

"Ah... as you can tell, I'm no servant. In fact, I came to assassinate you." He put on his most winning smile. It actually came out well, as far he could tell, though the princess didn't flicker an eyelash. "But as you can tell, I changed my mind. Of course, I'd probably be hanged just for lying to you, so... here we are."

Yu Jie sighed. "So you were going to kill me but you changed your mind. And then you decided to kidnap me, so I couldn't tell Mother and Father what happened and therefore not get you in trouble...?"

"Perceptive, aren't we?" replied Raynaer with a grin. Of course, there was also the matter of Ikiun and the phantom voice in his head, but he didn't want Yu Jie to think he was completely insane. Well, not that soon, anyway.

"So... ah... Your Majesty..." In the name of Amari, what now? "We're... ah... heading for Anistawn. And though I'm not trying to kill you or anything" - unless that phantom voice lost to Ikiun - "I don't want to be hung. And I don't think you'll vouch for me, and even if you do, the King and Queen probably won't give a fig. So, we have to go. Sorry."

"So he will ask the strongest mortals for help. And together, they will defeat Ikiun." Dachiu told his Twin, kneeling and looking down at the man and the dragon.

"Are you sure this will work, Brother?" asked Daiura, tucking a strand of her curly blonde hair behind her ear and looking up at the well-built, tan-skinned man that was Elden. She was sitting beside her Twin, Dachiu, also staring down at the two mortals. "I mean, you have chosen people of different Kingdoms. Who says they will not fight with each other, instead of defeating Ikiun?"

"It will work, trust me. And if it doesn't, well, it won't be my problem, it'll be the mortals'." replied Elden, staring down at the two twins.

"Ah, but you forget, dear Brother, that we are going against Ikiun, not trying to end some puny mortal war." said a young lady sitting a few meters away from them. She was Timuna, goddess of intelligence.

"Yes, dear Sister." replied Elden, "But Ikiun depends on his mortal pawns. If all mortals are killed, he will be powerless against us."

"But if he gathers enough forces, these mortals will not give us any more offerings, and we will be weak against him." she pointed out.

"Shush, you two!" exclaimed Dachiu. "The man is waking up!"

Royal Palace, Menefer, Sakuya Island

"Why do you want to do so...?" asked the servant, suspicious.

Woods near the Castle, Anistawn

Zach rode as fast as he could, not stopping to see if Thaine was following. In fact, he was trying to get as far away from his Bodyguard as possible.

"I have information about the storm and something secret of great importance to tell them," Dydri lied. "I was instructed to tell only them."

Raynaer snarled. "Usually, when you're sent to assassinate someone, you don't let them live. Count your blessings, princess."

Usually, when Ikiun talks to you, you die of fright, he noted morosely. He hadn't intended to be so rude, but those voices in his head were really starting to sink in. He could've sworn the second one was a woman.

"Come on. Time to get moving."

Ikiun's Realm ((The Demon Realms?^-^;;)

Ikiun threw the bone goblet across the flaming cavern. Flaming because he was angry. Furious, in fact.

His accursed wife had gotten to that boy. How?! And his children were now plotting, as well. He was not blind, not matter what they thought. (( the gods are his kids, right? If they're Amari's, they're his... I think o0 )) Amari could not have them! She could not! That would undo everything. At least the girl didn't know her power. And the boy was still blind to his gift. That could save him. It could.

All that mattered now was the boy and that rotten little girl died. If they joined him before then, good, but otherwise, they would die. And to begin the hunt, Llyans.
