My so-called 'best friend' just imed me saying, "Have you read the article that made fun of you yet?" I'd consider that as my first flame. -death glare- I mean, god, epk wasn't making fun of me! He was stating his opinion. Apparently she thinks ha! Teghan's being made fun of, what a loser! -even deathyer death glare- Feh, it's obvious she's just jealous though, because she hasn't gotten a single thing into the NT. Mmmph... -even deathyer of a death glare than the even deathyer glare- ;;

Epk never said anything mean, he was simply comparing opinions.
Although I agree with you, the BC is an advertising/popularity contest. I've entered before, and know how annoying it is to campaign.

I hate the BC. I've entered thousands of times, yet I have never won. Once. In fact, Mordegan is entered this week. Here's the picture: Of course, it doesn't matter that I spent two hours on it, becuase Dragonsheir, Xrakeo and the other BC lords always win. Makes me kind of mad...

Sounds like Epk is trying to make fun of the authors ... not! Probably Epk's basic mistake was mentioning the other articles at all and quoting from them. I will make a quote from Yasashiiyukiko's wonderful artical on rebuttals - I think Epk has some good points, and I think you (Teghan) had good points, and I don't think anyone had any cruel intentions, but Epk probably should have followed yasashiiyukiko's advice to avoid being suspected of mockery. To read the whole article, go to www.neopets.com/newnt/index.phtml?section=8228&week=66

Well, we all make mistakes. That's cause we're human. Last time I checked, humans made mistakes. So I'm not blaming epk or anything. I'm blaming my "best friend."
-points to siggy- Is that true or what? ;D
Edit: See? I just fixed some typos.

That didn't sound like it was necessarily a hate-mail. It could have been more along the lines of "Take a look at THIS! Who does this person think he is?" type of thing.
Tones of voice are easily misjudged on the internet. For example, just the other day I saw a wish-list-less icy battle duck in the trades and I neomailed the owner asking his price. It turned out to be MUCH more than what I could pay, so I said. "LoL. Oops, nvm." He replied "You can just say no. You don't have to be RUDE about it." and blocked me. Obviously, what I had said came across completely wrong.

She hasn't been talking to me at school at all since I got my article in, and she's been trying for a while to get a comic in, and it hasn't gotten in yet. I think it's because she's jealous. Either that, or, epk typed something that she either a) didn't read or b) got the wrong meaning out of it

One of my main concerns was offending either author. I pretty much died when teghan posted here after I sent in the article. (Note I didn't say a single bad thing about here leading up to the article.) The main reason I rebucked direct quotes was because I felt it would make a more convincing case. I've also learned that the less I say is better, so I'll zip it for now.

My only problem with epk's article is that it felt like I was reading "Your Foot Ain't That Pretty"(65) all over again...

This is one of the reasons I completely avoid writing rebuttal articles. In my opinion, which is probably flawed... (1) it can only create a feeling that you are somehow "picking" on someone else whether you mean to or not, (2) it IS possible to disagree with someone and not feel compelled to broadcast it to the world, and (3) it seems like you're flogging a subject. I like to move on to fresher, green pastures and not dwell on things already written about. Like I said, this is just how I personally feel about WRITING rebuttal articles. I have READ some that were very good, but personally I'd rather not write them.
