Yes, this is the Band Geeks club... this includes concert bands, orchestras, jazz ensembles, choir-information, musical artist discussion, and RUBBER BANDS. I'm hoping to see if we could somehow manage to band together any instruments we play to make a full concert or orchestra ensemble, and perhaps have a 'Artist/Instrument Recommendation Center', where members can tell other members any artists or instruments that they think others might enjoy. Before you can join or move into any discussions, you must first read these guidelines: 1. The Band Geeks Club are for people who either enjoy music or play an instrument, or both, though if none of the above apply to you you can still join, even though you probably couldn't do much... 2. There is to be NO BASHING of any musical choices listed, but 'critism', if I spelt that right, is allowed. Likewise, any kind of extreme, purposeful 'fanning' is disallowed, but 'liking' is. For example: The new single by Mariah Carey, Say Somethin' feat Snoop Dogg, has recently been released and has hit Number 1 on MTV's TRL.BASHING: OMG, MARIAH SUCKS! SHE'S SUCH A LIPSYNCER, MY EARS ARE SO BLEEDING I NEVER WANT TO HEAR THIS SONG AGAIN CRITISM: The song does have some good features about it such as the high notes in the end, but there are some negative elements also. FANNING: OH MY GEE MARIAH CAREY IS THE COOLEST CHICK EVER I WANT TO BE HER HUBBY 4EVA LIKING: Mariah Carey can really sing, and I really enjoy her music, especially this song. 3. To join, please post your favourite artist, any instruments you play, or both via this form: BAND GEEKS! (Tyrannitar) Fav. Artist: Evanescence Instruments: Piano, Euphonium, Recorder (more rules as I think of them)

My friend Caroline would join in two seconds. Really. XDD lol... but are YOU going to join? Oh, for any alto sax or guitar players... I'm thinking of quitting euphonium and joining alto sax next year for both Jazz AND Concert Band (hopefully, if not then just Jazz) because I find the euphonium most dull. Also, after piano, I want to take on guitar (just a few months left since I'm in level 10 and just need to bump a couple of songs up to gold and finish up the flat-minor scales before exams), any tips for both those instruments?

Ooh ooh! Finally, a club that I'm interested in! I play the clarinet and the piano, but I haven't played any piano in ages. And at the moment I like a lot of artists and bands, I can't name just one.

Coolness! Me wants to be joining! ;D
Fav. Artist: Oh, I have a lot. ^_^ And that doesn't even include my local faves. But for the sake of listing, some (international) artists I'm fond of are Kelly Clarkson, Green Day, Simple Plan, Mariah Carey, Evanescence, Avril Lavigne, Westlife, Celine Dion, and Ashlee Simpson.
Instruments: Recorder, bamboo flute (native instrument), piano

Band Geeks Club - awesome!
I guess some of my favorite artists at the moment are: Green Day, Yellowcard, John Mayer, Cheap Trick, Queen, Kansas, and a bunch of others, but I listen to these the most. I also love rubber bands. They're awesome.
I play clarinet and alto sax, but I'm going to learn bassoon next year (really excited)!
I'm not that great at sax - I've been playing it for about a year and a half, but it's pretty fun. The fingerings for sax and clarinet are similar, but it's actually easier on sax (in my opinion, anyway) because the register key moves the note up an octave. So the upper fingerings (six-fingered D with register key and up) are the same, and then the lower notes on sax are basically the same as the ones an octave above it, but without the register key. I hope I explained that okay...
Anyway, this seems like a cool club, it should be fun.

GAHness - I waited for an hour after school to talk to the band director that I'll be having for the next four years and who I've never made contact before except for a request to open the bass instrument storage room door, and he told me that HE, like my current director, wanted me to stick with euphonium/baritone HORN (not sax) for concert band over something like tenor or alto sax, but he'd still accept me for jazz band for tenor/alto sax since he won't accept an euphonium, the only jazz-related instrument next to piano that I play. I take the BUS home, and if I have to carry a tenor/alto sax, both rather heavy, with the really heavy euphonium, I'll DIE. I really hope he will let me keep just ONE instrument, preferrably alto because of its size, but since we have 2 baritones and like 6 altos... GAH! He told me to write a note and give it to him and that he'd get back to me once he figured out the instruments that he'd have for jazz and concert band next year. Apparently one of my friends says that he somewhat has favouritism (guess it's a director thing) toward solos and percussion, but I dunno; maybe she's paranoid? I heard he's still nice though...

Yikes. I hope that works out for you, Tyranitar. I have two instruments, but I go home in a car, and my clarinet's tiny (oh, but I guess I'll have bassoon next year, but still)... I can only imagine, that'd really stink to have to carry both home on the bus. Hopefully the teacher is a nice guy and you'll be able to work something out with him. Sorry I don't have any advice to give you, except to try and explain it to him; hopefully he'll understand why you want to do what you want to. Oh, I just recently got some exciting news... my school is going to let the music department expand our band room! It's a good-sized room, but we have band, guitar, and choir classes in their (and during zero period, jazz band and choir currently have to switch off practising in the gym because we have no where else to play), and we have to put all the instruments, chairs, stands, risers, cabinets, etc. in the band room, so we have to cram stuff together against the walls sometimes to make room. Plus they *may* give choir their own room... so that would be awesome if it did happen. So we've got to come up with some fundraisers and such for the money, but the school is actually letting the music program get something! Last year my teacher practically had to beg to get new music stands.

Well, I asked him and told him about the alto AND tenor who would be leaving concert band next year, and he said that he probably would make the it work out, the switch from baritone to saxophone. I did pick up baritone in like a month (once you learn a Bb concert scale, you basically know most of the stuff you'd expect to find in a piece) but there are only 3 valves, but in order to play well you need air support, embochure, ect. ect. Apparently, sax, being a woodwind, doesn't need that much air support and embochure sounds easier, but I still don't know a lot about it... I'll have to take lessons after my finals end (OMG FINALS), assuming that my director 100% verifies that I CAN switch. I do hope more people join this club.
