I'm kinda hesitant to chronicle my progress here because I plan to write a Neopets story. It's the only way I'll be able to get this blasted series out of my head and into a text file. >_< I doubt the whole story will take me to 50K but that's what spontaneous ninja pirates are for. I got characters. I have conflict. I have a story to tell. I have a twist at the end. And now that I'm planning things out, I'm filling up a bunch of plot holes so I'd say things are going to a good start already.

Alrighty so we have boy Eyrie and girl Eyrie....two opposites in personality, interests and background. She likes visiting faraway lands and fighting in the battledome. He likes reading books and playing games...the Neoquests in particular. He was raised with a close relationship with his parents, especially his father. The story starts when he passes a family heirloom onto him, a gold pendant on a chain. She spent the first part of her life in the pound.
After Girl manages to talk Boy into going with her into the Haunted Woods, the two Eyries stumble a Neopet who can use the Old Magic (the magic from NQ I). He recognizes Loraul's pendant...Boy is actually a great great great etc. grandson of Jahbal.
Enter a backstory that explains the fall of Xantan, Jahbal's rise to power and what happened after his death in greater detail. It's a story of unfinished business and the danger of Jahbal manifesting himself again through one of his decendents. Boy's pendent is actually the core of of that green gem sitting on top of his staff. There used to be five gems set in it that are now being watched over by guardians. He happens to be one such guardian as he is a distant relation to Boy.
Then the story goes into "epic search" mode for the other pieces and to "negotiate" with the other guardians. All the while, Boy is becoming increasingly (and dangerously) skilled in the Old Magic and Girl, who has become used to being better than him as far as battle is concerned, is growing more and more jealous...
