I've recently gotten my 11-year-old sister involved in Neopets and she has fallen deeply in love with it and been a loyal player for almost four months. She's liked it so much in fact, she's gotten some of her school friends involved in it.
One of these friends, Jessica, is the queen of conniving. Ironically, it is this one that my sister has chosen as her best friend. My sister IM's me now and then, sounding upset because Jessica has demanded neopoints/items from her and left her unable to save up for something she was targeting.
Jessica introduced herself to me over neomail one day asking if we could be neofriends. At the time, I didn't know what she was like and told her sure and added her to my list. A couple days later she mails me all excited saying that she found a ghost paint brush on the floor and, since I was saving to paint Bloodcloak ghost at the time, she wanted to know if I wanted it. I told her I'd love it, but couldn't afford to buy it from her just yet. She said "That's okay, I'll give it to you." and then went through all these theatrics saying that Jacko had reappeared and stolen it back from her and that she was crying because she couldn't give it to me. When I told her I didn't believe her, she burst out laughing about how she had me going for awhile... Yes....ha ha, Jessica, you're a scream.
That kind of left a bad taste in my mouth.....not enough to hate her (I mean, it WAS dumb of me to think I'd get a ghost paint brush for free from someone) but just to pull a trick like that was kind of mean-spirited.
Anyhow, recently, my sister decided that one of her greatest desires was to own a draik and began to save for a potion. This fact was not lost on Jessica who immediately faked having her account hacked and whined so much about it on the chat boards that someone gave her a fire draik morphing potion (darn I wish I had that sort of begging prowess...).
After rubbing my sister's nose in it thoroughly that she had a potion and Miranda didn't, she offered to sell it to her......for 400k. Miranda, of course, said no and told her that they were only worth about 170k. To spite her, Jessica sold it to someone else (For LESS THAN 170k).
My sister, understandably, was upset by this and began to look for her potion elsewhere. Jessica neomailed me shortly afterward, trying to appear pathetic and saying that she was hacked recently and if I could loan her 50k so she could buy food for her pets, she'd really appreciate it. (this is after I had already spoken to Miranda who informed me 50k was the magical number Jessica needed to be able to afford a baby paint brush for one of her pets).
I wrote back saying that I not only didn't appreciate being lied to, but that I didn't think what she had done to Miranda was very nice. She wrote back blowing it off saying that she was sure she'd eventually get a draik potion from the Snow Faerie and Miranda could have that one.
This morning my sister IM's me in tears because Jessica had gotten her hopes up by saying she'd found someone who would sell her a purple draik potion for 105k, which my sister could actually afford to spend. When Miranda asked her where this person was, Jessica laughed at her and told her there *was* no person.
As much as my sister gets on my nerves sometimes, I think even the most jaded of older siblings gets irked when someone's continually screwing with their little brother or sister. I'd had enough of the teasing. I ran a search on the auctions, found a purple draik potion ending in five minutes and slapped a bid on it. When the auction ended successfully, I sent the potion to my sister with a note reading "Happy early birthday".
My sister was overjoyed and created xx__neo__xx (lovely and creative...*gags* but at least she's happy). Within minutes, I get a neomail from Hurricane Jess demanding to know why I'd given Miranda a potion. I explained that I was tired of watching my sister being manipulated and then lied and said Miranda had agreed to pay me back for it later.
The begging then commensed.
"Do you have any krawk petpets or krawk potions? I saw your draik has a krawk petpet, can I have it plz? A krawk is what I want more than anything and I know you're my friend and you will help me"
I wrote back telling her to save up and get it herself. There was a ten minute pause and then she wrote "OMG! Someone said they'd sell me a krawk potion for 90k!" I said "Great. Something to aspire for. Better get saving."
Miranda then IM's me a minute later and says "what are you and Jess talking about? She just sent me this message: 'I dun feel like smiling because ur stupid sister won't hack up 90k for me to have a stupid krawk!!!!!!' "

I'm really sorry to hear that, Karma. I only hope your sister can get out of this mess and discover who her friends are for herself before things get any worse.
