You could actually make the argument that he is losing/gaining something. He's gaining a lance, but he's losing the one that he had. Exactly the same.

Did the laws of Equivalent Exchange even really come into play when they were using their alchemic powers and such?

Now that Eby mentions it, the moving of the earth to make the lance does make sense. He's just decomposing, then rebuilding the structure of the earth to make something different.

Equivalent Exchange is trying to make something out of less. If Ed tried to make his lance with a small handful of dirt, it wouldn't work. Ed tried to bring back his mom, look where it landed him.

reeealy funny story.... every time I make a comment about Frozen being an ice sculpture in denial, somehow it always comes out sounding like I'm referring to Ice. She keeps correcting me and saying she's an ice cube. Once, between the time I read a board, and typed/posted a reply at Frozen (mentioning, of ocurse, that he was an ice sculpture), she came and posted right before me. Like, half a minute before XD we're cursed, I think.
