With a five-to-three vote, Kestral has been decided as our name. Now, we must decide how we wish to say it!
This poll has ended! Either name is acceptable.* * * * * * * The Knights' Council is presently being decided upon by me, the King of Dunburrow. I shall be wise in my decisions and sometime in the near (or slightly not-so-near) future, I will decide upon my council and...anoint(?) my chosen knights whilst appointing them their new duties. * * * * * * * In the mean time, there are two other pressing matters to discuss:
First of these is the council. As I have now been voted king and will soon make it, er, official in the RP, I need a council. I have no idea right now how I should choose one, or what exactly the council's size or role shall be, so suggestion on all of these matters are appreciated (and encouraged). The next issue I wish to discuss is one of vanity (and just plain knightly fun): our country's coat of arms. I've done some quick research on Wikipedia about coats of arms, and they're pretty expansive. For the mean time, here's a brief idea of what we'll need to decide on: * tincture (one or two colors to form the field, or background, of the shield) * charges (emblems to be put on the shield, only a couple or so) * crest (top of the helmet) * helm (above shield, below crest) * motto (keep it short, and I know people who can translate English to Latin ^_^) * supporters (beings who hold up the shield) A good picture of all of this can be found by going here (another, if better, picture can be seen here). Giving thought to these matters now, we can vote and possibly design one later on. What would its use be? Not entirely sure... but it could be really fun! Of course, if no one wants one, we don't need to have one.* * * * * * * The next issue is a guild-wide issue. We have no present guild requirements. But... we need them, I guess, being a guild and all... As inspiration look at the other guilds' requirements below:
More suggestions or just a vote to go ahead with these would be appreciated. As with the resetting of the guilds, we have been given our own guild requirements. Ergo, there is no need to ponder upon this any longer. For reference, the guild requirements are: - Follow the rules of chivalry that guide noble knights - Have some kind of martial ability that would serve you in knightly combat - Provide your own sword, either for combat or for dress, if you don't use swords

[glow=teal,2,300]*would like to try to make the coat of arms* I need to know our emblem and what kind of supporters we have and what motto we have before I can try to make one. [/glow] That is why I have asked people to give suggestions on what the above should be. I have my own ideas, of course, but I want to hear everyone's ideas. After all, I might be king, but I'm surely not the only one playing.

I can make the motto or anything spiffy and Latin-sounding once we come up with one, if people would like that

I don't have any ideas for the motto, but I do have an idea for the shield: An Or kestrel rising on Sable and Vert, party per bend sinister. In case you don't want to look up what that means, a simple version is: A gold kestrel rising on a field of black and green, divided from top right to bottom left. And here's a link to the main Wikipedia article on heraldry.

[glow=teal,2,300]In Honoris aut Nihil (For honour or nothing) Dei Gratia Rex (By the Grace of God, King) Rex Illuminatio Nostra (The King is Our Light)
Calix meus inebrians (My cup makes me drunk) XD
My translations may or may not be perfect since I tried to learn words and phrases from Wikipedia. I like 'Rex Illuminatio Nostra'. :3 [/glow]

That's a good one. Habitamus Iustitiam (We live for justice/We are living for justice) Nostri Gladii Nostrum Regnum (Our swords for [to] our kingdom) Pugnare Illuminatio (We battle for light) For the coat of arms, there's a lot of different meanings for the colors--for example, blue means truth or loyalty, argent (silver/white) means peace and sincerity. www.fleurdelis.com/meanings.htm

Me likey "Calix meus inebrians." ^_^ lol. What about... "We Rise to Face Evil"? Or we could do something a bit more airy, like J. K. Rowlings did, "never tickle a sleeping dragon" ("Draco dormiens nuncuam titilandos," if I recall correctly). Whoa! Those sites are huge! I wish I had time to read 'em (I skimmed a bit, though, and learned a lot). I like the idea of Kestrels, though until now, I hadn't realised that it was a bird... I thought it was simply a cool-sounding word... *shies away in embarrassed shame* Anyways, looking at Wikipedia, I happen to like the coloring of the Greater Kestrel more than the other (see for yourself here, if you wish). I also rather light your put-forth idea, Shade, except I think Argent might prove better than Sable; looking at the symbolism for white and black, white (...or silver) is "peace or serenity" while black is "constancy or grief"; further, as this whole thing started with Shino, the White Knight, argent would, for me at least, seem more fitting. I also, personally, prefer party per bend over party per bend sinister (that is, from top-left to bottom-right, not top-right to bottom-left).

We Rise To Face Evil--Sugeremus Aspicio Malum
I'm not sure if 'Sugeremus' is translated correctly :/
EDIT: If you're shaky about using that translation, we can use 'Stamus'--We Stand.

If we're changing the colors, I like pupure and azure, party per bend, Or kestrel rising, armed argent. Armed means that the beak and claws would be silver.

Surgere Aspicio Umbras--To rise to face the shadows. I am uncertain as to how to exactly translate 'rise' without anything before it -_-''

My opinion: Motto(to which we live by): In Honoris aut Nihil (For honour or nothing) Arms Color: White (not because of me) or Green (because it means hope and our king is the Green Knight) Heraldic Lines and Ordinaries: Raguly Line Symmbol: Gyronny

Hmm...
Seeing as how the poll DID end four days ago...
And that the two names are equal in favor.
The names shall be interchangeable.
Nice suggestions, Sai(?). I think green is almost a unanimous vote...
