Well, I like the smiley reviews. I'd much rather have a frowning face next to my piece of trash article rather than a huge F staring in the face.
Heck, I got a Cheesy Smile and a 4-Grin on HTR 2, much more than it deserves of course, but good nonetheless.

I always thought of the grading system as too formal. I like the smiley system; anyone's free to use it if they want. That was from that board. Nothing more was said on the subject, so I assumed it would be alright. That system, though, could be thought to be comparing one to another in one way, but all it does for me is just express how I feel about that particular article alone.

I thought that the grades were going to go, but not the smilies. That's why I switched from grades to smilies. It's the same, what you're doing with smilies is just grading them 1-5. It does matter. People will be sad/upset if their piece in which they worked hard gets a C- just because it wasn't the type of things the reviewer likes or they didn't understand a part of it. Just tell what you liked, what wasn't so good and how it could be improved. It would be *much* better that way as no one would feel left out and constructive criticism would be at its max. At least IMO, feel free to disagree.

What I said in my last post was regarding the out of 5 system. As for the otehr faces, well, I don't really know, I would take it off, but, again, that's just my opinion.

It's the same, what you're doing with smilies is just grading them 1-5. Not how I see it. I pick different smilies according to how I feel; it's not grading them. If an article makes me angry, for instance, I'll use the smiley. If I didn't really like it or if it was OK, I'd use a smiley. If made me laugh or really, really helped me, I'd give it a ;D smiley. If I liked it, it would be given a , and if I really liked it, it would be given a . If I didn't understand, I would probably put a , etc. I think you get the point. As you can see, most of those aren't really "grading" and is more like telling people how you felt while reading it rather than having the equivalent to an F or something like that. At least, that's how I see it.

OK, I understand. I'll use that from now on.
And let's use constructive critisism, not mean remarks.

A Modest Proposal by erika_idle - Sorry, I didn't comprehend this writing, so I can't rate it. I skimmed it, but I didn't know what he meant by eating Neopets. It's okay that you didn't get it... not very many people did. It's like Jonathon Swift's essay, where he wants to solve famine in Ireland by eating all newborns. Ask Oddhater. (P.S. I am a girl. )

Yay!!! That makes 3! ::jots down sol_luna_estrella on list of literate people:: Hey, that was kind of rude. You're saying that everyone who didn't get your article is illiterate? I never read what Jonathan Swift wrote, or ever heard about him for that matter, but I did get that your article was obviously a joke. Does that make me illiterate? Or anyone else who didn't get the joke?

And I have the lower hand on authors - I haven't ever seen any book by him where I live - and I go to bookstores a lot where I live (Japan).

Come on, let's not get hasty people. We do have to keep SOME sanity. If you want to duke it out, the insanity board is the proper place!

I didn't mean to sound like I thought you were illiterate. I'm just happy that a few people understood the joke, and I got some mean replys to my article from dumb flamers... Anyways, I'm sorry if I insulted you, hippiesoul. I'm sure you're more literate than I am.. really. The most challenging book I have read was Harry Potter.
