I'm sure that my diligent thread-creation streak has nothing to do with the fact that I'm getting published again, nosireebob. Issue 827They both settle comfortably back into their work, quietly listening to the soft blue music. It seems to cool the room, providing a simple rhythm to their movements.~brilliantgrey ArticlesNone Short StoriesFyora's Regrets by Rabbit ♠ ComicsDistraction by Huntress SeriesTWELVE Tips to Help You Succeed in Life:Part Ten by downrightdude And the Editorial, which... right, so, since I'm a bit of a sucker for trainwrecks, I beelined to Board 7 when I saw this editorial and sure 'nuff, there's a currently 13-page-long thread discussing the really rather dubious quality of recent Jade-run editorials. There's one question out of five that can be called a pertinent question and even that one received a half-answer. Starting to wonder if linking to the editorials in the issue discussion thread is still prudent xP --- I'm starting to notice a pattern in Quote of the Week: they keep selecting a line that's all airily poetic and mood-setting. Makes me wonder if that's just the kind of style the editor likes or if they think that that's what QotW are supposed to be like. I know they were once a much more mixed bag. ...Hang on, where is that header image even from? I picked it off the News cos I always figured that the image they use to advertise the NT in the news is something that's also featured in the NT itself, but it doesn't look like it's actually used anywhere in the issue. Man, Hoban, did you get lost again? Also, I have a comic in this week's issue, because sometimes the jokes write themselves. As usual, if I missed you, poke me with something sharp and I'll add your username to my mental rolodex.

And the Editorial, which... right, so, since I'm a bit of a sucker for trainwrecks, I beelined to Board 7 when I saw this editorial and sure 'nuff, there's a currently 13-page-long thread discussing the really rather dubious quality of recent Jade-run editorials. There's one question out of five that can be called a pertinent question and even that one received a half-answer. Starting to wonder if linking to the editorials in the issue discussion thread is still prudent xP Due to my similar habit of watching trainwrecks, I also checked out that thread and whoof. The editorial isn't something I consistently keep tabs on, but I've also kinda been noticing the dip in quality lately, mostly with the writing style, and this week's was a prime example of that. Even disregarding the questions chosen, it can just be rather hard to read, seeing as punctuation and capitalization are disregarded half the time. I don't know if this is intentional or not, but it just leaves my mind boggled because of all places, the NT should not be the place for that xD I'm mostly just curious about the story of why more than anything at this point. But yeah, if this kind of question choosing keeps happening, it does indeed have one question the point of linking x3; Of course, there aren't really any hard rules with these threads, so linking editorials could be entirely circumstantial or up to whoever makes the thread at the time. It could be possible that that's the style they chose; I've noticed some shifts with QotW, probably due to how frequently editors are changing right now. Like, with CQ, I remember she was often a fan of paragraph-long quotes, probably to serve more as a story preview than just a simple quote for the whole issue. I don't recall what trend Scrappy usually did, though, so not sure what Jade has learned from her and what she may have decided herself. That's... a good question x3 think we can submit it for the Editorial next week? Just checked myself and yeah, didn't find it with any of this week's entries. Looking at the news blurb that uses the image, my best guess is that it relates to this little bit they say: But other than that I'm not entirely sure.

I get the impression that Jade treats the editorial as Her Chance to Shine (hence why one of the questions she chose this week was about the Kelly Clarkson lyrics she got wrong last week.) Which could be used as a chance to build some rapport with the userbase and establish a human face for the staff, if it was done better. And at the same time, the editorial has always been the one venue for people to actually ask the staff questions and get issues clarified, so of course they won't be best pleased if that venue gets taken away in favor of rofflewaffle. (not to mention let's be fair, we all wrote like this circa 2006 and would much prefer to forget that era, so Jade reminding us of that makes people uncomfortable on a personal level xP) Word has it that Scrappy is away for a few weeks, which implies that the Jade-editorials aren't here to stay, but they've had sneaky permanent staff changes before. But if these editorials continue then there'll probably be a revolution. Well, I did just submit an editorial question about the comic width limit, because it's still said to be 470 pixels but you get pagestretchy comics in nearly every issue. Mebbe if people submit more pertinent questions more often, the lololol-cookies type of questions will look less pickable? xD There was this nice image with the Weewoo that was used in the news for the NT for a long time, I could probably dig that up again. Although the varying images in the news are also pretty nice, they set the issue threads apart a little.

I got it for the first time sometime a few weeks ago and thought it to be highly suspicious, hence this comic.

Huntress Heh, my first thought upon seeing that many-tentacled monster was that it was a Blarf, despite the colors being off xD And lol yeah that RE is hilarious xD I was gonna say it reminds me of thsoe 1950's deals of getting some free appliance or utility with some other service, but after a quick search, it looks like US banks actually did give away free toasters, among other appliances xD Not for account errors, I don't think, but as a reward for things like opening a checking account with them. Also went ahead and gave your short story a read, Rabbit ♠! Once again, A+ choice of avatar, 10/10 fits the tone of the story perfect
But with the actual story, I think this kind of idea makes sense to explore in light of the recent plot. There are indeed some parallels in Fyora being mistaken by the motivations of a pupil under her, and both times led to the threat of her kingdom and Neopia as a whole.
I fell waaay out of the plot loop a while ago, including the story aspect of it, so I've only gleaned the main pieces of the plot from others talking about it. I'm left wondering then how many of the events in this story were direct references to plot itself. Fyora getting attacked in the woods I know happened, but the main thing I keep coming back to is her setting fire to her library. Like, did that actually happen?? Because Fyora, that's like... not a solution xD; I hope she didn't actually burn any of her books away, I can imagine all the history kept in that library...
Some of the descriptions had me wanting a bit more in terms of showing, namely Fyora's recounting of Kaia's reveal in the woods. Since this is a very character focused piece, it'd have been real juicy to really see and feel the trauma Fyora must've gone through with that betrayal. Really let the character take a hold of the story's lens and go with it!
I sort of got the impression that Baelia was an implied pupil of Fyora's as well, sort of the success story as a foil to Xandra and Kaia? At least, it gave Fyora something more of a positive relationship with someone underneath her, as she's the one giving Baelia guidance on how to run the Hidden Tower. Interesting that even with that, though, she messed up with the pricing. Makes me wonder if Baelia is indeed supposed to be sort of that shining light amidst Fyora's troubled thoughts, or instead a potential other disaster waiting to happen.

Huntress - Sorry this is late, I told myself all week last week that I would review your comic, and I procrastinated on it so much that now I have TWO to write! XD;; but anyway... ahh, isn't it great when jokes write themselves? XD This feels like the perfect RE to illustrate, and I think you nailed the expressions; from the Skeith's nervousness to Saura's skepticism and Shad's o.o face, they're all great! The background is really fun to look at, there's so much going on there! I mean, nothing, nothing strange happening at all! >_> I really enjoyed this comic. XD

XD Yeah, this new extra-speedy response process does have its downsides xD REs are also good quick comic material because they make for good one-panel shots since the RE itself is already the setup. 'nyway, thank you! ^^ Twillie - aw heck, I should've thought of making it a blarf reference. As it is, I picked the colors from the krawken in the Anchor Management daily, although it could just as well be some eldritch cellar-dwelling abomination. Who knows? And that is an interesting tidbit about bank-mandated toasters, particularly as this seems to be a new RE and can't be considered an outdated reference. The more you know. (My bank won't even hand out free pens >__>)
