Alright, because of the big thread and blubs suggestion I decided to make a thread on this. I really think that it is good that some new people are going to get more of a chance. Personally even if I had been published many times, I would want to help get new people in even if it would me not getting in. Doesn't everyone deserve a chance, and I don't think it will mean decline in quality it will just mean diffrence. Maybe the jokes will be diffrent, maybe the writing style. However curving it and not treating everyone equally is not good, as everyone should have equal footing. Maybe instead they could create a couple issues a year, where the entire issue was done by the new people, and then a couple were it was by regulars. Lot's of people are saying that it was done beacause of the Avatar. Yes that was probably part of it, but I also think it was beacause there was a poll recently and many people said they haven't been published at all. Infact the two largest percentages were 31+ and None at all. I think it was probably beacause of this that the TNT made the change. Also it could be that the NT was loosing readers beacause people thought it was hopeless. Well that's my two cents.

I really think that it is good that some new people are going to get more of a chance. New people who deserved getting in had a chance in the old system. They shouldn't get any more of a chance than the so-called regs. It's a matter of fairness. Entries should be accepted because they're good, not because of trophy count (or lack thereof.) Well, yeah, new people, new jokes, new writing style... **applauds** I'm not really sure that I like that idea too much. I think the best system is the old system, where quality is top priority and no authors, new or old, are favored. *mutters about lying n00bs** Well, really, I don't think TNT could have taken that poll seriously. Unless Stone voted ten thousand times, 99% of the people who voted there were lying. (Check the NT index to see just how wrong they were.)

I think everybody should get a chance to get in, I mean I even got in with a series that I abhore today. I never even thought of the possibility that the authors who have a million trophies (exagerating, don't want to point any one out and make them feel upset, though I wwouldn't know why . You get in when you are good. it can be of course that in certain periods the quality of work is hiher and it's harder to get in, sometimes it's lower and that's what got me in with my two series (ick). i don't like the idea of those special issues, just keep it mixed and mingled, lots more fun. And personally I read a story when I like the title, the pic and the small summary, not because there's I-don't-know-which-name next to it. erm, I guess that's about it, feeling bit tired and whoozy now EDIT: what I also belive is that since the form starting eating submissions lots of things from newer authors never even came through! At the NTWF we all have the alternative e-mail, but they don't! Just equal, no favoritism: it's only logical that you get in if your story is really good...

What would be fair is simply accepting submissions that are worth accepting. Newcomers have just as much of a chance as the others. So I'm not sure it's the best thing to start favouring newcomers just because they started working on stuffa little later than the rest of us...

I'm unsure about this. When you think about it people on the NTWF used to send their stuff in by email and so they had an unfair advantage. Maybe Snowflake just meant that now everyone would have an equal chance of getting in. Prove me wrong if she didn't say that, I never actually saw what she said. Also I would rather see new authours then see the same comics every week. Not to say I don't like the regs, I just think that they don't need to be in every week, esp. when some times the reg. comics are pretty rubbish.

I'm unsure about this. When you think about it people on the NTWF used to send their stuff in by email and so they had an unfair advantage. Not all of us did. I myself refused to use e-mail for that reason. That's the way it worked before. No, they don't need to be in every single week if they don't deserve publication. But they do deserve an equal chance. New comics can be "pretty rubbish" as well. In honesty, some of the things that managed to get published just... >_< EDIT: Note: I have been instructed to try to allow more submissions from new writers, rather than those who have already been in dozens of times. If you are one of the people who have been accepted a lot in the past, just keep this in mind. (This does not mean you won't be accepted anymore, but rather don't expect all your submissions to be accepted every single week). I know in some ways this may seem to be unfair to some, but in another way it makes getting into the NT fairer for others since space in the NT is limited. Thanks.

Please, equal chance. Some RC comics have been awful but they still got in simply because it was a regular comic.

What really dismays me about this news is the amount of people complaining about not making ten-isue published streraks any more. Publishing streaks shouldn't matter. I can understand people having problems with new stuff being favored over old stuff just for being new, but the former reason just... grr. Quality, not quantity, my friends. -_-;; Please, equal chance. Some RC comics have been awful but they still got in simply because it was a regular comic. In the same issue there's always a worse one. And I have the right to say that. My comics have been published, of all things. Stoney, I really really really hope you're not taking offense at this. I'm trying to defend you here. ^^;;

I've said it before, and I'll say it again I guess.
It really makes me mad when I get a reejction notice saying that I didn't get in because their were too many good entries already.
While, that alone is fair enough, if there's too many, there's too many. But then when I go to see the times, and X regulars were published muliple times that issue, and I didn't, then I get mad. If you're in once that issue, all the rest should be held over so other people get a shot. Cause it'll get in, just not that week. And it's a big problem, because loads of people get nothing better of a rejection notice than, "It was good, but we had too many". Which means it could have gotten in if their was space. But there's not, and the most major reason to me is seeing people get published like 5 times in an issue *cough150cough*.
That way, we get to see more new writers, and the old ones don't get totally kicked off. Once per issue is plenty. Some of us are glad to get one in every 10 issues.
I really don't mean to put down those master's that take several hours just writing to the NT, you guys put in loads of effort. But it's still kinda hurts to see so many regulars published multiple times an issue, while the rest of us get rejected being told there wasn't enough space.
I've gotten in a couple of times, and I'm glad to see my username there a few times. I'd love to share that experiance with some new writers.

