"What's wrong with you? Besides the normal stuff, I mean." Clint half-joked to a rather depressed looking Vyt who just joined him and Arista in the kitchen. Although sometimes a little eccentric, Vyt rarely looked unhappy, and when he did, it was never a good thing.

Vyt half-ignored both Arista and Clint and started munching on a loaf or two. "You know, I've got this feeling that something wrong's going to happen. Whatever it is," he half-consciously uttered. The incident in Takehiko's headquarters was long over, but his mind kept refreshing the sight of Dum's uniform severely-tattered and covered with weird ashes. The smell of the officer's blood did not leave his nose, and continued giving harsh itches whenever Vyt reminisced about Dum.
Vyt sat down beside Arista and continued nibbling on bread. He'd usually stuff his mouth full and force himself not to throw up, but he was rather different.

It took a few minutes for the sound of Hades' knocking to reach Elycien's ears. Distracted, she shook her head. "What was that?" She walked to the door and opened it, her mind still on the unorthodox letter they'd received. Not many missions were worded like that... Ah, well. Alerid could take a look at it. Shaking her head, her mind suddenly registered who she was talking to you. "Oh, Hades. Welcome back."

Bills.
The one word Scarven hated right now and yet there it was staring back at him, and from more than one sheet of paper too.
Scarven pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed. The Mercenaries were in debt. Again, and not for the last time too, he said to himself.
Leaning back in his swivel chair, dog tags (the irony did not escape the anthropomorphic feline's grasp) jingling on the necklace around his neck, he took a quick survey of his small, messy office at the back of the HQ. Almost immediately his gaze fell upon the Mouser V1, his railgun sniper rifle, and realized just how long it had been since he'd last used it.
"Y'know, I could take up my old job again to pay off the bills," Scarven said to himself after a moment. Elycien probably wouldn't be too pleased though, he added mentally.
He heard the commotion outside his office, conveniently placed just opposite Elycien's, and moved to check what the hubbub was about. Unfortunately, his foot got snagged on a table leg and he nearly fell flat on his face.
Nearly. Cats always land on their feet and, in Scarven's case, hands after all. Papers however do not, and a stack of them came careening down on top of him. He soon extracted himself from the pile, swiping today's newspaper off the top of his head with a grumble. His eyes soon widened as he glanced at the headlines, followed soon after by a large grin.
Money!
"Elycien!" Scarven shouted, barging through his door and almost running into Hades. He waved the headlines in their surprised faces. "War, Elycien, war! We're gonna make a fortune playing both sides again!"
And pay the bills too, he didn't say.

Shoving the letter out of her mind, Elycien turned to Scarven. "What's this?" She snatched the paper from him and scanned it quickly, and then grinned as she shoved it back to him. "Excellent. Suppose I'd better go finish checking the requests Alerid left me this morning to see if one side or the other is hiring... if not..." She shrugged. "Honestly, when has that ever stopped us?"
She glanced at Hades. "You'd better go let Fenrix know that..." She trailed off as she remembered that he'd been the one to knock on her door, knowledge that had been momentarily shoved out of her mind by the promise of cash. "Oh yeah. Sorry... what did you need me for?"

Hades didn't mind the amount of time Elycien took to open the door. Not much, at least. She had enough other things to do that it made sense that it'd take a bit to get around to a polite knock. Once she opened the door and finished talking, he said, "Yes, I'm-" back, he was about to say, when Scarven came rushing out from his office, waving a piece of paper in their faces and yattering about war.
Hades sighed, stepping back and out of the way while Elycien read whatever it was that Scarven had found. Once she looked up and towards him, he started paying more attention. "Yes, I'll go tell Fenrix about this. And I was orginally just going to tell you that someone came knocking and asking if they could join. But this is more important." Already, Hades was starting to walk off, heading towards the woods, where he suspected Fenrix would be. If she wasn't, he probably would've picked up her scent by now.

