"I'd have to know at least some of the specifics of the hardware, and related firmware, so I would know what to make and how to interface it. But yes, with time, I'm sure I could adapt it."
It was about then that the waiterbot came back to the table, carrying a tray. It gave the sandwiches to Bacon and Ethan (who promptly dug in) and then looked toward the others.
"Nothing for me, thank you," was Hoshikira's request.

"Just as I said, no one ever takes a winged fourteen-millenia-old with notoriously unstable genetics and serious personality issues seriously. Even if they could do, they don't. When I was a kid, patronism. In the Undercircle, more patronism. Kiy, that was annoying." Zari drummed her fingers on the table, irritated at the mere memory. "You can threaten some people with a kitchen cleaver and they'll still believe you're harmless as a fluffy bunny. Wait, I take that back. Fluffy bunnies are scary things." Shuddering, she opened the book she had previously whacked Fraze with and began to read it...upside down.
"No seriously? I did not see that one coming. Did so not." she thought aloud, turning the book right way around. The title was in Illhvrenan, as was the text, but the disjointed muttering usually tied in with it was, for once, in english.

Amneiger looked at the object Hoshikira gave to Ethan. It looked like a standard transmitter; not particularly suspicious. He'd look up the list of submitted project proposals later. Of more immediate interest was the way Ethan had reacted when Hoshikira had tried to plug in the device; some reflexive remnant of his memory? Or just a desire to be careful with his implants? Amneiger filed it away.
"Macaroni with ham in broth, please."

Bacon started eating his sandwich happily, only half listening to what the others were saying.

ZOC impudently led his commanding officer into the dimly lit room. Catching sight of their contact, he smiled maliciously. "You must be this 'Hrothgar' I've heard so much about. It's a pleasure to meet you. My name is Vaike of Huuji, although I prefer to be called ZOC. This is my colleague and 'superior' officer, Vedrik of Kinea."
Vedrik simply nodded. He wasn't sure at all what this Togorian fellow was like, and he didn't have anything to add to what ZOC already said. As much as he hated to admit it, he'd have to rely on Captain Vaike's negotiating skills for the time being.

"Zari, I try not to take anything seriously. I may have only lived for a six-hundredth or so as long as you, but I've already learned that taking things too seriously is bad for your health." With that, Fraze took another bite of his sandwich, now about half-finished.
Chewing ruminously for a few moments, he started speaking again. "What projects have you all been working on? Seems like you mad scientist types are always making something new. Amneiger, any news on trying to clone my suit?"

"I haven't had a great deal of progress yet, but I did make this." Amneiger took the glass box out of his pocket and put it on the table.
In the box was something that looked like a small fly. It crawled up and down the walls of the box, occasionally tapping one side and rubbing its feet together.
"First of all, tell me what you see."

Hrothgar grunted as he sized up the other two. Togorian officers were chosen based on their combat abilities, which in the Togorian forces usually meant trading strategic abilities for brute strength, and he wasn't certain the Latekans could measure up. Whatever; even he knew better than to offend somebody who was offering a deal.
"You said you can help with Spacefleet," Hrothgar said, not bothering to introduce himself. He looked at Vaike as he waited for the Latekan to go on.

"I see an ugly little insect. Wait a second..." Bacon leaned closer to the box, trying to get a better look, "That's not a robotic bug, is it?" It wasn't so much an observation as a guess. Remote surveillence units disguised as insects had been rumored to exist for decades, but up until he joined Spacefleet, Bacon hadn't met anybody with the right technical skills to actually design and construct one.

Vaike smiled, "I think I have a proposal that's mutually beneficial. We Laketans are building a battleship, a Fenris Class battleship, and it's still got some ways to go, but if we introduce Togorian sheilds and weaponry, as well as a few other special touches, it will become so powerful that not a force in the universe will be able to stop it."

Hoshikira looked at the waitorbot. "I may try to make a more… interactive version of that, perhaps an upgrade. Although many of my projects right now relate to researching, and developing new things." She looked at the fly. If that is a machine, I'd like to study it.
Ethan just continued to munch, looking at the box.

"Looks like one of any number of species of insects of the order Diptera, or some non-Earth counterpart," Fraze said in a joking attempt to sound needlessly wordy. "Anyway, I agree with Bacon--it could be a spy camera. Still, it just looks like a fly to me. If it's robotic, I have to compliment you for how well-built it is." Fraze finished the last few bites of his sandwich, and took a long drink of lemonade.

Amneiger smiled. "Yup, it's a survillance robot. I've been wanting to build one for a while now, and I wanted to make sure that it actually looked like an insect."

"Yeah? What kind of shields and weaponry?" Hrothgar wasn't quite sure what a Latekan Fenris battleship was like, but he didn't want to look stupid right now.

"That it does. If you hadn't seemed so interested in it, I would have gotten a fly swatter." Bacon said, looking as closely as he could at the tiny robot. "Is it modelled after a specific insect, or an original design? And what did you use for the wings?"

"Well, let's just say that while our ships are intimidating, they're not as good as they appear in combat situations. Most of them are unsheilded and have minimal weaponry for their class. I'm sure if Togorian engineers were to work on it, they could apply their knowledge of ships to give it sheilds and make it more heavily armed." Vaike replied, sincerely hoping the Togorian would agree before asking more questions.
Vedrik noted that Vaike had known about the behemoth ship's construction when even he did not. The Fenris Class battle cruiser was almost legendary, and even now it was being constructed. It was said that in size, it would be larger than ten Lupis Class cruisers like the Rocht Dianlune combined.
((As a side note, Laketan battlecruisers have three sizes: Vulpis, Lupis, and Fenris. Vulpis is the smallest, being about 4/5s the mass of a Lupis Class, and I've already stated the size of a Fenris class earlier in my post. The names for the classes come from the scientific names for fox and wolf, as well as the name of a mythical wolf of massive size.))

Fraze felt out of his league, surrounded by scientists and engineers. "A spy camera like that could have come in very useful in some of the missions I went on before coming to the 'Fleet," he mused. "Is it remote controlled, mind-operated, or independently functioning?"
((Fun fact: I'm actually a Physics and Mathematics major IRL, which makes it difficult not to have RP-Fraze babble sciency with the rest of the 'Fleeters.))

"I used diagrams from a entomology textbook. The wings are made out of the same film bubble wrap is made of, which doesn't really matter since I'm using a heavily scaled down hover engine for it. It's mostly autonomous, but you can give it orders remotely to examine certain areas or things more closely."

Hrothgar nodded, since it didn't look like he was going to be quizzed on military knowledge he didn't understand anytime soon. "And the special touches? What do those mean?"
((Entomology is the field of science that deals with insects. And I'm actually an English major, so all of my technobabble is layman's knowledge and Tvtropes. xD))

"That's pretty cool." Bacon said, before adding, "What's the subject, current projects? I just finished rebuilding X-3. I upgraded engines and weapons, so he should be pretty good in a dogfight. All the systems look green, but I haven't actually tested any of his new functionality."

"Well, I don't know the details, I'm afraid, but surely there are several more ways your technology is superior to ours." Vaike noted that so far he hadn't heard the question he had been expecting, and dreading: 'What do I get out of this deal?'