I think everyone deserves a chance to get in, based upon the merits of their works.
Before Stone even got published the first time, there were people like Shidi, Karma, Oddhatter, Al, and Scriptfox that seemed to dominate the NT. All of those are pretty much gone (except the occasional offering by Al). Kiddo and Linny bridged the first wave of superstars to the next set. Then we had Stone, TK, Simsman, Mera. The next wave of superstars? GMOD, Tennisblondie, Wolf, Siruss, the list goes on.
No, I didn't mention everyone, there are so many, but name someone that is still writing, aside from Kiddo since the EARLY days.
What if Stone never got his first chance? This same argument was made by Beau_lis a year ago. She said that she didn't think there should be more than one entry, per issue, per member. And we had a HUGE war over it. Yet the NT published her THREE times in one issue. She wasn't happy about that because she didn't want that.
Since that war, she rarely writes at all. The effects of all the bickering and fallout killed that spark, although I exhort her to write all the time...
The earlier group of stars were Josh's (Mr. Shankly's)favorites. They thrived when he was the editor of the NT. After he left, they drifted off.
Now the membership is mostly those that have flowered and have grown under the editorship of Felicia (Snowflake).
What would happen were Felicia to leave suddenly? Would we have another mass of people who will quit? Will the people here raise pitchforks against her replacement? I remember how everyone was when Josh quit. They hated Feli and were quick to judge. Now see how that has changed...
Anyway, I stray and ramble from the topic at hand.
Josh had to work within the framework of what Neopets wanted. Felicia has the same bosses, anrd they have dictated their terms. She has to find a way to fulfill that. But she also wants to try and make all of US happy as well.
We need to support Felicia, in turn, by not tinkling and groaning at her for the policies. It isn't her fault, and I know it tears her up inside when she has to do something she doesn't like.
We also need to give the new people a chance as well. Invite them here, make them welcome. Be happy for them because they DID manages, out of thousands of entries, to get into the NT. Who knows, that funny-looking comic you see this week just might be the next Dr_Death or Shoyru Squadron, and that writer who's story needed a touch of polishing just might be the next Al or Kiddo. Everyone has to start someplace.
I think that's all I can say for now.

I mentioned that I might have missed some... Gimme a break, it was late at night and I was tired. ;D But I hope people got my point. Hey, I was just answering your challenge. To me, Kiddo's a young whippersnapper (and I'm an old coot sitting in my rocking chair in the corner, grumbling about the old days). Anyway, I don't really want to get into this argument any more. I will point out though that this new policy does not say that people can't get more than one thing published in a single issue. It will probably mean that, but that's not the whole of it-- if it was, it would actually affect very few people. Instead, it affects everyone who has a fair number of trophies, regardless of whether those trophies come from being published three times in every issue over a short period of time or from being published once a month over a long one. All in all, I'd just like to see us stop making assumptions about and judging and accusing each other over this stupid thing. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion on the matter, and everyone else is entitled to agree or disagree respectfully. None of us are entitled to accuse or tell each other what our motives are for our feelings or make generalizations or any of that other crud. So like I said on the other thread, I think that we've reached our limit on this discussion and I'd really prefer to just sit back and see what really happens at this point, but I had to say this because if the discussion is going to continue, I don't want to hear any more stuff about anyone being selfish egotists who care nothing about new writers or n00bs who just want avatars and can only use chatspeak. I think we all know those extremes are not true of anyone here, at least, yet we can see that everyone has a different opinion on the matter, so let's not be silly and stereotype everyone who has a certain opinion in either way (or in any other). Concentrate on the issue, not the people on the other side of it.

Thanks Tdyans, I was about to revert to my old habit of hiding under my desk. I'm happy with my whippersnapperness. Personally, my prediction is the days of having a short story and comic in, etc, are over. Which isn't that big of a deal. We'll live.

The new author policy in the NT...I have mixed views on it.
I think it's great, but I also think it's horrible. It's great because it gives me and my friends a better chance to get in the NT, but it's also horrible because great authors, such as Stoneman3x, are being shoved away by these new authors. I hardly ever see my favorite authors now, and I now see names I've never seen in the NT. The NT should have it so there are old authors and new ones in each issue, so it will be enjoyable for everyone.
I highly doubt if the staff wanted something like this to happen...And I'm sure if we bring this matter to their attention they'll change things back to the way the NT once was.
Though there are some hilarious new comics, none can compare to Really Confused. The NT just isn't as enjoyable now that they changed it around.
