How did they show that it was Allah? Muslims have never really made any pictures or anything of Allah, because they believe that no artist could do justice to him. Some of the more extreme branches also forbid drawing pictures of any humans or animals, because they are His creations and also impossible to do justice to. But that's beside the point. Was he, like, wearing a T-shirt that said "Allah" or something? Why am I bothering saying ANY of this? Why is my mom even inserting world religions into my curriculum? The kids at public schools don't get it: they aren't allowed to! Hmm, okay, I'm rambling so I guess I'll just shut up now. Yeah, it said "ALLAH" on his turban, and it kind of gave it away...

*makes a face* I heard on the news, although I didn't watch the whole story, that they were going to start taping the battles and playing them on television, because the American public 'deserves to be able to watch' or something. Maybe I'm just odd, but I think that's kinda rather sick...
I'm prob'ly mistaken, of course. Or at least I hope so...

At the first battle (now, this is REALLY sick), a bunch of ladies and gentlemen and even CHILDREN went out and *gags* had a PICNIC on a hill just far enough away that they wouldn't be hit, but close enough that they would be able to see the action. A PICNIC. Ladies and gentlemen and children at a PICNIC, watching people shoot eachother to bits with blood flying, heads rolling, limbs falling off. . . *shudders* Just goes to show you how messed up the world is.

The Romans had a phrase for it: "Bread and Circuses".
They used to invite the population to arenas, where the people could watch gladiators fight each other to the death, and people being fed to starved lions.
They did it to distract people from the sad state of affairs the Roman Empire was declining into in that time.
And everyone knows what DID happen to the Roman Empire.
Guess what? Except for televising the war to anyone who wants to see it, this isn't very different, now is it?

Well, if they do end up televising th war (heaven forbid...) then I just won't watch it. I'm pretty sure that the majority of America would do the same. If they wanted to see all the blood and guts and gore, they would joined the army themsleves...
But having a PICNIC to watch a war is just plain old WRONG.
And yes, roman gladiators and all that other sick stuff is just uncivilized...it doesn't matter what the state of the affairs are, be atleast half-way human for once in your life! I don't care if it was thousands of years ago! ARGH!

Americans (of whom I am one) started the war--shouldn't we have to see the consequences of our and our leaders' actions? If we don't go and see it firsthand, shouldn't we at least do this much and witness it from afar? I dunno--it's probably completely stupid and doesn't make sense in the least, but... Then again, it'll probably just be the battles we win and other propaganda-ish stuff--and if lots of people watch it, the TV stations get the wrong idea. But watching for entertainment is just *sick*.

I wouldn't do that, Mushroom. Like you said: it's the leaders' actions, not yours. No need to punish yourself. Edit: Mom said that during the Gulf War there was a news chanel that showed interviews from the front lines and such 24 hours a day. They also showed some pictures of bombs and such heading for their targets, but no people, no actual fighting, and no blood and gore. My mom thinks that is probably what the news was talking about. It's a far cry from watching soldiers shoot eachother to pieces while sitting on a checkered table cloth and munching on egg salad and sipping lemonade.

Yes, but isn't democracy government by the people? So everyone is responsible--maybe the leaders are the ones who've done all this, but the people gave them the power to do so. Maybe the average American didn't *mean* to put people in office who were going to start a war, but we still did. And if it is just pictures of bombs and interviews and the like--no, I probably won't watch then. I probably misunderstood what I heard. I've been known to do that rather frequently...

That's why it's sick--because it was merely entertainment. Not all reality shows are perverted, though--there are one or two that I don't dislike. (Fear Factor is interesting--if it was me, could I finish? Could I complete the stunts? The dating ones are all horrible, though.)

Mushroom, please remember back in the roman empire that was ENTERTAINMENT to them. Just like those sick perverted reality series are to us today. Well, they were even more sick! Even if we watch for entertainment, the people are fighting for our country. But back then, it was ALL for entertainment! The reason why innocent people died was for entertainment! They built colloseums and such just for ENTERTAINMENT! Boy, it makes me glad to live in present-day America...

Of course, there were also political prisoners there. . . *shuts up and tries to stop thinking about it*
