I can't imagine going through life like that. Blind, deaf and in pain. I would let her go. There is something wrong with that man it seems if you read closly you will see he already had a son with disablements. I would really let her go becuase if she managed to grow up she would spend alot of time in the hospital. and she would seem a likely canadate for a suiside. Ultimitly I think it is the parents desision, but I think they are makeing the wrong one.

Ultimitly I think it is the parents desision, but I think they are makeing the wrong one. Agreed. Whatever the case, the law doesn't have any right to do this to them. Unless maybe they could argue that keeping her alive would be a form of child abuse, thus authorizing them to take her away from her parents and eventually allow her to pass on in peace. *shurgs* I don't know, it just sort of scares me that the courts have that much power, and even though I don't think it's right to make that poor girl suffer, allowing them to do this is setting a HORRIBLE precedent.

They should let nature take it's course. If the baby is meant to die (which it probably is) then it will die. Keeping a child like that alive is more cruel than letting it die in my opinion. [edit] I love the whomping willow. >_<

I have to say that this is about one of the sadest things I have ever heard in my entire life.
The parents apper to love their baby very much but, they're not understanding... Their daughter is pain and even if she does survive she will most likely have some serious medical problems.
In the article, I read that the infant had stopped breathing three times. I think that the parents need to wake and relize that the time has come. Doctors have apparently done all they can do for the little girl and they can do nothing more to help her.. I'm sure if there was something more that they could do they would have already done it...
(Yeah, I proubly made no sense but, that's what I feel about this topic. My heart goes out to that family...)

Well, I suppose I'm on the fence with this one. According to my faith, this baby has a time to die. Whenever it may be, nothing will stop it, even with the 'help' of doctors.

I'd just like to say... can you imagine how guilty the parents would feel, how incredibly heartbreaking it would be to let your child die, after 11 months of her fighting for life, and after all thats happened. Imagine the burden of being made to live life, knowing that child might have had a chance at some kind of happiness, but you just let them die. I've heard a few people saying the parents are being "selfish", but really, can you imagine letting go of something to dear to you like that.
I agree she shouldn't be ressucitated, however, I also agree with the actions of the parents.
And by the way, you all know the doctors won, right? Next time she stops breathing, they're gonna leave her to die in peace.

The courts are only envoloved because this considered euthinasia (sp?), right?

The courts are only envoloved because this considered euthinasia (sp?), right? I don't think so. It's more of an DNR (Do Not Receitate-sp?). It's a legal document that an adult can sign which requires the doctors to make no attempts to start or help the patient breathe again. Parents and guardians would have the the finally say for minors/mentally challenged. - usually that is.
