Both rejected but it was a blast to try writing poetry for the first time in years. Ixi Day Haikus Short horns and small hooves Climbers, grazers, headbutt-ers The famous Ixi
Vibrant, lush and green Few trees to cut the suns sheen Plains of Meridell
Many great and small Intricate and intimate herd Nomad family
Red, yellow, green, blue Mystery with some magic Pets for me and you
Paintbrushes and clothes Training at pirates cove Happy Ixi day
How a Tuskaninny Stays Cool They swim, they splash It's all quite a blast
How the water sits cool and blue For them and for you
They daydream, they eat ice cream It’s all really very serene
How the vanilla is discrete In a frozen treat
They run, they wave It’s all in a day
How the ball bounces past And laughs follow fast
They sling, they slush It’s really a must
How they flock to the stand Many Altador Cup fans
They party, they celebrate On a very special date
How they cheer and play For a special Tuskaninny Day

Here's my most recent failed attempt, for Meridell Day. I think I'll try resubmitting it for Draik Day in September, or a random day. The Draik Nest
Deep in the heart of Meridell, Unseen on any map, There is a quiet mountain where Trees curve around a gap.
When you sneak inside, you feel A sudden warmth and hush. The cave is filled with purple rocks; The moss is soft and lush.
You hear a steady dripping sound And turn to see a pool, Greenly bubbling on the cavern floor, Nurturing and cool.
This hidden cave, the legend says, Is home to every Draik. It's here that their babies hatch from eggs And in the darkness wake.
A slow unease descends on you; You feel you've stayed too long. On the way out, you put the leaves Back where they belong.
And as you turn to watch the sky You cannot help but see Two shadows fly in arcs above, Graceful, strong and free.

Hello! Wow it’s been a while since I’ve been around, but after a Neo break, I wanted to see how things are with the Poetry Contest these days. Is there an ideal time to submit to have the best chance at selection for a Neopian holiday? Does the judge still send held over/rejection nm’s for unused entries? Do we need to resubmit if not chosen, or does the current judge keep them and use them later for random days? Sorry for all the questions, but I’m looking forward to jumping back in TIA

Best time to submit is the day before or even the day of the holiday. The poems are on a schedule that can be seen in the Neopian Writers neoboards. 2. This judge, Adler, does not send in holdover neomails or rejection ones. 3. It's better to resubmit for random days. Hope this helps!

And here I thought I might be too late for Valentine’s Day lol. Thank you so much for the info - it’s definitely a bit different from what I remember, but I’m excited to send some entries in and see what happens. And holy moly is there a lot going on in Neo. I’m still poking around to see what I missed!

Sorry for all the questions, but I’m looking forward to jumping back in TIA Heyyy welcome back! A few people were collecting data on when they submitted stuff and if there was any correlation between the time of submission and the frequency of publication. It appears that things submitted later in the queue are more likely to be seen and published, so people generally try to submit the night before or the morning of the gallery they're aiming for. It's also pretty common practice to resubmit if not chosen. However, I did have a poem I submitted for Bruce Day that didn't get chosen. I'd intended to submit it again for a random gallery, but I forgot... and the judge remembered! O: I was super surprised to log in one day and see the notification that the poem was in the gallery. I guess on rare occasions they do save poems for future publication. In any case, best of luck! There's basically no pattern as to why things get rejected or accepted, so don't stress too much about it and just keep trying. It's fine to just publish your poems here, on a petpage or offsite too if you just want some feedback on it; people will appreciate it regardless of whether it gets into the official gallery or not.

Thank you for the welcome! And thank you for the detailed reply! This is super helpful I found the posts that the current judge put up for the monthly schedule on Neo, so I will try submitting on the day before or day of and see what happens. I have a pet page from back in the day where I posted the poems I got accepted, but it would definitely be fun to be able to share stuff here too! Even the ones that don’t make it in lol.
