I want to participate in NaNo this year because there's this Neopets story I want to write for the Neopian Times. I've been meaning to write it for a long time and I think that NaNo would be a great way to get me started on it. My goal isn't necessarily to have the story completely written and ready to submit to the NT by the end of November; rather my goal is to be able to write a good first draft of the story. I don't know if I'll be able to reach the 50,000 word goal but I can try to write as much as possible.
I'm not entirely sure how NaNo works; all I know is that you have a goal to write 50,000 words in November and that what you write doesn't have to be perfect. I do hope that I can participate in NaNo this way; by writing a first draft of a Neopets story. Can anyone verify if this is ok?
Anyway, for those of you who haven't heard about it yet, my story is called The Treasures of Corundum Island, an adventure story about family and friendship. The synopsis is as follows:
Eon is an orphan who only remaining family is his younger brother, Eevee. They have been apart for several years due to Eon's military education but when Eon comes of age, he decides to forgo further training to reunite with his sibling.
Eevee has been under the care of a retired adventurer named Cessilli and grew up on stories of adventure and treasure. Because of his desire for an adventure of his own, Cessilli decides to take Eevee on a trip to a gemstone-mining colony on Corundum Island.
Zaffre is the head of the gemstone-mining operation on Corundum Island whose wife died a few years ago during a plague. His greatest treasure is his daughter Zapphire who has no friend her age to play with. Zaffre will do anything to get a friend for her and when Eevee visits the island, he just has to get him to stay.
Zapphire needs a friend and when Eevee shows up her whole world becomes a lot brighter. However, when Eon comes and tries to bring Eevee back home with him, Zapphire fears that she will soon lose her new friend.
