I heard a really awful political commercial the other day--not just badly-done, but also highly...well, not quite hate speech, but it certainly was some kind of -ist--maybe racist, if Californian could be considered a race! (By the way, if you've heard the same one, please don't mention the state or the politicians involved--for my own privacy, I'd rather not have my state of origin known. Thank you ) The highlights: "Politican Q is pro-abortion, against <a specific anti-gay-marriage law that was recently passed>.... If she were from New York or California, we could understand that. But she's from -the state she's running in-. She should know better!" I thought that was terrible. Anybody else heard some awful ones lately?

"If she were from Cali or NY we could understand"? Oh, I get it - Californians and New Yorkers are stupid because they're for abortion, for gay marriage, and since this person is too, they shouldn't be elected! Yeah, I am waaay against gay marriage and abortion, but to say that makes me better than someone... and then to insult the entire populations of the two most populated states in America? Sure, I disagree with the politician, but that's just plain stupid.

That sorta er... insulted... me in a way, as I'm from California. Just because we have different political views here, doesn't mean we're like... savages...

I find it simply sad that the people making this commercial think so little of the voters in their state that they think appealing to stereotypes like that would be effective in swaying their decision making.

I find it simply sad that the people making this commercial think so little of the voters in their state that they think appealing to stereotypes like that would be effective in swaying their decision making. They wouldn't do them unlessed they'd work, and there are a depressing amount of stupid people out there who go for commercials like these. However, I think the vast majority thinks they're just as stupid as we do, but a few votes can make a difference... Oh, and the best political commercial that I've ever heard was one for last year's election, that went sorta like this (I can't remember how the Gore part went, so I made that up, but the Bush part is real): Bush, a junkyard dog. *a bulldog's face flashes on the screen* Gore, a valiant German Shepherd *German Shepherd head flashes on the the screen* So, when it comes to the elections, who do you want to vote for-- a junkyard dog or a german shepherd? Vote GORE!

However, I think the vast majority thinks they're just as stupid as we do, but a few votes can make a difference... But that's the thing-- choosing to appeal to the lowest common denominator insults all of the voters as if they were *all* people who are going to be swayed by that type of thing. LOL, are you serious? Well, most people where I work are very pro-Kerry (myself a few others not included). One girl was wearing a shirt the other day that said, "Vote for Kerry, all the cool kids are doing it." Of course, that's more joking about political advertisements than being serious. They also wrote on their white board: "Vote Kerry '04. Because when your options are a Bush or a couple of Johns, the choice is obvious."

This is similar to something in the news the other day:
Ok, that's just insulting the French. Don't the Republicans claim that they're trying to rebuild our relationship with France? That woman is just as much of a waffler as she claims Kerry is.

I agree, Comedian. Personally I'm really tired of all the French bashing...
Also, people who support Bush say Bush won the debate, people who support Kerry say Kerry won the debate, it's pointless to declare a 'winner' since people are just going to keep agreeing with whoever they were agreeing with before the debate.
