I've had an idea for a NaNo story floating around in my head for weeks, but I haven't been entirely sure if I should enter it. But after much deliberation, I have finally decided to tackle NaNo for the first time. ^^
I can be pretty stiff when it comes to plot development. Sometimes it takes me a long while to think about how characters in my stories will develop and how certain scenes and conflicts will take place (which is the reason why I haven't updated my NTWF story for a while ^^;; ). It is my hope that entering NaNo will allow me to loosen up and be able to think more freely about plots. I must train myself to sit back and let my imagination run wild without worrying about plot holes or anything. xD Then, once the story is finished, I could go back and fix everything.
Details about my story will come soon.

LET IT ALL OUT!!!
Don't sweat the details. Don't overplan. Don't worry about making everyone the way you want them to. And WHATEVER you do, DO NOT EDIT. Nothing. Even if you are aware of a major plot hole, just write a note to yourself and fix it in December.
NaNoWriMo is about getting those creative juices flowing and just going wherever your imagination leads you--no matter what! You can fix things later, if they need fixing after all.

Thanks for the tips, Tashni. ^_^ I'll be keeping that in mind. Anyway, it's about time I posted some info on what i'm writing about. Title: Maia Genre: Fantasy Description: My goal is to write a story that is heavily influenced by H.C. Anderson's famous fairy tale, Thumbelina. After reading it again recently, I just got a wave of inspiration, and I really think that I can expand on Anderson's story and turn it into a work of fantasy. ( Link to the original story, from Wikisource.) There are a lot of places in the original story where Anderson fast-forwards time, and this gave me a lot of interesting things to think about. What kinds of towns does Tiny sail past on that lilypad? What sort of places does she encounter after she is rejected by the beetles and left to fend for herself? Do any other events occur while she is living with the field mouse for so long? And most importantly, what happens after the end of the story? I think there's a lot of potentional for me to stretch this tale like sillyputty, put my own creative twist on it, and hopefully teach a few moral lessons in the process. So, you could say that my story will be a work of fan fiction, in a way. ^^

Strife, your idea sounds very interesting! I'm very fond of novels and stories that recreate fairy tales. And Thumbelina is an interesting choice. I'm a bit that way, too, actually. But I realized when I did NaNo last year that I really do work better if I have plenty of details or a plot outline written already. My major writer's block last year (that ended in the demise of my novel ) was my plot didn't have anywhere else to go. XD

Thank you, Belle. ^_^
The reason I decided to do a "remix" of an old fairy tale is because I can use the original story as a framework for my plot. The events of Thumbelina are train stations, and my novel is the tracks. The main plot points are already there, but I just have to decide how to approach them in my own creative way.
Of course, the only time this won't work is when I reach the end of the original story, at which point I will need to think of something completely original. x) By the time that happens, however, I think i'll be at 50,000 words, if not really close to it.
With all the things going on right now, hopefully I won't get writer's block. ^^;

...and I got writer's block. What a surprise. xD
When it comes to writing, i'm very spontaneous - in other words, I do better when I can write little bits of the story several times a day as opposed to writing a lot of stuff during a single period of time (also known as a 'cramming session'). But because of school and what-not, I only get a few chances to sit down and write, so i'm kindof forced to cram all of my words that way.
This is going to be tricky for me... but I shouldn't allow myself to get stressed out by the 50,000 word goal. I came into NaNo knowing that I probably wouldn't succeed my first time around, so in that case, i'm just going to put NaNo in the background and write freely without stress. And if that somehow allows me to win NaNo afterall, then hey, that's a nice pat on the back. ^_^
