Hi! My name is Nika. I've been on Neo for close to 16 years now but pretty much left the site completely in 2009. Since about 2014, I've been coming back little by little and am now pretty much a daily Neo user again. I've written one story for the NT years ago that got accepted but it's really bad and I'm sorry that THAT'S what is linked to, as my poetry submissions have all been much better. I've been accepted 11x and hope to get my next one accepted, as well. I would really like to get into writing for the NT more as plot development is one of the weakest points of my writing, and I think writing prose for the NT would help me with that. Normally, I'm not even that interested in plot creation with many of my stories having no discernable plots. I also tend to prefer books and movies that don't really have clear plots, either. In regards to that, among my favorite books include: House of Leaves and The Picture of Dorian Gray, and my favorite movies in regards to that include: The Machinist and A Tale of Two Sisters. Despite not finding plot important, I have never liked Mullholand Drive or Donnie Darko, but that just may be because despite being pretentious at times I'm not that pretentious. No offense of course to those who do like those movies as our styles and tastes are our own. I also know that many people would call me pretentious for loving House of Leaves. It really is about what you personally get from the artwork.
I digress. Another weak point of mine - if you haven't noticed yet - is that I'm long-winded. I have a lot to say and I do try to keep things progressing as I write, but part of my hard-learned set survival skills has been to be extremely specific and detailed in my language to deter miscommunication. This is often reflected in my writing, as well. I am not JRR Tolkien or Victor Hugo, but sometimes I don't doubt that I could take up 40 pages in describing the symbolism behind someone's outfit alone. (This is in reference to things I have heard about The Hunchback of Notre Dame, in which Hugo fills 40 pages with Frollo's robes.) I've never read books by Hugo, but I did read LOTR and while I'm mesmerized by Tokien's imaginative genius, he was super long-winded.
So my weakest point are brevity and plot development and while those are definitely not all, those are my absolute worst, and I'm pretty sure hopeful that writing for Neo again can help with this.
Thanks for reading, everyone! I am clearly not brief so I appreciate it when people listen to or read what I have to say.