Arista put her head on Vyt's shoulder. "Vyt, what's wrong? Talk to me." She played with the end of his tail that she still had in her hands.

Clint thought he had heard some commotion down the hall. Since Vyt and Arista both had better hearing than him, he had no doubt they had heard it too. "I'm going to go see what that's about." He set down the box of crackers on a counter and walked out of the kitchen, making his way to Elycien's office.
He found Scarven there, holding a newspaper excitedly. Clint didn't really know much about the Mercenaries' landlord, mostly that he's former military, and has one heck of a sniper rifle in his office. Clint needed to ask if he could borrow that sometime. "What's up?" He asked the two, although he already read the newspaper. War.
"You know, I've got this feeling that something wrong's going to happen." Vyt's words echoed in Clint's mind. War is the perfect setting for things to go wrong, as Clint knew well.

Worry surrounding Arista further prevented Vyt from answering back. It was the unexplainable mutual bond between each other that stopped him from being a problem to her. The warmth of her presence somehow made the pain of losing Dum a bit neutralized, if not removed completely.
"War, Elycien, war! We're gonna make a fortune playing both sides again!"
Scarven's shout of joy was just the distraction Vyt needed.
"Oops, I think we'll be called to the meeting room anytime soon," Vyt stood up and let out a rather fake smile. Nonetheless, he should go and meet Scarven before anyone else.
He needed a time away from the tombstone of Dum.

Scarven grinned and rolled up the newspaper. "I'll spread the word," he said, striding off down the hallway and knocking on each door he passed loudly, calling. "Everyone to the common room! Hop to it!"
Far from waiting for the others to follow, he quickly entered the living room, gingerly stepping over the mess the other mercs had left behind. Not even that could spoil his good mood, as evidenced by his happily wagging black tail. He soon settled down in a chair at the head of the table in the centre of the room, tapping the rolled up newspaper against his hip as he waited for the rest

" Hey Gumdrop or whatever your name is if you want to join you might want to go to the meeting." Cyborg stated as he, Midknight and Shado walked in to the HQ.
" What now? New job, someone leaving?" Miknight asked.

Hades ignored Scar, continuing on his path outside. Sniffing, he caught Fenrix's scent and began following it, weaving through trees until he found the one she was at. "Scarven and Elycien are calling a meeting," he said as soon as he drew close enough for her to hear him. "Scarven found a war for us to play off of." Pausing just within sight of her, he smiled. "Should be fun, don't you think?"

Fenrix grinned and looked down at him. "Sounds delicious. Not another vampire I hope?" She jumped fully down from the tree and stretched like a cat. "You've been practicing. I can smell you all over the forest, don't try too hard. You don't want to tap out your reserves just yet." She nibbled her lower lip, thinking over his words.
"War is on the horizon. Again? Jeez. But if it means more coin in our pockets, I'm not opposed to it."

"I wasn't really listening to the details, so I can't say," Hades said. "And I wasn't trying to do anything other than get away from all the boredom." Hades swept a hand through his hair, which he'd been letting grow longer since he'd become a vampire. "But by now, what with Scarven being as excited as he was, I suspect that he's gotten most, if not all, of the mercs gathered. We should join them."
So saying, he turned, retracing his steps until he got back to the HQ, and finding his way to where Scarven waited. The living room. Of course Scarven would choose one of the messiest, though most convinient, places to hold his meeting. With a little shake of his head, Hades settled against one of the walls, not really wanting to sit down just yet.

Jernath was still sitting on the living room sofa when Scarven came bounding happily into the room. Jernath raised an eyebrow. This wasn't the kind of mood the cat usually seemed to be in. There must have been some pretty darn good news, he figured. (He hadn't really been paying enough attention to the shouts in the other room enough to know about the war)
"So what's going on?" he asked whoever would answer first. Likely Scarven, though possibly Hades, who had just entered the room. It didn't really matter.
