The idea of everyone listening to the king only really works in theory, and in your case it doesn't even work in practice. If it only works in theory, why would we expect it to work in practice? Huntress, you astound me. Anywho, that's why an NPC would be better: he can exist when needed, but otherwise, he can be in the background and we can get on with things just fine on our own. :) ...Yeah, like Shade said. And planning for the new roleplay is a good idea. Since there really isn't much for all of us to jump in and do until this one is wrapped up and buried, we might as well start discussing things now. Rather, you guys might as well start discussing things now. Should I send out a guild announcement that a new roleplay is in the works and hope it'll stoke some medieval flames? Or do you think it's unnecessary/futile/pointless?

Should I send out a guild announcement that a new roleplay is in the works and hope it'll stoke some medieval flames? Or do you think it's unnecessary/futile/pointless? The way I see it, we would need more than just a handful of ppeople, even at this early of a stage. It's so that we can be able to let everyone know that the guild has been revived and that we'll need the dire participation of everyone for it to be lively again. I say, go for the announcement. It's better that everyone realize about the new roleplay being in the works.

Well said, Vyt. Also, I think the knights might want to know that their beloved king may well be a new person, don't you? xD It'd be a bit of a shock if a horde of knights came back from their quests to find a stranger on the throne.
Question: Are there random NPC knights for RPs or just castle servants and stuff?

Anyone you want, Sarn. There's a brief list of some NPCs in the first post of the roleplay thread (most of which I will probably consolidate at the start of this thread, so Shade can just link people to it and such instead of putting it all in her new post), but you don't have to use all of them if you don't want to. Faceless NPCs are in perfect abundance.
Update: I've rearranged the opening posts of this thread and the present RP's thread as follow: The first post here now includes the roleplaying guidelines and intro for new roleplays/guild members and the verbal map of the kingdom for RP reference. The second post of this thread now includes all info about NPCs and community characters as well as summaries of all completed roleplays. The first post of the RP thread now includes only the roleplaying guidelines and the summary of the present roleplay as well as links to this thread for further information on the aforementioned topics.
It would be helpful, I feel, if future roleplays also contain links to this thread to get people started as well as, if possible, a running summary of that roleplay and a reminder of the RPing guidelines.

I'll probably post my next RP post either tomorrow (later today) or the day after. I foresee Wolf's last arc lasting perhaps another two or three posts at most before I end his saga for the time being, but I see no reason why the RP can't continue after that until the new one is started.
At which, shall I or shall I not send out a guild notification about planning the new one? Perhaps I should wait till Wolf's removed from the RP before I do that, so I can fully explain what's going on when I send it?
Update: I think the next post will be the last. I'll likely write it on Wednesday or Thursday since tomorrow I'm shopping for the rest of my supplies for Israel and over the weekend I've got some volunteer work to finish, then packing on Monday and leaving on Tuesday.
It'd be great to hear some feedback after all is said and done, though, so perhaps I'll try to get it up sooner than that. After all, I'm essentially changing the hierarchy of the guild itself here! xD
New update: Nope, wasn't the last. Two reasons: The first is that the two scenes in my latest post ended up being longer than I'd intended them to be (which might make my departure two more posts and not just one, we'll see) and the second is that I'm under a severe thunderstorm warning, so with the possibility of losing power and the computer getting dead if I stay on, I've got to sign off and shut down real quick.

I do not see any complications that might ruin the roleplay if we do so, unless you feel like you're being forced. If so, then do as your pace will.

How about something like this?
Dear Knights;
If you've been following the Knights Guild roleplay, you may already be aware that I've stepped down as king and passed the crown onto an NPC whose identity will soon be revealed. This will help reshape the guild from the inactive group it has become into a better functioning whole.
The transformation can't happen alone, however, and your help is still needed. We have begun discussing our new roleplay while we finish the one in progress and I encourage each of you to lend your voice in deciding where it goes. The first step to having a healthy guild is having a healthy roleplay, and all of your opinions will be valued as we decide which direction to take the guild in.
You have received this PM because you're listed as a member of the Knights Guild. If you no longer wish to be a member of the Knights Guild, please respond to this message or post in the welcome thread that you'd like to leave. Upon my return from Israel this August, I will make all changes to the Knights Guild roster.
Sincerely, Lord Wolf of Dunburrow

Since nobody else has replied yet...
Yes, Wolf. That sounds awesome. Send it out sooner rather than later, so that we can start revitalizing things.

