Who wants to go start a rider/stal club? (If someone actually starts this, I apologize) Don't. There've been Rider/Stal shippers around long enough. Apparently, the theory is that it's so anti-canon, it's canon. XD But I support Stal/Spot. ^____^ |

Seeing that this particular thread has been ded for four months, no wonder x3 But yeah, we have a plank, even used once as I remember. Though I personally prefer keelhauling... more effective, you'll still get to keep the keelhaul'd person for possible later walking-the-plank and most importantly, the keel will stay all nice and shiny ^^ |

And are they important? *ears twitch* Ooh, this one's for me =D *clears throat* (Sorry, I have a soft spot for explaining everything that has to do with ships, personal pride of a sailor's daughter, and I'm probly the only one around here with a genuine maritime dictionary on her desk 24/7 one way or another...) Ropes. Lotsa different types of those on a ship, lotsa different purposes, lotsa different names. First, the stays. Basically the ropes that hold the masts in position. No swinging on those. Second, the rigging, not sure if those have a plural. The net-like ropes we use for climbing up and down the masts. Not swingable - no loose ends. Luckily. Third, the lifts. Not sure what those are for but they link the ends of the yards to the cross-trees. I should prolly make a separate thread to explain what the yards and cross-trees are. Right now deal with what I just said. Lifts unswingable as well. Fourth, the vangs. No idea about these ones. Apparently they link the first yards of each mast to the deck. Gotta check more thorougly on those (Unswingable, yus) Fifth, footropes. We walk on these when hoisting and reefing the sails and generally climbing on the yards. No further comments needed, I s'pose. Sixth, braces. Those are needed to turn the yards sideways to catch the wind with the sails. Swing on those and the boatswain will have your head. To sum it all up, I just spoiled all your fun x3 |
