Since it happens from time to time, people don't know when there's going to be a special issue etc. etc., I thought it would be a good idea to have a list of them in one thread. :3 (Well actually Tashni came up with the idea in a post of hers. XD I'm taking the initiative to get it started)
Please note that each special issue is only depending on the amount of entries Droplet recieves. For example, if Droplet doesn't receive enough Illusen Day entries, she won't put up the cool layout that accompanies it.
As of recent, the only special issues to be celebrated are Halloween, Christmas, and Milestone issues. User led collabs have also given out prizes, so keep an eye out over at Times Lobby for the next upcoming one. If you'd like, you can still submit a themed entry for one of these other holidays, but keep in mind that the issue will likely not be decorated.
These are the dates for the holidays themselves. The day the corresponding issue comes out will be the closest Friday to the holiday.
Sloth Appreciation Day- January 14th
Jhudora Day- February 4th
Valentines Day- February 14th
Illusen Day- March 17th
April Fools- April 1st
Easter Issue- Varies, between March and April
Grey Day- April 14th
Fyora Day- June 2nd
Petpet Appreciation Day- June 8th
Milestone Issue (ends in 50 or 00)- Varies, usually in September
Usukicon- August 20th
Mutant Day- August 25th
Halloween- October 31st
Neopets' Birthday- November 15th
Christmas- December 25th
Please note that not all 'special' issues do not give out prizes. ^_^

Petpet Appreciation Day? Now there's one I've never heard of.
I've said this on the NTAG, but I'm surprised that there's no Easter issue. There used to be...but I suppose these are more different times. Or, it also depends on how many themed entries will be accepted in time.

It might be helpful to post the dates the issues come out along with issue numbers.
Illusen Day Issue - (confirmed) March 20
Grey Day Day Issue - (confirmed) April 17
Fyora Day Issue - Issue 395 - (presumably) June 5
Mutant Day Issue - Issue 408 - (presumably) August 28 (NOTE: There is a chance this will not be a special issue)
Issue 400 - July 10th
GENERAL NOTE: Special days rarely fall on a Friday. As a rule, the special issue is released the Friday after the special day. For example, Fyora Day is on June 2nd, but the Fyora Issue will most likely be out on the Friday after, which is June 5. HOWEVER, this is reversed with popular secular holidays like Christmas, when the special issue is generally the friday before the holiday.

I think the only time Droplet seems to put the special issues before the day is when it's generally a big deal, such as with the April Fools prank, Halloween and Christmas, or if the issue happens to be really close to the day anyway (like with Valentines). Because Jhudora Day, Grey Day, and Illusen Day all are/were the Friday after. |

I remember looking through last years 'Easter' NT and there was an Easter background, so maybe there will be a special issue for it?
I've already got an Easter article ready, anyway.

I'm glad you went ahead and made this thread. ^^ I did think it was a good idea when it was suggested (actually, JDB made a thread along the same lines in I&I too.) It just needed initiative from someone willing to do it.  |

*headdesks* I'm arguing with someone about special issues. She's going around telling people to expect a Plushie PB from the Illusen Day issue because that's what was given out last year. (I didn't enter that issue last year, so I don't know if that's accurate or not.)
It'd be nice if I could direct people here, since they don't seem to believe that it's merely a courtesy of Droplet and they shouldn't expect multi-million NP items every time.

O-o; Technically the NT is a non-rewarding competition so that you can submit stuff on side accounts... If people are going to be dumb and EXPECT some kind of 'reward', put down your pens. D| That's just dumb.
I had no idea but I was in the Illusen issue I think two or three years ago? And magically found, indeed, a book in my inventory (which is still rotting in my SDB by the way!) It's called Finding Illusen. But I can't speak for last year's round of Droplet's generosity. XD
