OK, people, listen up.
Not everyone knows the intricate workings of the NT. The majority of the people who read the NT don't know about the NTWF and how we interract with the staff and shape the paper. The Tale of the White Weewoo, along with Chet Flash, Lucky Green Boots, et al., are INSIDE JOKES we share among ourselves.
They are not a universal constant.
To ridicule someone for not knowing our inside jokes is WRONG.
And while I am on this subject, let me say this:
While it is fun sometimes to share some of the Neomail we receive, realize that some of those people are just young kids, who look up to us as idols. Try to be cordial to them. Hatemail may be fair game, but remember that everyone was a newbie at some point.
And I am sure all of us had someone we wrote a fan letter to at some time. And that letter may not have been the most eloquent or sophisticated we have written.
How would you feel if the person you wrote to decided to show that letter to others? Not very good, right?
Look, I have been hearing talk about the NTWF becoming some kind of elitist organization. And this bothers me.
The NTWF is for EVERYONE. There are many people here that have never been in the NT, and some who weren't until coming here, thanks to the people helping each other out.
That is really what the NTWF is all about. A place for the authors, artists, and fans to get together and share each other's company, work tegether to make the NT a better online paper, and to have FUN. We don't exclude ANYONE, as long as they adhere to the few rules I have set forth.
What I would HATE to see is a new member coming by and seeing that a fan letter they wrote was posted all over for people to laugh at. Or their very first entry in the NT being shredded by a callous review. (This actually happened a few times, and the new member immediately quit, after telling me how little they thought about the NTWF as a whole).
Now I am not about to impose Neopet-like standards here. Part of the reason the NTWF was formed was to get away from that kind of censorship.
But I ask people to PLEASE think a little before posting some of the "n00b" neomail they get. Or airing private PM's, or other things that are naturally expected to be private. Airing hatemail is fair game, in my judgement, though.
I was asked to make this a mass PM, but we have over 1500 members, and mass PM's are really for extreme cases.
I want to be proud of the NTWF. I AM proud of the NTWF. I also want us to have a reputation for being welcoming, open, and friendly to everyone who comes here.
I guess that is all I have to say.
