Regis Lupi Memorandum (abridged) ...... further below
Regis Lupi Memorandum (unabridged)I've read through all the RP discussion throughout the various threads of this guild, and I've put some thought into it all, and this is what I propose (bear in mind, however, that in keeping up with school and work and NaNo, I've fallen a few pages behind in the RP).
First, I think this thread should be retired, locked, and allowed to settle with the other archives. It's been good, but it could be better. OoC isn't all we need in this guild - serious RP discussion has to have its place as well, and since the two usually go hand-in-hand anyways, having a single thread for both of them is only logical and will keep all discussion together (and thus, more easily followed).
Second, I propose we terminate the present roleplay and start anew...again. I suggest this for a couple reasons, most notably the following:
(a) it will negate our need to "revive" anything by giving us something that's already innately living,
(b) we can start it with a clear idea of what will be going on, which will eliminate posts that propel subplots but fail to elevate a single dominant and unifying plot above the others, and
(c) it will appear less intimidating to any and all members that wish to jump in, including, but not limited to, those that have recently joined but have, for the most part, remained silent.
As well, assuming we do, in fact, put Kit's suggestions into place, it would be better, in my opinion, if they applied to all posts in the roleplay, beginning to end, instead of just to those after a set point in time when the suggestions were first put into place.
That all said, I don't think I'd want to start any new RP and discussion/OoC threads until after November, so those of us doing NaNoWriMo won't have to try to keep up with both at once. Plus, it allows us time to plan what the next roleplay's central plot could be so that it has less of a chance of dying.
Because, really, from what I've seen, our present RP is overrun with personal subplots surrounding single characters, whereas what we need is a uniting plot to encompass and connect all of us. Certainly, it'd be both beneficial and easier for each of us if our subplots ran alongside a dominant plotline instead of straining to serve as the only connecting factors between all the characters, as I have noticed they have been attempting to do for quite some time already, rather unsuccessfully, I feel. And, I admit, I've done this, too.
As well, we could theoretically start the next RP after a bit of time has elapsed, so if anyone wanted to abandon a particular subplot, it could easily be done (though, on the topic of time, a few days between roleplays might be necessary to initiate a new plot as well, if one so is desired).
But again, we're a democratic monarchy and I'm an inexperienced roleplayer, albeit an experience writer, which are perhaps related on some levels but are truly independent labels, I believe. So. I'm open for discussion. In fact, that's probably what I'm asking for with this post: discussion.
So. Is this a good idea, do you like it? What would you change about it? Do you think it's necessary, unnecessary, or a complete waste of time? Were you saddened when Pluto lost its planetary status?
...
And, you know, I'm starting to understand why people become totalitarian rulers. It's easier to manage things when you're the only one making decisions. And this is only an online guild with fewer than a dozen active members, so an entire country would be, like, billions of time this size!
And for reading all of this, have a cookie. I've got chocolate chip, peanut butter, and pimento.
Regis Lupi Memorandum (abridged)For various reasons, I propose we archive this thread and create in its place a thread specifically for both OoC chitter-chatter
and serious RP discussion. Further, I propose we also: Hold a formal funeral for our present RP, steal another from our local dragons' den (babies come from storks; fantasies from dragons), shape it into a fine-looking specimen with regulated posts and an actual, unifying plot instead of hundreds of teensey-weensey, teeny-tiny struggling subplots trying to be bigger than they actually are, and then we start it all after November has come to an end and all the tryptophan has worn off.
Id est, you've successfully lost your right to a cookie by not reading the unabridged edition. =P