This question kept running through my head when I read the PM:
"Who will be the next king?"
I'm not one to choose, but if that new king would be someone that the knights have already met, yet is not completely well-known, then he'd be a perfect getaway for plot twists and such. According to my experience, the less renowned an NPC is, the more flexibility we can afford for plotlines.

I'm still in. And I just got my internet back yesterday ^^ So that means I can actually be active. I have a vacation starting in two weeks where I'll be out of state, but once I get back from that I'll definitely be active As for the new king. I haven't been following the RPs, so I can't make any guesses.

Vyt - If my guess about the new king is right ((which I honestly have no idea about, but there just aren't that many NPCs in our roleplays, so... yeah)), then he'll fit those requirements fine.
Draco - Glad to have you back, even if you'll be going on vacation soon.
And I'm just going to say that, while Wolf's gone, I'll probably end up as the de-facto leader of the Knight's Guild. xD ..since I think that the two of us are the most active and dedicated to specifically this guild. So I may as well ask this now: What sort of non-roleplay activities might you be interested in? As you probably know, the guild boards are about to undergo a format change. Keep that in mind, since we'll be able to collaborate with other guilds in plots and activities and, well, everything.
Something that I, at least, would be interested in is seeing each of the knights construct a coat of arms based off of their color and title. Like. Mine (as the Bronze Phoenix/Phoenix of Darkness) could be something like ((forgive the heraldic terms)) 'Sable, a phoenix Or over a pale-wise sword proper'. Which translates to a golden phoenix (which, in proper heraldic terms, is rising out of fire) over a white sword with a gold hilt that's horizontal with point to dexter (the right) all on a black background.
...I didn't think I remembered that much heraldry, actually. xD ..whatever. I like heraldry. And this is a Knights Guild. Which is why I suggest that as something that people might find fun for their characters. You guys probably have other (more interesting) ideas than I do, at least right now. You might not have any ideas at the moment you read this, but start thinking. Also, let's start thinking about what we'll do with the roleplay. I'd like too keep that around, so long as enough people are interested to keep it alive.
And I'm rambling about nothing by this point. xD ..forgive me. There are actual points in there.

Welcome back, Draco! I look forward to being able to roleplay with you when we both get back from our respective vacations. I don't think I've had that honour yet. ~_^ And I'm just going to say that, while Wolf's gone, I'll probably end up as the de-facto leader of the Knight's Guild. Yes. In fact, before I decided to pass the kingship onto an NPC, I was thinking of passing it onto you. :] I'm also curious to know who you're thinking of, though I hope you're not disappointed if I add a bit of backstory to his character so there's a reason Alec and Casandra might flee for a while if you guys want it that way, and besides, this particular NPC--though prevalent in numerous ways and oft mentioned in passing--isn't included in the present list, so that, too, makes things more interesting. And very soon, his identity shall be revealed.... Anyways, some medieval/knightly activities are jousting, archery, parring for sport, jesting, equestrianism (is that the right word?), and--maybe--metalsmithing. How these might apply to activities, I don't know, but those are some ideas for people who might be more activity inclined. Oh--knights also like drinking games! At least, there's always taverns in the knight stories I've read.... Maybe we're not as different from the Pirates as I thought we were. >.> (Just had an idea! Tavern songs (or something catchier): Everyone writes two lines, and the first line has to rhyme with the second line from the post before it. This could be fun to see what things are churned out, and might be fun for the Pirates and other heavy drinkers to join us. But, ooh, then we'd have to watch out for bar fights! Anyways, like I said, I'm inclined to not start any new threads unless absolutely necessary, so I encourage anyone who wants to take action to take the idea and run with it if you think it's any good.) I also like the idea of each of us making our own coat of arms, though I'm not sure how you intend this to count as an activity. Would it just be drawing up, if possible, our own coats of arms to share with others, or would there be some competitiveness to it somewhere in the mix? AND! I just revamped the Welcome thread. Give it a look. Tell me what you think. ~_^

Well, I like the coat of arms idea, I'm not sure how I'd get my drawing on here, but I ilike the idea.
I thought of, maybe an archery competition. With the winner getting shinies or some other sort of prize. If there's any interest I could figure out a way to do it.
