I've been home sick too - the last Tuesday before Winter Break I was home sick with bronchitis (which turns out to be pertuasis - aka whopping cough).
Yesterday, the first day after school break, I also stayed home "sick". Want to know the reality? I stayed up to 3:00 am working on homework i shoudl have done over the break. I had JUST FINISHED and then my mom comes and worries that I'll collapse or something at school because of lack of sleep *and* being sick, in spite of the fact that exhaustion is *not* one of my symptoms - lack of sleep isn't helping, but I think I was capable of going to school (I think she was being a mom - worrying too much).
Yesterday was hell. My mom was breathing down my throat that I wasn't allowed to do anything except homework or eating or drinking - she didn't believe that I had actually finished my homework, and I stuffed my stomach so much I'm surprised I didn't vomit (which was a symtom two weeks ago). Eventually she left the house and I got online.
At middle school I think I had a perfect attendence record, so it was a blow to my pride to have to take a *full* day off for once. If my record hadn't been blemished already, I would have probably gone to school yesterday wheather my mom liked it or not (even if it required an hour of argument - which would have definitely been worse for my health than missing three hours of sleep one night)
