It's been a big news story over here in the UK. Some doctors have gone to court because they want the right to not resusatate (sp?) a baby, therefore letting her die. This is because the baby is blind, deaf and going through pain every moment of her life. Her parents however want her to stay alive.
I personally think its better for the baby to die then go through a life of pain. What do you think?

I think I need more details there. What is wrong with her that is causing her to be in pain? How do they know that that's the case?
And furthermore, who was the right to decide whether a child should live or die?

And furthermore, who was the right to decide whether a child should live or die? Charlotte has been in hospital for 11 months, with serious problems. If she lives, she will be severely disabled and in constant pain - like she is right now. Doctors are asking permission to resusitate her if she stops breathing again; the parents are against it. I would say she should be let to die. I think if a child is going to be in so much pain... The doctors don't want to bring her back to life when she constantly stops breathing - ie her body is trying to die - as she is suffering so much... But the parents want her to live, so it's hard.

Hrm. Well, I agree with the medical witness in that article. I think the parents need to come to realize it might be best to just let the baby go - as it does seem that her body is trying to die. They need to let go, not have their daughter taken from them, which is what will happen if the doctors win.
That's always a tough choice, whether or not to continue life support. Even harder with an infant, as they've had no opportunity to decide for themselves what they want done to them.

[glow=red,2,300]I think the parents are being selfish. I mean, if that child makes it, she'll have to suffer with her parents' descision every moment of her life. That's not fair to anyone. Basically, I'm agreeing with all of Kiddo and Oily's points. This is so sad... I just hope they come up with a cure someday. [/glow]

If that baby's body is actually trying to shut itself down, let it die and be at peace. The baby should not be made to suffer a life of nonstop pain, unable to see or even hear.
Can you IMAGINE that?!

Aw, this is sad! I think they should let the girl die. I know how sad it is, but I think it would be the best for her.

I think it's up to the parents. They are going through an extremely difficult time, experiencing a pain I could never even imagine, and until they are ready to let her go, they should try to keep her alive. Give them some breathing room, let them think about it, and then decide what is best for their child.

The court has decided that the doctors don't have to revive her if Charlotte stops breathing. It is sad but I think it is for the best.

A court should NEVER, EVER, force somone to let watch doctors let their baby die. That little girl, even if she is going to be blind and deaf her whole life, should be allowed to live. Why should the goverment, or the doctors, have any say in the matter? It is up to to the parents, who want their little daughter.

She should die. She will be at peace then. If she lives then she will be in pain for the rest of her life, and it will be a short life at that. With the ilnesses she has, even if they let her live, she won't live long no matter what.

Why does the court have so much power over them? It's up to the parents to decide. If they want to keep her, then go ahead. But, if it were up to me, I think she should die. I couldn't bear to see anyone in so much pain. Things like this might lead to suicide which will be an even bigger impact on her parents than it is now.

It's the Doctors that have the power, they're the ones responsible for reviving...and if the court says they don't have to, then they wont. I'm with the doctors on this one.
I think the parents are being a bit selfish. I mean, I would not want my child to suffer a life of pain. The baby would also be deaf and blind? What a horrible way to live. The parents need to "bite the bullet" and accept the fact that if the baby lives, she will have a horribly painful life, but if she dies she will not have to suffer.
