I remember my bio teachers theory of chrushes from last year. According to him the reason we form crushes on otherpeople depending on their personal traits. This is pretty ocvious already but it's a little more complicated than that.
Seeing the humans a still creatures of habit it is our nature to 'mate'. We get crushes on people we see good traits that we'd want to see in our young. that's why we tend to go for people who are generally better looking because that tells us they are healthy and well groomed.
I guess this makes sense to me. I never thought that deep in bioc lass...

Pheromones also have something to do with it.

I also heard that girls tend to go for guys who smell like their dads, and guys go for girls who remind them of their moms.

Yeah and according to Sigmund Freud...
never mind, I won't go there.
A lot of this is mostly theory based off of things such as evolution (other theories include we don't have free will, it's but an illusion) and psychology...another profession which bases a lot of their findings off of evolutionary theory.
In other words, I don't put much stock in it.

Hey, I'm just saying what I read, dude! She's right. She's saying a dumbed down version of what Freud said. Hehe. In my opinion Freud was a man of many problems that does not apply to everyone else. WE DO NOT ALL HAVE OEDIPIDUS COMPLEXES. *shudder*

Any of it could be true. It all makes sense. We're all such animals.

I also heard that girls tend to go for guys who smell like their dads, and guys go for girls who remind them of their moms. I disagree with you there. I would never get a crush on a boy if he smelled like my dad. No offence to my dad or anything but he tends to smell nasty because of the work he does. He gets sweaty a lot and it's just the kind of smell I associate with him now. And for girls, well, I definitely don't go by smells. If a girl is wearing nice perfume then it's nice, but generally, I just go by looks and personality for both boys and girls.

Like, if you're mother is really smart and outgoing, you're more likely to be attracted to someone smart and outgoing. If you're mother is silent and shy, then you're more likely to be attracted to someone silent and shy. I would guess it has something to do with you're mother (or for the girls, father) being the first real woman (or man) you knew, since they're probably the ones you spent the most time with as a child. I guess that since, for me, my mother was the first woman I ever knew, she would be, subconsciously, my idea of how a woman "should be" - of the "perfect woman". Ummm.... or something like that. I don't really know a lot about it - I'm just kind of forming my own theories based on... well, nothing, really. Man, I wish I could explain it better....

I mean, I don't think I could ever consider my mother ugly, because subconciously a mother is always beautiful to her children.
