I've been thinking about maybe getting some uniforms designed for spacefleet. A set of them. They would be mostly for ceremonial purposes with the imperial theme music blasting at full 'cause I know a lot of people want to be able to personalize their character, but it's an option if you want to run around in matching outfits.
I was also thinking that we could open it up into a contest. Kinda a Project Runway- Spacefleet style! (note: Project Runway= another one of those reality shows where people are competing to be the next big name in (insert proffesion here). In this case it's fashion design.)
Idealy you could submit as many designs as you want, or as few as you want. There'd be about a month to complete them. They could be combat uniform, one of those cloth uniforms that are overly decorated for ceremony, kicking around the training feild uniforms, pilot uniforms, officer uniforms, whatever pops into your head. Or maybe even a collection.
The only criteria is that it has to have the spacefleet badge somewhere on it. Be it really big and stretched over the chest, or a little badge on the sleeve.
There would then be a voting stage. Depending on the outcome it may go straight to poll or we might have a nomination stage.
I want to get peoples opinions on it first before I set this up.

I personally don't believe in the same uniforms for eveybody since most people have different jobs, but it might work on some level. I'll stick with my white flightsuit when piloting though. Thank you. I'll be sure to help in any way possible.

Yea, I don't want the same uniforms for everyone. I'm proposeing a line of uniforms, but want everyone to have a chance to contribute.

Well maybe it could be a jumpsuit thing, you know, so you could wear it all with decorative capes and junk, zip it down halfway for relaxation, or completely not wear it sometimes.

Well maybe the general design could be the same... kinda like the uniforms in Star Trek... but make tweaks to them, depending on rank (like colour, badges and other accessories).
=3
Sounds like a spiff idea, Keng ^_^

But, yeah I really like that idea of doing basics for each rank and sub-rank & then each person can personalize the basic suit to his/her preferences. My basic Cadet, I imagine, would probably look like this when I'm piloting a Mobile Suit. It probably won't be for every cadet since this would be specific, obviously: For a female (you can convert this to male) Cadet it might look like this: ((All borrowed art from DeviantArt.com by *wbd & EmeraldBeacon.))

Oh! I didn't mean 'do it -like- Star Trek'. It was more like a reference to a space uniform that I thought most people knew x)
I really like those two examples. Especially the male one!!! ^_^

I'll stick with my white flightsuit when piloting though. Thank you. I feel exactly the same way... except I don't have a flightsuit, just a leather jacket and regular civilian clothes. But my point is the same, even if we do get uniforms, I'll be wearing my jacket when I fly. But yes, a uniform that in design is more or less, well... uniform... is a good idea. Pilots/officers could be red, combat people could be green, and so on. Maybe not those exact colors, but still...

Zari can't wear uniform due to the fact all her clothes are made of specific material to allow for her wings. Since she can edit her own genetic makeup.
Specific colours is a bad idea. Say, somewhozawhatsits class got stuck with green, witch was (insertnames) least favourite colour.
A relatively neutral uniform in, say, black and white would work quite well, since both are neutral colours.

Yeah, I could get into grey-scale uniforms, although what about two fixed colors, like every single uniform is, for example, red and black, and the only difference is in the actual design. (i.e. The Officer uniform might have shoulder pads, the Merc. uniform might have bandoleers, other combat uniforms might have an armor-like texture, etc, etc.)

Or maybe uniforms aren't really required, so long as they wear some sort of visual identification that they are a Spacefleet member that also shows what class/rank they're in. Say, maybe they could have could have a generalized badge (like the little icon we have) and the part that shows what class/rank they are snaps on. Maybe the Officer class could have a small pair of wings for the 'Cadet' rank, and there could be something that snaps onto those wings that both adds a stripe of color and adds to the size to show higher rank. Maybe the Combat class could have small partial-circles with rings that expand outward, (to resemble a target) and maybe the Research class could have something that resembles molecules, maybe the Support class could have inward-pointing corner-things that resemble the medical cross. (there are just ideas for what could be used, of course) And of course, those would be able to snap off should the wearer decide to switch classes. (or if perchance they get demoted)
It doesn't have to just be badges. They could also have removable patches with a sticky backside. (kinda like the ones in Stargate) There's a lot of possibilities.

That's a good idea... although what do molecules look like? Maybe a beaker for Research class.
Btw... I always wondered about those patches on "Stargate"... About how they go from fully colored to jet black almost instantly.

Research class has subsections. So maybe some binary code for computers, some DNA spirals for Forescenics and Cloning, a spanner for Engineering, a test tube for Chemistry...

This is starting to sound complicated... who's gonna draw all these badges(assuming we use the badge idea)?
