This could be a very long list... get ready.
------
Setting: Fantasy, possibly horror or sci-fi.
Name: Valad1
Species: Vichra
Gender: Male
Age: 9 years (Young adult)
Height: 1 metre2 at the shoulder
Length: Nearly 4 metres, counting the tail
Weight: Pretty darn heavy
Basic appearance: (You just wait until I get a picture drawn!)
* Has six limbs; all of them can function as arms or legs. Typically the Vichra walk on all sixes. Each foot has three fingers and an opposable thumb. All the fingers have small claws.
* The body has natural armour plating, with the heaviest armour on the shoulder and hip areas. (Both shoulder areas, by the way.) Aside from that, they're scaled.
* The head has a beak, with teeth inside the jaw. While the Vichra are capable of speech, their lack of lips means that they cannot make certain sounds3. There are also bony bumps just above their eyes (which face forward).
* To finish this off, they have a long, muscular tail with a small club on the end of it. The tail can only be moved sideways, but the club is made of bone, and it can be swung quite hard.
* Valad has a few scars, mostly healing scracthes near his left eye. His very back left leg has a slight limp to it.
* He is mostly coloured a sickly brownish-yellow; his eyes are brown.
Backstory
There are two main varieties of the Vichra; the Hive and the Free. Hive Vichra live in hivelike societies with a matching mindset. The need for speech is not there; instead they communicate telepathically. They share the same thoughts over a highly complicated network.
However, it's possible to break one individual's connection to the hive. A concussion to the head is normally enough, but the hives generally refer to it as a member "dying"; since they are no longer part of the hive, it can be difficult to survive.
This is where the Free Vichra come in; they came about as a result of large numbers of Vichra losing their connections with their hives, and banding together in order to survive. Over time, their numbers have been steadily growing, and while they aren't numerous enough to be a threat to the Hive Vichra, they generally have no interest in their telepathic "cousins".
This is essentially what happened to Valad. He fought against another Vichra hive, and in the middle of the clash he got a concussion and fell unconscious. For several months afterwards he had severe amnesia, and would have perished if a village of Free Vichra hadn't found him. He managed to recover, and to learn how to speak.
Interestingly, the mental abilities of most sapient beings are in the Vichra, but they are suppressed by their connection. If it is severed, then these abilities somehow accelerate into becoming fully developed. Again, this is what happened to Valad, over the course of several years.
Eventually, he left the village to travel on his own.
------
1 Not his actual name; Valad's true name, however, is in fact a number... not to mention impossible to pronounce.
2 Yes, I'm using the metric system. To put this in metres and feet: his height would be about 3" 3', and his length would be roughly 12" 10'. He's big.
3 To be precise, the sounds are: "b", "f", "m", and "p". Suggested replacement sounds are "d", "g", "th", "v", and "n". If any bad jokes or winning linesgog ug pop up out of this, I'm sorry.
"Why didn't you write down his personality!?" Two reasons: 1, if I write a character's personality they always end up drastically out of character, and 2, seeing how a character acts can at times be even more telling than a description of personality.
