PLOT:
What I Know:
A Literary/Mainstream Fiction novel with YA characters, which would be shelved either in Lit Fic or YA. At least one plot or subplot will involve any of the following: friendship, being different, love, family, arguments, resolution.
What I Don't Know:
Specific details on plot, specific details on subplots.

CHARACTERS:
Main Character 1: Nameless (Clara) (possibly Evie, Therese, Elise, Clarisse, Jolise, Marise, Sherise, Shanise) (past names: Madeline, Jamie)
Narrator, main character, protagonist (sort of)
Not quite sure why she does the work for highschool
Sees highschool as something self-contained, not a stepping-stone to college etc.
If asked if she wanted to be successful, would say yes, but hasn't a clue about how she'll go about it
Sort of hero-worships some people at her school--they're her ideal friends, but she would never even think of dreaming of having anything in common with them.
The sort of person who will cry at highschool graduation, and while she might come up with a lot of reasons for why, it's really because of perceived safety lost.
Likes sunny days, chocolate cake, and things that are simple and easy.
Doesn't do afterschool activities because they'd interfere with her usual routine.
Goes to the library after school every Wednesday

3. Does your m/c have a Lucky Number? Yes. Seven.
4. What’s your m/c’s favorite Color? Light yellow
5. Favorite Season? And why? Autumn, because of the leaves.
6. What type of music does your m/c listen to? (ex: classical, rock, heavy metal, jazz, etc) Listens to hiphop because her friends do, when she takes the impetus to listen to music herself it's usually grand, wide-sweeping classical music with lots of melodies/countermelodies, which fascinate her.
7. If your m/c could dye his/her hair, what color would he/she dye it? She wouldn't. She might get a red stripe on urging from her friends, but only a small one off on the side.
8. What’s your m/c’s favorite food? Lemonade
9. Who was your m/c’s first crush? She isn't sure.
10. Is your m/c social? She'll talk to her friends during the day, but doesn't see them after school much, and she's not on the periphery of her group but not in the middle, either. She won't start a conversation with someone she doesn't know, especially a girl she doesn't know.
11. Can your m/c dance? She might be able to, but she's never tried.
12. Can your m/c sing? No--not very well, at least.
13. Would your m/c ever get drunk and make a fool of him/herself? When she's older, maybe.
14. Does your m/c like wearing socks? She doesn't really think about it.
15. Does your m/c like hats? Yes, if they're sensible.
16. Does your m/c use lotion? No
17. Has your m/c ever sleep talk before? Nope, at least not that she's aware of.
18. Does your m/c eat neatly or messy? Not really either one. Neatly I suppose.
19. Did your m/c grow up with one mother, two mothers, one father, two fathers, one mother and one father, or did your m/c have no guardian parent? A father and a mother. I'm not screwing my characters' lives up THAT much.
20. Did your m/c go to school? She is currently attending highschool as a junior.
Main Character 2: Nameless (Maisie) (possibly Clara)
Sees highschool as a preliminary to college
Has a clear vision for what she's going to do with her life; has it all planned out.
Since she sees highschool as an intermediate step that will soon be over, she doesn't really care what she does--she makes friends, talks to people about anything, etc.
She is self-confident without really knowing what it's called--"Isn't everyone?"
Won't cry at highschool graduation because, why cry? You get to advance to next level of learning, get closer to being out on your own.
Eats chocolate chip cookies from a package, likes changes in the weather of any sort. Doesn't like home baked goods.
Not used to indulging herself. Often thinks sweets are too sweet.
On the outskirts of the 'popular' group.
Has acted in one-acts at school, done lights for a couple of the musicals
Knows which colleges she'll apply to, in order of which are the "best"; she herself doesn't really know which of them she likes the most.
Doesn't listen to music much

It's sort of like they're divorced, except they aren't, which will provide complication when he gets back, but for now she's sort of settled into it.

Setting:
General setting:
Suburban metro area in the USA
Mainly liberal community
Has a highschool and a library, not too far apart
Plenty of trees
Library:
Large windows, old building that's been renovated
Highschool:
Similar to library.
Auditorium being renovated (asbestos removal?) so the plays being produced are performed at local elementary/middle schools

Well, I'm getting closer to naming my characters now, at least... currently their names are Clara and Therese. Therese doesn't quite seem right, though... anyone know of any names that are close to that in spelling/pronounciation? (Other than Theresa, that is.)
